How does mercury in 4th describe a parent and what affect does it have on someone?

Lot of communication at home. Parents might be too focused on only that though, depends upon aspects I guess. The person may need to feel “at home” to communicate with others.

I have this!
My mom is a Gemini actually lol.
My mercury is super afflicted though (3 squares and a quincunx) and I think this attributed with feeling like I didn't have a voice around my family if that makes sense. I was a chatter box with my mom and step dad but around relatives I never (and still do) feel comfortable expressing myself around them.

Anon has a great point about feeling at home with someone. I also have Sun, NN, Venus, and Chiron in my 4th house

I don't think it describes my parents, unless my mother's Virgo Moon counts. When it comes to me, I think it helps me analyze and see my family situation clearly.

It's actually my daughter that has this aspect. She has north node and mercury in 4th.

I have a Gemini moon that's very prominent on my MC. My mother is a Gemini sun. All the women in my family are chatter boxes.

My husband though isn't very talkative at all. He's a Taurus.

I have moon conjunct north node in Gemini and she has mercury and north node in 4th.

That's funny how they inherit things like that.

Isn't it? My mom's moon is in her 5th and I have a Leo moon, She has an Aries moon and I have moon in 1st square mars, we both have Virgo/Pisces on our IC/MC axis except I have Virgo IC and she has Virgo MC, I'm a cancer Asc- scorpio decan, she's a scorpio Asc-cancer decan, and she has Saturn conjunct her Dsc and I have Cap Dsc plus a ton of other things.

I have Venus in Leo so I guess that's why her moon is Leo.

She also has sun in third and my sun is conjunct mercury.

She has mercury in 4th I have mercury in cancer.

I have Pluto in first and she is a Scorpio.

Also my fifth house ruler is conjunct Pluto.
