Hi guys, I've been into astrology for years already, but I've started some beginner astrology classes a few months ago, and last class the teacher was talking about house symbolism.

The astrology classes have a big emphasis on reincarnation, so when the teacher started talking about the 8th house, it was focused on the link between this house and reincarnation/karma.

Basically, it was explained that the 8th house is a house of instincts and memories (like other water houses - 4th house as memories of origins/the moment of death in the past life which transited to the family environment in the childhood of present life; 12th house as the memories of the soul), and this house represents trapped/stuck memories of what we could not let go or accept in our past lives. It's a house where we must overcome the desires and attachments, as well as the need of control and power, and the highest level of this house would be the "death" of these traps and eventually raising above the "ashes".

One of the examples that were given was that Venus in the 8th house in the natal chart can represent the death of a love that was not accepted in the past life, and that we have to overcome this in the present life.

As someone with a packed 8th house (Sun/Moon/Mercury/Venus/BML in Aries), in the past years I have read a few descriptions of the 8th house that talked about sex, money, inheritance, power, secrets, deeper intimacy, and so on, but this description from my astrology teacher actually resonates a lot. Without going much into details, personally I do feel that something inside me is not letting go of certain things or have some issues that can cause emotional trap/pain. I don't have psychic skills nor have successfully attempted regression, although once I did try (listening to those youtube regression aid videos lol) and before opening a supposed door to the past life, I've felt an instinctual fear and stopped. Somehow, I feel that I'm not meant to remember my past, as I'm not ready, and doing so might drive me to feel great sadness towards something I've already lost in the past life.
Thought I do feel that I'm reaching a better understanding, as in being able to comprehend what it means to let go and accept things naturally, maybe due to the Eastern Asian cultural influence (and then I have Taurus North Node in the 9th house - curiously, my astrology teacher said that to truly transit to the 9th house and go on, we have to overcome the issues in the 8th house - she also said the following, that resonated a lot: there is no knowledge inside darkness, but beyond it - I feel that way too as I realized how darkness is not meant for us to be stuck in it but to raise above it).

So with this thread, I was wondering if you fellow 8th housers would like to share what you think of this way of seeing the 8th house, and if possible, what's your personal view of 8th house in terms of reincarnation and karma, and share your personal experiences.

I have Sun and Mars there. Always felt like I was an alien and had more going on inside than most people. My whole life is like a second or even third life for me or it feels like it. Strange connections to things I've never seen before, places I've never been. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question.

That is my personal opinion. I view 8th house as something we wouldn't like to do, or something that we wouldn't want to happen. Dirty things for us. Doesn't have to be related to sex or anything like that, but we whatever it is we wouldn't want for them to happen.
But it does happen and somehow you gotta go through that mess.

As for reincarnation and karma, I'd like for things like that to exist, especially reincarnation, but I'm kinda practical and don't think it's real.

there's sun, saturn mars and mercury in there.

taurus mars and all other aries. I think I relate to mercury in there most.

Honestly for me the conventional themes/interpretations of this house apply. Death, secrets, sex, all those stereotypical things associated with this particular house.

Moon conjunct Pluto in the 8th; Jupiter conjunct Saturn in the 8th.

Ok, I'm not really sure what I think about karma and reincarnation. And I have nothing in my 8th. My 8th ruler planet is in my second.

But, what I wanted to say is that if you really feel you need to do a regression you should not do it alone. Look for a workshop and they will help you through it. I say this because my mother, her friend and her sister did it together and they came back with lots of stories, including people who were fearful, but then when they went through it it was not scary at all. There were also stories of some who didn't "go" anywhere including my mother's friend.

Do not do it alone.

Good luck with your journey!

I have the moon and Saturn in the eighth house. I am not really sure how it affects me. TBH, I notice the twelfth house more than the eighth.

I have Sun, Venus, Ceres, and Neptune in the 8H. I think your teacher has a pretty awesome insight in to this house's energy.

I like to think of the 8H functioning like autumn leaves. When leaves die they compost, locking nutrients into (and eventually becoming) the soil that nourishes future growth. The life of the leaf is long over and forgotten by the time it provides benefit to new growth.

This may be the same spirit your teacher is expressing. 8H represents ALL (material and immaterial) nutrients that are accumulated in a life, but go on to nourish another life. An example of this is taxes and inheritances. Both are sources of nourishment (money), acquired by individuals, completely taken from those individuals, and invested toward the future growth of other individuals. This house is not focused specifically on finances though. Albert Einstein for example has Aquarius NN, in an Aquarius ruled 8H. His legacy lead to a completely new way of conceptualizing our reality. To this day we live in a world that would not be possible had Einstein not lived his life.

On a spiritual level, this can represent energies accumulated from past lives, which now contribute to the psychological/spiritual growth of our present being. Just like the leaf, without death the acquired energies cannot be taken from their original owner, released through new life scenarios, and made beneficial to the new individual. The energies that arise in our 8H are there to establish a spiritual path. The exploration of those energies gives way to transition into the lessons of the 9H.

In the 7H we learn that something outside our self exists and getting to know that something, deepens our relationship with our self. In the 8H we discover that the self is mortal, fleeting, and only able to take so much with it when it goes. The elevated goal of the 8H is to accumulate experiences with a focus on leaving a beneficial karmic legacy. Naturally good karma leads to lifetimes with a greater comprehension of 9H lessons.

As an 8H person too, I probably don’t have to tell you that all things happen in their perfect time. Like Pluto, the 8H focuses on the metamorphosis of the soul. As long as we remain aware of the need for transformation and accept transformation as it arises, we don’t have to push ourselves into blowing up all our stored karmic experiences as fast as possible. Take your time with your karma, because trying to rush experiences will only result in waiting around for the other shoe to drop. If you fear your past lives, then perhaps the fear and not the actual past lives, are what you are intended to address.

Another piece of food for thought: There is no knowledge inside darkness, but there is understanding. A blind man needs no light to see deeply. Dark and Light are deceptions, heavily dependent on the perpetuation of each other. Male is no better than female, nor is up any more beneficial than down. There is no dark and light, only varying levels of clarity.

Xiiro, what you wrote was insightful. I really appreciated it as this is something that we can't find easily, yet how you wrote about inheritance not only being limited to the material, and how one leaves the nutrients that will affect what's still alive, is a great perspective of the 8th house.

And this paragraph I quoted from you, I've quoted it coz it summarized the journey from 7th to 9th. It's interesting that my astrology teacher also sees the chart as a continuous progression, so that in order to comprehend each house we have to have learned our lessons from the previous ones. That is also why we might sometimes go back to some houses.

That was really insightful, Xiiro. I could never really understand the 8th house. In my chart, there's this 7H -> 9H -> 8H ->7H cycle. I think your post really made me understand it.

8H Pisces moon here

I repress a lot. Most of my emotional and spiritual life is lived in my dream state. When I am half-asleep, I become a bit psychic...so that if, say, one of my kids is about to drop a heavy book on the floor and wake me up, I hear it before it happens and will start to sit up, so I'm fully awake once I hear to sound (that I just heard in my sleep.) In my full dream state, I am rather psychic and have predicted things like friends' pregnancies and national tragedies.

As for reincarnation, I have only the faintest idea. In my dreams I continually visit the same places set in the future. It's as if I am living in that time in my sleep, then wake up to this "past life" I'm living now. I am so used to seeing my apartment in that future life that I get homesick for it sometimes And I miss MYSELF, I miss the person I am in that life.

It doesn't make any sense, really, it's like nothing I hear people talking about in their own lives. But it's real for me.

Somehow your experience of dreaming of future reminds me of the movie Cloud Atlas. There were some instances when a character have dreamed of the future; and then in some instances, characters recognizing other characters even thought they only shared an intimate relationship in the future reincarnation.

Also, if I remember correctly, some years ago there were threads about reincarnation and souls here in LL, and they talked about people reincarnating in different eras.

Personally I'm not sure how to see these all, thought it sometimes amazes me to imagine so.

I have Sun in 8th, as does my husband. He has Sun, Venus, and Vertex conjunct in 8th.

I'm not sure about the 8th representing past lives (but I'm also not an expert), but I do tend to focus my thoughts on some odd things sometimes.

One of my greatest fears (I'm going to be really honest here, although to most people it will sound ridiculous) is dying in a tragic, unexpected or traumatic way and not being able to cross over, and wandering around the earth as a lost soul. Yes, that is honestly one of my greatest fears.

So I think about things like that a lot. I'm also very keenly aware of a sort of karmic, or predestined theme that has started to show itself in my life, and I often think about past life stuff.

But I don't like to go into detail about it with other people, besides my husband.
