Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio, 2013
The retrograde period is from October 21st to November 10th. Mercury begins the retrograde at 18 degrees, and dials back to 2 degrees Scorpio.
This is the final Mercury retrograde for 2013 -- again in a water sign, after Pisces and Cancer earlier this year.
Water sign Mercury is an absorbing experience -- it's about feelings, vivid dreams, soul memory and the imagination. Mercury in Scorpio happens across a season of mystery, as it'll be in play through Halloween, also known as Samhain.
Will you revive a part of yourself that was left for dead? Or break the spell of a vaguely zombie state? Perhaps you will unravel a personal mystery or heal from an ancient trauma. Scorpio sight is thorough, so no stone is left unturned -- this unfolds a deep-seated confidence, a kind of psychic stability.
Resurrection
Mercury’s retrograde is about all things “re” – recovery, resurface, restore, research, etc. In Scorpio, the cycle can lead to resolutions of the deepest kind.
A personal mystery can be re-solved, for example, when someone from the past comes back into your real life or dreams. Mercury retrogrades can seem to have more encounters that feel fated. There’s a special meaning, a sense of synchronicity.
Scorpio is a very emotionally charged water sign. Serendipitous encounters could bring up feelings that have been deeply buried. There could even be a touch of danger or threat to the moment, even if only psychically.
Is there an opportunity now, in the retrograde, to face your deepest fears? The result could be a catharsis or breakthrough, as what’s compressed is released.
A soul tracker follows the energy of a binding situation to its roots. An example is a family drama that pulls you in, despite your best intentions. Go deep at this retrograde, to "see" how you're enmeshed with others. With intense dramas, any move you make brings a reaction from those you're psychically entangled with.
Bringing it to awareness, can set the real healing in motion. There can be a time of in-between at the retrograde, and sometimes that means being disturbed. As the 20th President of the U.S. James A. Garfield said, "The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable."
But oh how worth it is the journey, to recover parts of the self that have been shamed into silence. This is also the time to shake off the blinders of denial, as a persistent issue returns or review. The reward is mental knots being released, which means less to fear within your own psyche.
Rendezvous
During the special time of the retrograde, be watchful for meet-ups that feel like a cosmic set-up. It could be someone with whom you've had serious business with in the past.
If it's an old flame, it could be a relationship that was touched by Pluto (Scorpio's ruler). There might've been extreme feelings, obsession, betrayal or unrequited love.
If you believe, as I do, that everything happens to guide our journey toward greater wholeness, this is a chance to say Yes. The intensity of feeling could surprise you, and that hints at more to glean from the experience.
The Rabbit Hole
It’s possible that this retrograde revives a fascination with something that takes deep diving to understand. All retros are good for research, but this one favors investigating what's been covered up, or is wrapped in mystery or disinformation.
The oft-used metaphor of going down the rabbit hole refers to entering the territory of the unfamiliar or strange. It comes from Lewis Carroll's classic, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
It might mean learning more about an event on the world stage, or the power hierarchies in the shadows. Or it could simply be a personal interest, that takes you into the Scorpio zones of the occult, control (mental, physical or sexual), sexuality, conspiracies, power matrices, shamanism death and rebirth.
