Yesterday was my maternal grandmother's birthday. She would have been 98. I just realized that her Sun is smack on my Vertex.

Was my relationship with her "fated"? I don't know that I can answer that, but she was the only grandparent I had a relationship with and we were very close. Out of 23 grand kids, I was the favorite. I'm not just saying that. My cousins will say the same with a sneer.

Simply stated, yes. You likely chose to incarnate together for some reason. Even if it was just to enjoy more time learning and living.

Does your Moon aspect Mars or Pluto, mcm?
I've noticed there's a bit of a pattern going on with grandmas and people with Moon in aspect to Mars, Pluto and sometimes even Saturn...

Sun/Vertex sounds delightful.

Vertex connections are pretty short-term for me, usually. They do create an impact most often than not but they don't seem to last, unless you count some wide orbs (like 5° or 6°... seems kinda wide).

Doux...

I always use a 1 (2 at most) degree orb with the vertex. Too tight?

My Moon is quincunx Mars (4 deg) and sextile Pluto (1 deg) ...somewhat minor aspects that I tend to overlook.

I also think one of the reasons we were so close is because we lived far apart. My mom was the only one of her 7 kids to leave Minnesota. So Gram spent a month in winters with us in Arizona, and I'd spend a month with her in summers.

Well, I'd say it's a bit tight, yeah.
Theoretically, I'd use a 3° orb with the Vertex. Conjunctions and oppositions seem to be the most potent. Not sure about squares or easy aspects...

The quincunx to Mars is wide, I wouldn't count it personally. Do you feel like you have a Moon/Mars aspect?
Moon sextile Pluto at 1° is definitely important though, I think it really fits the idea of you having a good relationship with your grandmother.

Distance can definitely improve family relationships... especially child/parent relationships, lol.

Yeah...I never really look at quincunxes...what orb...2-3 degrees? Well the needs of my Cancer Moon and Sag Mars couldn't be any more different!

How do the Moon aspects play out?

Also...I don't have her birth time, but using noon, her Moon would be right on top of my Pluto. Curiously, her Venus is right on my Dsc.

Yup, 2° or 3° for quincunxes.

I don't know how they work natally exactly... I don't have any so it's tricky. But, usually Moon/Mars aspects make it easy for the person to become emotional and frustrated/angry, it's an emotionally volatile aspect. The anger doesn't have to be expressed though... not directly, at least. Very often it's a sort of "seething inside" type of thing, and can play out as being easily irritated/annoyed by things or people. Exercise is virtually necessary if you don't want to be tense all the time, lol. Oh and of course, the mother can be Aries-like in some ways (positive or negative...)

Moon/Pluto sextile is more like... being able to understand emotions well. There can be depth of feeling but not to the point of being overwhelmed by them (hopefully!). The mother, or grandmother (or any other female relatives) can be perceived as having a lot of power in some way... Strong women, for better or for worse. With the sextile it should be a positive thing rather than a disruptive thing (the women would have more positive qualities than negative.)

How interesting, Moon/Pluto in synastry as well! That's intense. Makes me think of a very strong bond, indeed. Protective feelings as well.

Venus on DSC is really nice. Natural affinity. Hmm I need to find some early Sag Venuses, lol.

Well, being an Aqua, and widowed with 7 young kids, Gram was a strong woman indeed. My favorite photo of her is with a shotgun over her shoulder and a cigarette dangling out of her mouth!

My mom has 5 fire placements (Venus & Mars in Aires) and while I'd say she has a strong personality, she's not exactly a strong person...if that makes sense.

You're such a Cancer Moon, talking about family and all.

Yes that makes a lot of sense. Sounds like my mother in a way (Aries Moon, and I have Moon square Mars - which reflects it.) Aries makes me think of a child throwing tantrums. It's not really about strength or power as much as it is about volatile emotions.
