Ok, I'm actually procrastinating like nobodies business right now.. But a thought popped up in my mind, so yeah lol. Also bear with me if my thoughts seem a little scrambled (sleepy too and I'm probably gonna hate myself in the morning for this).

So, I don't really know of any couples who have stayed married for years 20+ but, to those who do and know their birth data, or even for those who are really knowledgeable about synastry/composite, have you found that ultimately the natal charts are the main indicator of success within a relationship?

Like is it a consistent near guarantee that the natals aspect the composite in some way?

Also, have you found that despite some couples having "doomed aspects" like mars/pluto, mar/saturn, venus/saturn, etc. they have still remained together due to these aspect signatures in their natals?

I guess where I'm going with this is that maybe when looking at synastry composite charts, we shouldn't see it as a "one shoe fits all" type deal?

Is there even a way to truly guarantee/predict the success of a relationship with synastry and composite?

You ask good questions. I wish Ceri would see this, her parents in particular are a good example. I think they have a close Mars-Saturn conjunction in synastry, but it only grew them close.

While I have not been married not even for a second, I believe that yes, the natals do hold the key. It doesn't matter if the synastry is all trines if your natal shows you like friction! You will go after what you need. Natals aspecting composite is a GREAT tool. I wish I had paid more attention to it. If it hits the natals (and BOTH of them) with many many aspects, then you got two people who will be determined to stay together, because they found something worth fighting for. If the composite doesn't quite aspect your natal you'll be more meh, it's all the same whether you're coming or going. But I don't believe in near guarantees or guarantees for that matter. There is no one shoe fits all. Yes, people tend to have mainstream tastes. But there's no telling - except their natal chart and sometimes not even that! ~I would look at duads too - how a person will react to whatever circumstance. Life can change in a blink of an eye, so can a relationship. I also think it is important that both of them are emotionally ready to be in that relationship. A depressed person will not stand for the challenge. An immature one will throw tantrums. So, while I believe bad aspects are less bad than no aspects at all, and in some circumstances can bring people together strongly, we should pay attention to them and how they fit into our own chart and own life stories.

My parents' synastry has mars aspecting saturn (easy aspect), mars oppose pluto n Pluto squares n oppositions. 20+ years marriage. Yeah they fight heaps. Very protective of their marriage and it's not because of family/social expectations or obligations. They went against family expectations to stay together. I'm a bit surprised to see that there isn't much saturn in the chart (one sun square saturn n some semi sextiles...)

Their both have quite a few mars, pluto harsh aspects in their charts -> love the tension, the fights, the craziness...

composite sun conj his mars
composite saturn con his venus
composite NN trine his mars, conj jupiter (his chart ruler n dominant planet)

composite vevus n mars conj her saturn
composite saturn conj her MC
composite moon trine her NN

One size does def not fit all.

For some, Venus conjunct Mars doesn't do a thing and others find Venus conjunct Pluto just plain creepy.

I think it also depends on the signature of your natal chart. Some people are Plutonic, others Saturnine,Venusian, Martian or Lunar etc.

Some people feel irritated by their partner's planets on their 7th house whilst planets in the 8th has the effect of making others tense up-because of fear.

Sextiles may be sexy to others whilst for others, they lack the urgency that is needed for passion.

Its trial and error. What is good to the geese may not be great for the gander.

First, when you meet someone with whom you feel intense attraction for, you explore it. And then, when in it, you retrospectively analyze why the attraction was so immediate?

That's what I do. And the answers are starting to be consistent.

I think it's possible to predict whether people are inclined to tough it out through the bad times.. or throw in the towel.

You can tell when two people are close enough emotionally and on other levels - and also responsible or 'adult' enough - to make something work long term.
Nothing is 100% but you can tell.

But usually when a relationship feels stable - the people in the relationship are not so worried and paranoid about it. They probably wouldn't post here asking whether it would last - because they *know* that their SO is there for them.

I can definitely identify patterns in my own relationships - where I felt/feel like I could trust that person to be there no matter what -- and alternatively patterns where I felt 'unsure' and generally distrusting of them.

When I feel *sure* - I don't usually ask about it on LL because I know I can count on them - because it's clear to both of us.

I've looked at charts of couples who were married over 40 yrs like grandparents and family friends - and usually the composite has close conjunctions with the personal planets - Sun/Moon or Sun/Venus or the love stellium - Sun/Venus/Mercury..
I've also noticed that Venus is almost always in aspect to Mars, whether negative or positive - this seems like a pattern.

Venus/Saturn and Mars/Saturn are very good in terms of longevity. Why did you think they were doomed?

If doomed means 'not long lasting'/brief or casual... then the kinds of aspects you would be looking for are aspects that create unstable/fleeting energy... like Uranus squares, Neptune squares.. lots of mutable energy.. un-aspected planets.. no real connections between Sun/Moon/Venus... aspects that are out of orb.. etc.

Basically when you look at a doomed composite - what you see is a lot of *disconnected* stuff.. It doesn't feel stable. There's no pattern.. There's no rhyme or reason to the chart. It just looks 'loopy'.

Fixed energy and anything the touches Saturn - will give people staying power.
