I'm watching a documentary on the science channel right now, with the same title as this thread!
This has peeked my curiosity..
Did anything interested happen to you during the Transirt of Venus?

The last transit was on 5–6 June of 2012, close to my birthday!

I am watching the last half of it now. I hope it comes on again in an hour or two. Everything is so far away up there :s

I heard the host mention life in clouds on Venus? Did you see that part?

I cannot wait until they find out if there's big time life on a distant planet. I wish everything weren't so far apart up there! Even when they find this planet, it will, most likely, take 100,000 + years to reach it. Love how they have a machine that can help them figure out what's out there.

I had been waiting for that transit since 2011. I was soo excited because I knew that from my apt I would have been able to see venus on the sun clearly. The sun sets where I'm located.. Right during the hours of 6pm-7pm on june 6 here , the transit was supposed to be visible without needing to burn our retinas to see lol. I woke up early for this. watching the nasa footage onlone. omfg. Unfortunately, right around 6-7pm, the clouds started forming covering the freaking sun! blocking me from seeing Venus . I was soo angry. You have no idea. Perfect view, I live in huge building on the last floor.. i didn't even need a telescope or anything Because the sun is looks pretty big when it sets on my side. I still had some equipment to view the transit though. I was soo ready

A week or so before the transit, I got into this sudden need to paint though. After years of not doing so.. I even got lucky on all the new supplies I got. I got soo many things (of good quality) for soo cheap. Two days before the transit, I did 3 paintings in total in two days. I was in such a great mood during that transit..2 Weeks before, and during the week of the transit.. Too bad i'll never witness this transit again

I was too worried to look, Nahyt, because I thought it would burn my eyeballs but I remember that day, too! What a Libran day it was!

Btw, Kero, I did stay up and watched that show when it reaired. It's amazing how similar earth and Venus were in their histories and just as fascinating that earth is fortunate enough to have an electromagnetic field. Venus and Mars both have trouble with that. It could be the one reason earth is such a life supporting planet. Maybe it is a rare thing for a planet to have? It all depends on what's composes the planet's core, so even a warm planet might not be able to support life unless it has a core made of iron.

I got all excited about that transit and bought special goggles that let you look straight at the sun. What I found was that when the lenses stripped away the glow around the sun, the sun itself was smaller (from our perspective on Earth anyway) than we see. Also without magnification, the transit of Venus was unobservable. Disappointing.

I do believe Mars was once able to sustain life but notice how Venus does not have a moon or tectonic plates.
While Mars does have moons and tectonic activity

Remember that theory that planets with out moon (satellites) can not harbor intelligent life because the energy of that planet is represented by the moon when living on the surface...

It is possible for us to teraform mars, we just have to ems shock it back to life lol.

In order to make Mars more like earth, we would have to figure out a way to generate an electro magnetic field around it. That would be the first step imo.

Hahah! . Dude that was practically a celestial gift for you! You're Venusian, and Venus was in Gemini at that time. Venus was giving you a peep show and you you didn't even notice

I was probably playing outside with my friends too... That's pretty much all I did.
-___-

That's cool it's happened two times in my life time around my birthday..
Must be a blessing!!!

LMFAO
Oh I had my fist kiss when I was 12 beginning of summer vacation.
She was like 3 years older than me and we watched blair witch project lmfao.
It was so weird...

Don't ever look at the sun :s
You will hurt your eyes.

I started sky watching some in the early spring then all the clouds came and ruined the vibe I had
I swear non stop clouds for a month after I decided I would try to become erudite about where everything was in the night sky
It was so unfair.
I even had my diagrams made, I was determined to memorize every major star in every constellation. My hope was to find Algol, I had a hard time with that one, so I went to Orion, Canis major and then to Taurus and Jupiter, Gemini and all the main stars. Orion is my favorite. I love that constellation now! I also discovered how amazing each star looks. Before, they all seemed the same and then I became familiar with the various hues. Now, the first thing I notice when I look at the night sky are which stars are burning red-orange, which ones burn blue-white. I try to imagine the red giants up close.

Probably a month after?
It was really hot so late june, maybe?

You would think having your first kiss around a Venus transit would be magical.

We were friends kinda, well I was friends with everyone... and her mom took us to blockbuster and she wanted to get blair witch...
It was just so weird and I after the kiss we continues watching and... I think said my mom wanted me to come home or something.
I just knew she was the apartment bicycle.... and I did not want a ride..

I was an innocent baby at 12..

Oh, no I don't do solar watching SSS lol. I looked at the sun during sunset a day before the transit. Just to see if it truly wouldn't bother my eyes like NASA claimed. But I only stick to sky watching at night .

Have you ever seen that star rover app from the apple App Store? It's pretty neat. It's supposed to locate the starts etc wherever you point your idevice. I deleted the app too soon because I needed the space ..But I'm going to look into it again now that this thread reminded me of it.... I never got to really use the app-_-

That's the problem I have with apps, Nahyt, they take too much space on my devices, so I don't download too many. I have a star locator but it is very difficult to use.
