I was in another thread about planets in detriment, fall, and their afflictions (thanks cappy ) and MsPrism pointed something out about Sun conjunct Mercury that I hadn't really thought about since finding LL and it's forums: this placement can be a good thing!I've got Sun conjunct Merc with a 1'46" orb. Well within the combustion zone. And while I do associate with things like not being able to let go/over-thinking things, I think I find myself more benefited from this placement than hindered after giving it some thought. My mind is tied to my ego and vice versa, but that's not entirely a bad thing. It means I take pride in my knowledge and that I enjoy being recognized for it. My conjunction in the 9H also means that I like to share my knowledge with other people. Whether it be my philosophies(which I'm full of) or my stories told with such grandeur that people who have listened to/watched me do it once never want to miss another. I want to know from others who have this!! "Combust" is conjunct by less than 3 degrees, I believe. Do you think it's a nuisance or a blessing? And why aren't other planets considered combust when they are near the Sun? I always read how every other planet loans it's qualities to the Sun's personality. Why shouldn't Mercury be the same?

i know that most astrologers follow the theory of combustion.I haven`t seen that to take place, actually I have observed that whatever Sun touches, it infuses it with a lot of energy. The planet becomes very pronounced, sometimes to the point of overdoing it though. The burst of solar energy might make him run amok in some cases. I have Mercury conjunct Sun,t oo. And my response to stimuli usually is one that I start to analyze things, sometimes to the point of overanalyzing. IP: Logged |

I've been accused of over analyzing before. More than once. Be it situations/people/words. Making things more indepth than they need to be while missing sometimes other, possibly more important pieces of the picture. I suppose there is a downside to everything. Especially aspects in a natal chart lol IP: Logged |

Personally I think planets in conjunction with the sun become apart of the sun. They are not individuals, it's more like a parasitic relationship. Mercury leeches on to the sun, it's not nessarily bad for the native. They exude the qualities of that planet more prevalently Also it depends if the combust planets are dignified. Sun conjunct mercury In gemini or virgo will amplify mercury energy into the sun. As for sun conjunct mercury... even vedic astrology ignores sun combust mercury because it's so common. Most people have it! IP: Logged |

I have sun conjunct mercury (3 orb) and I've noticed I prefer ppl with the same aspect. I have it in aqua. Alyssa Sharpe had a video where she said the closer the sun is to mercury, the less filter you have between yourself and your brain and sometimes it means blurting out the things that should've been thought through a little bit more carefully. I use this description and have been able to pick up who has mer combust. I never thought it was a bad aspect at all. To me It just means your mind is quick.

I too prefer ppl with this aspect, my Mercury conjuncts Sun by less than a degree. My Saturn also conjuncts my Sun by less than a degree which makes me very cautious and I think it helps me in controlling the negative effects of Sun conj. Mercury. IP: Logged |

What about Venus conj Sun at less than a degree? I believe I have the sun @9º 40' and venus @9º 51" in scorpio, second house. And for kicks, Mercury @16º 38' scorpio, and Pluto @17º 23' scorpio, 2H. IP: Logged |
