NEW MOON IN PISCES – We are caterpillars becoming butterflies! (February 28, 2014)

In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, February 28. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 11° of Pisces. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 11° of Pisces in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.

New Moons always invite us to reset our intentions and start afresh emotionally in the sign involved. It’s a time to go inward, observe, and contemplate, which provides opportunities for insight, clarity, and direction. With this New Moon in Pisces, we are being invited to see through the illusion of separateness and to more clearly understand that we are all separate and unique parts of one consciousness.

The strong presence of Piscean energy is supporting us in accepting higher-dimensional truths. This is a good time to ask questions such as, “Why did I come to Earth?”, “What is my spiritual mission?”, and “Where do I need to trust my intuition and take a leap of faith?” Given this spiritually-infused New Moon is occurring during the ongoing t-square between Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto, we are being encouraged now to empty ourselves of all limiting concepts and beliefs. This may involve releasing anything that holds us in duality and darkness, including resentment, shame, blame, or guilt.

Pisces is the 12th sign of the zodiac, and it represents the final stages of evolution of consciousness. In addition to the Sun and Moon in Pisces, Neptune and the asteroid Chiron are also in Pisces. Additionally, Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, is actually conjunct (0°) the Sun and Moon. All of this Piscean/Neptunian energy is excellent for creativity and imagination, but it may also have many of us feeling pretty floaty, foggy, and fluid due to a plethora of watery energy flowing around us right now. This increases our intuitive abilities and makes us more heart-centered and inner-directed. However, it can also result in being hyper-sensitive to everything (e.g., sound, touch, emotional situations).

Because Pisces deals with past issues and even past life issues, some of us may be feeling disoriented as we deal with emotional baggage from our past or even with Karmic issues spanning several lifetimes. It is helpful to remember that this is just another step in our evolution, like a caterpillar that is morphing into a butterfly. Old patterns must dissolve so we can transform, transmute, and transcend old programming. We may not be aware of all the changes occurring within us now. Our only awareness of this process may be feelings of fatigue or confusion. Around the time of the New Moon, it may be helpful to slow down, give yourself extra time to rest, and/or spend time in nature or in meditation. Trust that this too shall pass as soon as we release the old patterns and toxic beliefs.

The inspiration for change and new internal growth that is promised by this New Moon in Pisces is amplified because Jupiter in Cancer is trining (120°) the Sun and the Moon. This easy flow of energy will promote planting proverbial seeds, finding faith, committing to compassion, and allowing intuition to flow. Jupiter’s presence in the mix allows us to better express our highest hopes and dreams. Jupiter’s connection to the New Moon is also a visionary aspect, but it would be best to move ahead slowly and not rush into action quite yet. New Moons always involve new, untested energies and ideas, so use this time to gather information and make careful preparations before launching any new projects.

And the need to “go slow” is an overarching theme in the days following the New Moon in Pisces due to all the impending changes coming up. Within one week of the New Moon, four planets will change direction and one planet changes signs:
•On the same day as the New Moon (Friday, February 28), Mercury stops its backward motion and begins moving direct again in Aquarius. During the past three and one-half weeks, while Mercury has been in retrograde, we have been focused inward to explore new thoughts and beliefs. With Mercury’s changes in direction, we will see a graduate decrease in any communication snafus as we begin focusing our minds outward instead of inward. It is likely that we will feel ready to move forward with some of our new ideas. Given Mercury is moving forward in the sign of Aquarius, this is a good time for making new social contacts. However, progress may be a bit slow for the first few days, so patience and precision is still required until Mercury gets back up to speed.
•The next day (Saturday, March 1), Mars begins its next retrograde period in Libra. Unlike the outer planets that turn retrograde once a year, Mars only turns retrograde once every 26 months. This will extend Mars’ stay in the sign of Libra from its customary six weeks to almost eight months. Aggressive Mars isn’t comfortable in peace-loving Libra. But Mars in Libra can be used very productively! It instructs us to reassess our actions, especially within our relationships and to refine how we handle anger, conflict, and inequity. While in retrograde, we may also need to do some “course corrections” on projects and/or renegotiate agreements within our relationships. Given Mars is in Libra, learning how to or perfecting our ability to compromise and cooperate will be critical.
•On Sunday, March 2, Saturn also begins a retrograde period that will last until July 20. This is another indication that it’s best to slow down and solidify foundations before moving forward with major plans. We are being asked to deepen our awareness of our obligations. When Saturn is retrograde in Scorpio, we are being asked to re-evaluate and revamp how we deal with responsibility, power, intimacy, and shared resources. This may involve reassessing the projects that we have started and/or the responsibilities that we have undertaken. We may need to back out of a commitment or reorganize a project to make it “do-able.” Major long-range commitments should probably be avoided until July 20 because this is a time to deal with the past and not the future.
•On Wednesday, March 5, Venus moves out of responsible Capricorn and into friendly but detached Aquarius. Venus in Aquarius often means we have enhanced appreciation for freedom, unconventional people, and original ideas. It’s an excellent time to develop cooperation between like-minded people, and we are more ready, willing, and able to devote ourselves to a cause. Prejudices fall away and a taste for the unusual grows.
•Then on Thursday, March 6, Jupiter begins moving direct again in Cancer, ending its retrograde period that began on November 6, 2013. Over the next few weeks, we will likely feel increasingly ready to surpass old boundaries. We may find that big plans get back on track or inspire more uplifting visions of the future. Although true expansion may not occur until Saturn begins moving direct again on July 20, Jupiter’s forward motion is a signal that we are ready to act on our new perspectives and the wisdom gained during the retrograde period. This may involve applying new rules and structures to food, security, and family (Cancerean domains).

In addition to Saturn’s change in direction, Sunday, March 2, sees a square (90°) between Venus and Mars. This can result in some awkward and uncomfortable social interactions for those who take themselves too seriously. If you are feeling frustrated, it’s probably a sign that you need to “lighten up” a bit. For those willing to play, this can be a sexy, spicy, and exciting day. But be careful not to come on too strong or ignore subtle cues in social interactions. Strive for a balance between your needs and the needs of others.

The next day (Monday, March 3), a sweet sextile (60°) between the Sun and Pluto will provide us with quiet efficiency, resilience, and concentration. Even if difficult situations are encountered, we will be able to meet them with effective action. That action may involve gentle persuasion, which will melt opposition and garner support. If we exert too much straightforward pressure, this could result in resistance. Later that day, the Sun conjoins (0°) Chiron, which will inspire compassion and spiritual awareness. The glorious Sun will illuminate the fears and wounds that need to be healed so we can progress on our life path.

Then on Monday, March 10, Mercury will square (90°) Saturn. Negative thinking and frustrating conversations are possible. And projects that we thought were complete may need some revision. However, the upside of this aspect is intense mental focus that can blow away the fog of confusion that has beset us while the Sun has been in Pisces. It can also facilitate mature discussion about difficult situations.

Overall, this New Moon in Pisces is asking us to focus on our spiritual growth. Part of that growth may require that we accept and even embrace imperfections in ourselves and others. Our imagination and dreams will take center stage, and we will receive an infusion of new faith and hope due to a wonderful trine between the New Moon and Jupiter. We might want to ask questions such as, “What feeds my soul?” and “Where do I need to let go and let God?” Due to all the planetary changes in motion in the week following the New Moon, this is a good time to rest and reflect. Any activities that are peaceful and rejuvenating would be helpful. However, it’s good to remember now that, “Nothing limits achievement like small thinking; nothing expands possibilities like unleashed imagination” (William Arthur Ward).

Thanks for posting this, Node.

So the new moon will be conjunct Chiron...but I didn't see any mention of that in your article. Wonder what that means.
