curious...how many absolutely adore this poem and happen to be scorpios/plutonic/8th house people....if not, what other aspects you think have to do with it? maybe cancer/pisces? 4th/12th? neptune...moon, etc? it is my favorite poem.Solitude Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone. For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth, But has trouble enough of its own. Sing, and the hills will answer; Sigh, it is lost on the air. The echoes bound to a joyful sound, But shrink from voicing care. Rejoice, and men will seek you; Grieve, and they turn and go. They want full measure of all your pleasure, But they do not need your woe. Be glad, and your friends are many; Be sad, and you lose them all. There are none to decline your nectared wine, But alone you must drink life's gall. Feast, and your halls are crowded; Fast, and the world goes by. Succeed and give, and it helps you live, But no man can help you die. There is room in the halls of pleasure For a long and lordly train, But one by one we must all file on Through the narrow aisles of pain. Ella Wheeler Wilcox's chart IP: Logged |

Great poem.Water signs and water houses are dominant in my chart. I also have Moon/Neptune. Strong Saturn also plays a role, I think, helping to see the bitter reality. IP: Logged |

Hmm I like it, but I don't like the overly doomed "destiny" of the poem, that there would be no hope and only solitude and bitterness, if one falls to that side. Personally, I like more poems that are more towards having some sort of emotional struggle and intensity - the kind that is coz deep inside there is this longing and hope. This poem sounds like there can be a choice, to either be happy or unhappy, but if we go to the unhappy side then all that it's there is no hope.My natal chart placements: Aries Sun/Moon/BML/Mercury/Venus in the 8th house; Sun square Neptune; Moon/BML/Mercury/Venus trine Uranus; Scorpio Saturn conjunct Sag IC from the 3rd house, square Virgo AC; Taurus Mars trine Cap Neptune trine AC, forming t-square with Scorp Pluto in the 3rd house and Aqua Jupiter. I've noticed that she has BML square Moon; sense of void and ultimately apart from the world can be Lilith's theme - personally, I feel that when I fall into negativity, I tend to feel too apart, without the usually expected support from others. I feel that ultimately, I'm different, and no one would truly comprehend my darker side. That if I show it, I'd become apart from the world and others.

Hello I am a Cancer/Leo cusp sun, Scorp rising, Sun, Mercury in 8th house. That poem is my existence too. I am learning to live with my Scorpio Rising. Maybe even starting to understand it a little. Sex plays a big part in my life. Along with the arts, history, occult, otherworld things. I could maybe grow to love my darkness one day IP: Logged |

I don't see it as 'doomed' I see it as more of an acceptance of what the mystic Scorpio or 8th house person should 'know' about the ultimate birth/death cycle of our existence. It's more about learning to cope on your own through acceptance, as is the life of many Scorpio/Rising/8th house sun people. Your view of it as negative is so Aries My mum is an Aries and used to hate it when I'd listen to any music typically 'dark'. She didn't get Joy Division

i also dont see it as negative at all...nor about darkness and sadness.. but very realistic in a personal human level. it is like the saying, we are born alone and die alone. IP: Logged |

Unless we happen to be in a set of multiples Then we are born with at least one other. IP: Logged |

I know what you mean. Your first sensation of this world is truly yours alone and the process you go through in death is no one else's either. No other can possibly know your personal impressions although it will be cool when scientists figure out a way to connect two people so they can mentally experience what the other does. The technology is closer than we realize. Through technological advances, parents will be able to sense what their child experiences while being born and you will connect in a similar fashion to your loved one when they are going. The illusion of being alone will be broken. IP: Logged |

interesting but even if we had the technology, my experience would still be mine and only mine. that, which is i, is still mine... no two people will experience their entire lives the same, and see themselves as the same....as if they were replicas of one another one's joy and pain cannot be exactly the same as someone else's...thus, there will always be that particularity for each individual unless, science is able to replicate a hikoro that is t-it for tat to me...and, i dont see that happening....for now. i mean, not even cloning is capable of this...so in that case, i agree with anonymidarkness.... the saturn thing.... makes more sense when folks say that scorpio and caps have certain things in common
