I was wondering this too but not specifically 12th house. Is it related to the SN?

From what I've heard the SN, the sign and the house it's located in.

My sn is in Cancer 2nd house.. I have some ideas about what it could possibly be..

Hmm, so it would be SN + house + sign in natal. Does Sn/past life come into affect in synastry?

Funny you ask this. I've been a fair bit of research about this over the last couple of days...

I think the south node is a more broader sense of who we've been and where we've come from over many past incarnations. It basically sums up what we've experienced, learnt and gained from previous lifetimes here on earth (or elsewhere).

Here is what I've discovered so far:

The twelfth house apparently represents our most previous lifetime. The sign on the cusp will give you a general idea as to the colouring of your most recent past life. Its ruler and the sign/house placement elsewhere in the chart can give you further insight. What is the function of the ruling planet?

For example, if the cusp of your twelfth house falls in Leo, your most recent pastlife dealt with issues concerning the expression of your identity, and the way you went about this was very much central to your soul's development in that lifetime.

The ruling planet, therefore, is the sun. The function again brings about issues relating to the issues concerning the expression of one's identity. If placed in Gemini and the fourth house, issues could relate to becoming familiar with the idea of home/family/roots and what/how that relates to the individual's sense of identity.

An idea that comes to mind could be a person born into a well-known or royal family, but not understanding their place within that family or that family's place in society (opposition to the midheaven or tenth house), possibly to the extent of feeling ashamed. Or it could be a person that became orphaned at a young age and set about that lifetime finding meaning and comfort in their sense of identity and establishing a new home/family for themselves.

By the end of this previous lifetime, this need/recognition of who they are and where they come from has become an integral part of their nature, and thus has continued on into their present lifetime, pushing them to complete what has been left undone (another side to the house of "undoing")...

Subconsciously this individual will have a strong need to have awareness within themselves and others of their heritage, and may express this through patriotism for their country, or simply by becoming a very good home-maker, or may take up the hobby of following their family's ancestry.

Other things to look out for in the birth chart in regards to past lives are obviously planets that fall in your twelfth house as well and by looking at aspects and their rulers to uncover deeper meanings. Aspects to planets found in the twelfth house can be indicative of karmic energies either unresolved or succeeded from previous lifetimes.

For example, Pluto in your twelfth house making a trine to Mars may indicate a harmonious union that has been reaped over many lifetimes due to a transformation occurring from a crisis revolving around your ying/masculine principle. The house placements of these two planets will further indicate which area in your life this harmonious function occurs.

The moon is representative of our subconscious and innate temperament. How we've been nourished, not only by our mother's earlier in this lifetime, but by our circumstances over previous lifetimes. The moon, like the twelfth house indicates subconscious behaviours that we may not even be aware of most of the time. Therefore, any aspects made between your moon and the twelfth house's ruling planets would also be of particular significance. Furthermore, as would aspects made with the south node.

The second and eighth houses are also said to be indicative of "resources" we have bought with us from previous lives. Resources represented by the second house won't, of course, in this sense, represent anything of material value, but can indicate talents of a specific kind. The sign, and planets here, will give your further information as to the kind of talents.

The eighth house is also considered another karmic house, and contracts indicated here may not necessarily be contracts you have signed in this lifetime. Dealings you made, that are completely out of your hands (opposite to the nature of the dealings/resources inherited from the second house), therefore out of your power, hide here and have an unmistakeable effect in this lifetime and future ones.

Lastly, Pluto can be quite a strong indicator of just what you've been up to over your many (or not so many) lifetimes. It's sign and house placement can reveal to you your soul's intentions on journeying down into the earth plane and just what it wishes to experience and has experienced during its time here.
