Hello. Maybe blame my Aries moon but I am pretty direct and an open book overall so people who don't open up emotionally or aren't direct confuse me. I am a Cancer sun and mercury also btw.

Would we look at the person's moon sign and mercury to see how they communicate? Would the ascendant be a factor? Even if you've known them for a while?

The specific individual I am speaking about is a Scorpio Sun/cancer moon/Scorpio mercury although I also knew a Cancer Sun/Taurus moon/Cancer mercury who was equally as quiet/hesitant to discuss his emotions

Anyways I would love to know your experiences and personal placements if you know of or are a shy/quiet person who has a hard time opening up

I have a retrograde cancer mars square my libra asc, I need people to let me know they are accepting of me, then I'll open up, I don't open up straight away to anyone. People need to give me a reason to open up. For this reason i might appear like a social snob but really its to protect my feelings against imbalances and to set boundaries. I've also got Saturn in my 4th so it's quite hard to let people in. People need to let me know they like me, but even then it's a slow process of truly opening up. (Saturn conjunct Venus) also.

Hmmmmm I'd say saturn placements. Or 12th house placements (may indicate private people who like to keep to themselves).

Idk, I have a fire moon in the 3rd, so to me, letting it out is always better than holding it in.

12th house planets n a heavy load of saturn -
It also depends on how I view the friendship/relationship. For example, if I only want to keep a person in the "social acquaintances" level, chances are I won't open up that much. It's not out of shyness or difficulties, although I guess that some people may view it as such.

From my experience, I'd say harsh aspects from Saturn to the Sun, Moon, or Mercury.

I would say Pluto. They want to know everything about others and give nothing away about themselves.

That's a lot of water… I dated a guy with Cancer sun Scorpio moon, Cancer mercury Cancer venus and he literally spoke maybe 15 words on our first date. My chatty Mercury in Gemini friend got more out of him than I did when they dated.

Scorpio, Capricorn & Virgo.

I'd say the signs that do open up are Cancer, Leo, Ophiuchus, Sagittarius, Aquarius & Pisces.

Me. I have Saturn in the 1st house. I also have moon square pluto. I control what 'information' gets out about me & I am sometimes not very direct when people ask me things about myself. I keep them guessing. But I open up when I feel like I can trust a person & feel like I really like them.

Pluto and scorpio obviously.

I'm an scorpio rising and pluto in the 1st house and for me it's really difficult to open up, I don't like to talk about myself, only with my closest family members and friends.

I'm not open ...very secretive .
I have saturn conjunct AC /square Moon , although my moon is in Cancer , it was wrecked down by saturn . Saturn -influenced people don't talk as much because they must inspect the new environment carefully before they take a next step.

Another part is my scorpion Mercury and Mars .

if it's just emotional restriction then Saturn, or the sign ruled by it, so caps will often have this issue. Also scorpio placements because they are, by nature very cautious of letting others know their vulnerabilities. and a moon opposite mercury makes it hard for the person to express emotions verbally.
