She is an Earth goddess and a dwarf planet in her own right, but her myth also relates to the Sun cycle. Many cultures considered the sun feminine and the moon masculine. In patriarchal society, it is more often seen that the Sun is masculine and the Moon feminine.
The myth of Ceres and Proserpina shows this feminine power being "abducted" by the masculine and brought to the underworld.
This myth not only shows cycles of the seasons on earth, but the cycle of the oppression of the Divine Feminine and the eventual return of this principal.
In a way, I would agree that Ceres could be seen as a "Moon", because in the myth she represents the feminine that is "left behind" to suffer alone on a barren earth while Proserpina goes to the underworld where she gains power, only to return to the earth to bring growth and life. Just as the moon reflects the light of the Sun, I think Ceres reflects our Divine Feminine nature.
I think Ceres placement in the chart can show where the Divine Feminine (whether in a male or female chart) is searching for her power. Jupiter shows where we have allowed that power to be taken away. Pluto shows the shadows we will have to "marry" within ourselves to regain that power. Proserpina shows where that power can be found and where it will mature.
