Okay, so the reason I started this thread was because I was listening to a podcast called All About Women by Dr Drew form Celebrity Rehab. We as humans often form archetypes in our mind when we have early experiences that resonate with certain parts of our chart…. I think Venus, Mars, and the 5th, 7th, and 8th houses (maybe the Vertex Axis as well). It’s like our psyche mentally latches on to certain images and preferences based on things like our early family environment, childhood crushes/experiences, novels we may have read and movies we may have seen.

I think it’s true.

I remember reading an interview of an author, and she said that she tended to base her leading men on either one of her two childhood celeb crushes. One was Mr. Spock from Star Track… Where she’d create a super rational, cool headed, self-controlled type that needed to get in touch with his feelings… The other one was Errol Flynn… Where she’d create carefree, charming, swashbuckling type (I read this article years ago so I can’t remember the author’s name). My guess is that these two characters resonated with certain parts of her chart, and that’s why seemingly imprinted on her mind.

I suspect that when we encounter things very young that particularly resonate with us (astrologically this would be to our Venus and Mars placements, and our 5th, 7th, and 8th houses), we create mental images in our minds that all mixed together comes to form our Ideal mate. Some people have more then one ideal, and it becomes an either/or type scenario like with the author above.

Anyway, Dr Drew pointed out in his podcast that these images in our mind are not always healthy, and can lead us to being attracted to those who are a destructive force in our lives. My take on this is that, lets say we have Neptune conjunct Venus or Mars, or in the 5th, 7th, or 8th houses, we are likely to imprint our ideals based on certain Neptunian characteristics. However, Neptune has both positive and negative qualities…. Would you go merely for someone who is imaginative and compassionate, or would you fall for a slacker, druggie type. My feeling is that if we have an ‘unhealthy’, or even completely unrealistic image that we’ve latched onto, we can look at our charts to see the positive expression of what we’d be attracted to, and then try focusing on that rather then the negative side of it. The unrealistic or unhealthy ideals in our minds might work fine in a piece of fiction, but not in reality.

Someone mentioned that her type is an outlaw, and that sounds pretty cool in a movie but in reality do you really want to deal with someone who has a large criminal record. That’s a bigger limitation then people realize… It makes finding employment more difficult, and there a certain countries you won’t be allowed to travel to. How about someone that’s merely open-minded and courageous in a certain way that appeals.

I guess my point is that we can take negatives in our attraction pattern and turn them around into a positive with some creative thinking/visualizing.

Ooooh, and I do have a type.

Mars Leo in the 9th house
Venus Sagittarius in the 1st house

5th house Aries ruled by Mars in Leo.
7th house Gemini ruled by Mercury in Sagittarius, Jupiter in the 7th house.
8th house Cancer ruled by Moon in Cancer in the 8th house.

I’m a Capricorn with Moon in Cancer and Sagittarius rising. I’m pretty reserved, but I like outgoing, fiery/expressive types, who are friendly and good conversationalists. A ‘Class Clown’ type with a good sense of humor. My Jupiter in the 7th wants him to be a morel and ethical type of person (Jupiter can refer either to someone who is an excessive indulger/party animal, or a high minded/idealistic type. I choose the later). He also needs to have a sensitive side due to my watery 8th house.

Physically...Guys who are not very tall- just below average height for a man, youthful, conventionally handsome in a redneck pretty boy kind of way.

Personality wise I'm sold on kindness, optimism, courage and spirituality.

Can't stand snobs and hardcore intellectuals.
Men who are into fashion or anything metropolitan are a big no as well.
And despite the Saturn in the 7th, older men never appealed to me.

My mars(aqua) is in the 10th house trine my moon(gem) and North node(lib).
My Venus is conjunct Saturn in Pisces in the 11th house square moon, sextile mercury and Neptune.
Moon is in the second house.

My 5 house cusp is at 25 degree Leo but the majority is at virgo. I like the silent yet talkative, heart on their sleeve type of guy.
My 7th house cusp is in 6 degree Scorpio with Pluto in sag close to the 8th house cusp. Most of my relationships have dealt with power given and taken. I like being in control, or rather I like feeling like I am, even though I am pretty fair. I don't like being crossed at all. I'm not a Scorpio but I can sting.
My 8th house in sag makes me want to find a spiritual partner or at least someone I can go places with. I like spiritual transformation. I'm not all about religion though.
I don't want a guy who goes to church, I'll be honest, but who looks to the stars and wonders.

With 3 planets in the 3rd house - two of them being precisely Venus & Mars - and a Gemini DC, you can bet communication is crucial to me! I love mental stimulation and I definitely need it in a relationship. I like playful, goofy types... And independant/individualistic guys who don't give a s*** about what others think of them really turn me on. I seriously value a guy who is not easily influenced by others and is confident enough to stand up for themselves without necessarily being aggressive (some guys don't know the difference). One who is serious and grounded but who is able to express his love for me easily, as my Piscean side needs that comfort... Physical and verbal affections are always a plus.

Appearance-wise, it varies... Sometimes I feel attracted to guys who are not at all the type that I ideally imagine, lol! But usually I like tall guys with broad shoulders, nice arms... Not too skinny. Usually dark, even though I quite often attract guys with light eyes (must be the Mars in Aquarius!). Oh, and hair... I tend to like big hair, I don't really know why though, lol!
