Besides just "look at the 10th house, cap, Saturn"

Like work as an escape?
I go in and out of it in spurts.

Hm I might have answered my own question. I have an idea, though.

Could synastry with a coworker or boss trigger it? Not because of romantic feelings making you want to be at work more or anything.

i have venus sq saturn and sometimes but not too successfully.

my ex partner had the opposition and apparently this triggered him to respond to me in this way. not really sure if that is true or a duff interpretation but it seems it could never work because of that.

Saturn in 6th house?
Mars in 6th house?

Some people call me a workaholic sometimes, I have Venus in 6th, Mars in 10th and Moon opposite Saturn. My 6th house ruler is also in 10th house.

Saturn gives you 'inner focus' which is why it gives some people the workaholic ability.

I've been called a workaholic before, usually because I'd put in extra hours just to finish whatever I had started on that day or because I have a hard time having fun (feeling guilt even) when I know I haven't completed a task of mine.

My positions are textbook examples, however: Cap Rising and 10th house Sun. Perhaps Moon in 2nd plays a part in this as well, as I can only find a sense of security when I'm financially stable, which makes me work harder, I guess.

Pluto in the 10th house and/or aspects the MC? I've read somewhere that these placements may manifest as a passion for their career choice - like they're passionate about what they do and they put a lot of effort and time into it --> may be seen as "workaholics" by others.

LOL Cap rising and Saturnine chart - I work pretty hard but nah I don't "enjoy" working hard. More like an involuntary "workaholic", driven by external factors lol

You should look at transits for periodic urges that make you go overboard on the work front.
I know Moon in the 10th house or in aspect with the MC puts an emotive pressure on the person with regards to his or her career. Planets (mars, sun, pluto, uranus) that activate the MC midpoints. People that activate your MC midpoints or MC planets could give you a more vibrant feeling to work.

I'm a typical cap rising btw, and loads of Saturn in my char,I've never been a workaholic in my life. I hate working for 'others' actually.

If a cap rising wasn't working for themselves, is feel sorry for whoever they worked for, the ones I've known don't play well with others when they have to assume a subordinate role!
The ones I've met, if they were not running the show, then they didn't like their work!

I don't like abusive bosses/superiors (who does lol). But I feel perfectly fine working for someone else or with a team, I prefer team work over working alone. The other two cap risings that I know well (cousin and s.o) are the same. They have 10th house planets and I have 5 planets in cap.

You wouldn't look at the 10th house for that actually, you'd look at the 6th. Is it afflicted?

this is interesting.
I have the 1990ish capricorn stellium and feel I'm a workaholic (merc & mars too) but then so do some of my peers...and they aren't hard workers!

So maybe I won't be so quick to say Capricorn placements. My aunt is a workaholic. She is a Sagittarius with few earth planets...

I have a Sag Moon in the 6th conjunct Pluto and Sun Conjunct Saturn in the 9th. Sometimes I would rather be at work than at home.
and I prefer to work alone than with others.

Oh! and I loved your idea about synastry, too. Our work environment is an important factor.
My boss and I have great synastry, are like twins, and rarely differ in opinion so I enjoy working more--we are energized by one another.

I have Mars in Cap in 6th, and I am definitely guilty of being a workaholic (and using it as a means of escape, opposite 12th and all that I suppose). My Mars is sextile Jupiter in 8th.

I have Jupiter in my 6th. Jupiter is in Gemini but my 6th is ruled by Taurus.

How can you see if you've got an afflicted house???

Hard aspects (including conjunctions) with the rulers and any planets in the house.

Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out how to work with the houses and not just the planets.

All my houses are afflicted, lol. The only planet that has no hard aspect to it is Jupiter, which rules nothing. Awesome. /snark

yeah i want to clarify that i mean as an addiction - like to escape as one might through the addiction.

for me - i think it might be transits or that i have saturn conjunct uranus loosely conjunct neptune. and venus is opposite all three of them to maybe it enhances the saturn neptune loose conjunction? i also have my anti-vertex conjunct saturn.

POF conjunct leo sun by less than a degree in 9th house both conjunct MC. moon in 6th conjunct descendant by 20 minutes in taurus.

saturn and uranus trine MC. no pluto/mc but moon square MC. i also have vertex sextile MC. but my venus is too loose for the sextile

By the way my sister is Cap sun Leo moon Cap Rising. She's a total no-nonsense business woman but she checks out as soon as she leaves work and starts working on like planning social things or home projects. She likes to be on top of things - but I don't think she's a workaholic the way I mean

Sometimes saturn in the 5th lends to workaholic behavior. Kind of like you will find a way to mix what you enjoy with making money as opposed to jus going out and having fun for the sake of a good time.

I have a 6th house stellium including Mars but am surely not a work-a-holic.

The worst workaholic person I have ever known was a Virgo Mars. Then he worked on the house when he got home from working. He had severe ADD so I think he just had to be doing something.

I've also know an Aqua woman this way, but she had a stellium in Cap.

Surely the Earth signs are in the forefront.

I should add here that I really loved what I was doing when I was working, and the people I worked with. I have a few placements that sort of indicate the workaholic thing, but they all involve Saturn, Capricorn, etc.

While my Mars is in Cap in 6th, my Aqua POF is also in 6th, conjunct my Mercury and DC.
I have Saturn in 11th, and was working in social services before I quit working (so that I could have more energy for my son).

Virgo Moon in 2nd, trine Cap Vertex, and creating a Grand Trine with my MC (taking a wide 5 degree orb into consideration with Vertex and MC/IC axis--without it, Virgo Moon in 2nd still trine Cap Vertex in 5th).

Saturn is also trine Sun.
