Hey everyone, I'm new here but I saw this was one of the largest Astrology forums on the web so I had to have my share.

Two things I want to get help with are my Mars in Libra in 9th house and Neptune in 1st. These two placements have caused me much trouble in my life and have really given me some rough times.

Mars in Libra as many of you know, makes for one who is all about diplomacy and never about fighting. I have never once gotten in a fist fight mainly because I either A.) Gave up my own rights to avoid conflict or B.) Successfully got the other person to not fight me via diplomacy. I've since gotten over this and will fight if I need to now, but one other thing still remains that frustrates the living hell out of me: The indecisiveness.

I ******* hate the indecisiveness of this placement, as well as the laziness yet I find myself constantly behiving this way (I'm doing it right now!). I'm an ambitious mofo with Leo sun cap rising so I want to get places in this world but I literally don't know what to do sometimes because there are so many things I could be doing! How do I make better use of my time and not get do bogged down in indecision?

Second thing: Neptune in 1st house. This has also caused me some personal problems throughout my life as well. Since my Moon and sun are square, this placement really doesn't make it much better. The whole not knowing who you are thing is utterly true and only recently have I really actually been able to get somewhat of a grasp of who I am. But the fog is still there, even if I can see through it a little better now. How do I come to cope with the planet of illusion being in the house of self?

i have neptune square sun and neptune first house. i can understand what you mean by the self identity thing. My advice would be to go out and do more physical activities even if you get lazy because of the libra in mars. It'll help keep you away from the escapism and zoning out. as for the self identity issue i wouldn't know. I'm still trying to figure that one out myself. Also try staying away from drugs if you're not already doing that.

I have these placements too! Mars in libra in 9th and cap rising with Neptune on ascendant (Saturn too though, bleh) and can agree they are very difficult placements indeed! However the mars in libra has not stopped me from physically "fighting" at times but that probably has to do with other placements as well...

Wish I had advice but I can barely help myself lately...
But agree with staying away from drugs, especially hard ones and drinking as well, and working on breathing exercises are good for grounding and anxiety...

Neptune in the First Your Urge for Transformation through House Transcendence Focuses on Your Self-Identity
Neptune in the First House denotes the possibility of great rewards, spiritually, but is challenging to deal with. The First House, associated with Aries--an independent and assertive energy--and ruled by Mars—which brings desire into concrete action—focuses you on the tasks of self-definition and the assertion of the self as a separate entity. The function symbolized by Neptune is to dissolve definition and evaporate barriers of separation so that the self may merge into something higher.
Neptune rules the Twelfth House, which symbolizes the end of the developmental process begun in the First House. Thus, Neptune in the First House symbolizes your capacity to transform and transcend the concept of the ego-self, bringing self-identity to an entirely new level. It can also symbolize you having great difficulty in formulating and retaining a "practical" self-identity. This may be accompanied by a dysfunctional self-image.
In the first case, your self-development will be directed toward greater spirituality and is likely to involve a heightening of intuition and sensitivity. In the latter case, you may never achieve a stable structure around which to build your self- identity. Your self-image and self- esteem will, consequently, be prone to weakness and negativity. In either case, you are likely to assimilate various characteristics associated with Neptune, thus displaying Neptunian traits in your personality.
The degree to which your personality is shaded by Neptunian influences increases the closer Neptune is to the Ascendant. Such influences would include fluidity, nonspecificity, intuitiveness, affinity for the non-material and emotional sensitivity. These qualities have a range of positive and negative manifestations.
Transcendent Potential
Though the road of self-transcendence may be long and difficult, the rewards involve bliss and ecstasy. You can realize the transcendent potential of Neptune in the First House if you carefully tread the razor's edge between spiritual growth and escapism, self-transcendence and self-annihilation. An early lesson you must learn is that there must be a self to be transcended and that self-realization is a prerequisite to God-realization. In your journey of transformation and transcendence, you will develop qualities of deep compassion born out of the realization that all life is one. You are sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, even the souls inhabiting lower life forms. You have an ability to flow effortlessly with life, for you accept the Divine Will completely. You have perfect equipoise and you are as at home with your own solitude as in a crowd. You realize that the ego is nothing and that this ego is not the real self.
Insecurity
If you are inwardly insecure, the relentless pull from the super-conscious to transcend the ego will be too frightening for you to handle. On the one hand, you may reject this pull; on the other hand, this pull may bring about confusion. Rejection of the pull prompts you to cling to your ego tightly. Yet this suppressed pull manifests subconsciously as escapism and/or self-destructive tendencies. You may escape into addiction, pathological behavior, or religious zealotry. Fantasy may also enter into concept of who you are, whether this fantasy involves self-delusion or a pattern of practicing deception on others.
When confusion is your response, a weak and disorganized self-concept results. You may have doubts about your worthiness--about your "right" to exist. You may experience internal struggle (conscious or unconscious), which you are unable ever to resolve, between forces of self-formulation and self-dissolution. You may have a great deal of uncertainty about your self-identity and you may also be plagued by vague fears. All this is likely to result in a non-assertive, frightened, confused self exhibiting little direction or sense of self-worth.
Focus Your Efforts Toward Transcendence
Neptune in the First House suggests that you will attempt to transcend the ego and the self. You are likely to reject commonly accepted beliefs about the self and its role and to constantly reevaluate and redefine your concept of the self. Spiritual pursuit is likely to be an intensely personal experience for you and to play a large role in shaping your self-identity.
Focus of Your Idealism
You will tend to incorporate a sense of idealism into your self-image and identify strongly with idealistic causes. You may also have an idealistic attitude about independence, individualism and the importance of the self. If not tempered, or if based too much in ego need, what appears to you to be idealism will appear to others to be self-delusion.
Focus of Your Intuition and Sensitivity
Your intuitive skills are likely to be employed in the quest for discovering your identity. You are likely to gain much insight about the self from quiet and sensitive reflection. Qualities of intuitiveness and emotional sensitivity may also be evident in your personality.
Focus of Your Escapism
You may escape from unpleasant realities by engaging in fantasies about yourself. This may be entirely internal (daydreaming) or it may express itself in projections of unrealistic roles or delusions about your self-importance, which you then act upon. In the extreme, schizophrenia and other mental confusions may result. You may also use self-absorption as a means of escape from reality. Or, you may identify with various escapist behaviors, thus making recovery and reform extremely difficult.
Your Experience of Illusion and Deceit
You are prone to self-delusion and to deceiving others about yourself. You may often deny truths about yourself that are evident to others. You have a capacity to keep dissonant images of your self separated and this may lead to the appearance of you being "two-faced".
Your Experience of Disintegration and Disillusionment
You may experience periods when the self appears to disintegrate or when self-identity becomes confused. This will generally happen only if you have a weak personality or when you are under considerable stress. You are also prone to become disillusioned with yourself. Such trauma to the self leads to depression and other mental disorders. Even if no depressive episodes occur, you may be plagued by a sense of the tenuousness and impermanence about your selfhood.
Your personality may also manifest undertones of Neptune aspecting Mars or the Sun.

I have these placements as well. Neptune conjunct the ASC in 1st, and the mars libra. the mars can be indecisive, but I've never found it lazy... that could be other aspects creating that for you, so look at your natal and what aspects mars makes to other planets. libra mars can be pretty feisty and actually like debate and "fights," so while it's not a physical fighter it's definitely one that can stand up for itself.

I understand the Neptune dilemma; it's been lifelong for me as well. It's hard to understand who I really am at times and I change my look, appearance and interests all the time in an effort to 'find' myself. In my own way that has become 'me' - I embrace that I morph and change quite frequently and in it's own way it's fun. I have found a way to positively express Neptune through my clothing styles, hair styles, etc.; making the most out of changing my appearance every day to reflect that confusion over my own self, and perhaps to find it along the way.

I have these too. I have out of sign conjunction between sun and neptune in first house, with jupiter and mercury (they are not a stellium though). And my mars is in libra, but it's in the 10 house, but my sun square my 10th house.

I have a cap sun and leo moon, and a sag ascendent. But my sun and mars don't make a square. Too wide orb.

Well, things aren't so bad. I just always have to push myself hard to do something. And i also get late, and sometimes lose opportunities, but then get others. I have the problem of laziness. But i also get around it. I just motivate myself and at the same time don't bash myself this much.

You can borrow someone's mars to energize you. This helps a LOT! Mars trine moon: look for this one in a partner.

I am definitely indecisive. But i embrace it. Overriding your mars by other decisive planets is not always a good choice. Sometimes taking your time is best.

Don't forget that mars in libra can get things done by diplomacy. And they manage very well in such situations. Look on the positive side: you have an ability to charm people to get them doing what you want. Also, mars in libra are overwhelmingly good in bed
