I'm using astro.com for my charts, what's the difference between a normal natal chart and a progressed chart?

there are 2 main ways to progress a chart. one is to find your progressed ascendent (by feeling where it seems to be) and then just go by the chart at that time. so it would make your planets possibly move into other houses. i find this accurate because when my progressed ascendent moved to conjunct venus, it felt very much like i was being ruled by venus.

the other way to progress your chart is to for example if you are 25 years old, you find the chart of your 25th day of life, and that is the chart for your whole 25th year. i dont know if this is accurate or not.
