I don't understand why the ascendant is so important. Also, half of my 1st house is Aquarius and the other half is Pisces. Would this make me seem like an Aqua and Pisces...if in fact the Asc is so important?

the ascendant is important because it usually dictates how people see you when they first meet you, how you wear yourself, what clothes you like to wear and general social situations.

the ascendent is the point where you say hello to new information that is unblocked by the earth, it is the freshest and newest point, it is aligned with the ecliptic. it is the point where you find yourself, and the descendent is where you say goodbye to energy, as it gets blocked by the earth, also the point opposite the ascendent, opposite of your most powerful point of self, therefore, it is how you percieve others, apparently

the ASC is really important, I am one who thinks it's even more important than the sun. it's the 1st impression you give off to others; it might not be how you see yourself, but it's generally how others would see and describe you. you might think you're easy-going, but others see you as serious. if there is a conflict between what you think of yourself and what others say it's usually because the ASC/sun are in different elements. most interactions with people (think a clerk at a store you buy from) are very fleeting, so they will never know the real you, they will just have an impression, which is your ASC. if your ASC is aqua then you'd come off as aqua, especially if that is your sun sign as well. people with a matching ASC/sun have the luxury of seeming very genuine to others; you are what you appear to be.

I'm gonna be the dissenting opinion and say I don't think its all that its made out to be. If its not heavily aspected that is anyways. Reason I say this is because there's been too many times where I've seen the sun or moon take far more predominance in a lot of people. It really just depends on how strong your individual placements are.

I've known people with leo rising but virgo sun cancer moon who do not act Leo-ish and I did not really perceive them to be very leo. The virgo in them was a lot stronger and I saw that more. Another friend of mine is a Leo rising cap sun cap moon all in 5th house. He seems a lot more leo than the other guy but only because most of his planets are in leo's house. But I get along with both of them very well due to the Leo-Leo receptivity. The same would go along with 2 other people meeting and if they shared similar signs between their planets.

My own experience has chalked up to me mostly being seen as a very outgoing fun dude who might be a bit crazy sometimes. If someone's sun is stronger than their rising, they're more likely to bring those traits out, same with the moon. I've known COUNTLESS Taurus moons who all have that grounded, calm taurus quality to them and it really outshines everything else. I've known other scorpio moons who you would never have guessed they were scorp moon.

Thus, it is really dependent on how strong your big 3 are and which is the strongest to find out which is the most important for you. Also, for guys, the sun is more important, and for girls the moon is, since sun represents masculine qualities and moon represents feminine ones (father/mother)

Ok, I can see how it is important in how people perceive you but why do astrologers say to read your ASC sign when reading horoscopes? I don't understand that.

Yes, because it rules your physical appearance. Hence, it also rules the way 'the world' perceive you.

Sometimes you may have an uncouncious behavior related to your ASC.

But if you have some troubles in life related with the Ascendant (enemies, karmic lessons, etc), always remember that:

When you are lost, you should always look at your North Node, it indicates why are you here. (and look at the MidHeaven too)

Because:

Have a Good Day!

Without Asc there is no chart. No map to follow, no signature, nothing.

What astrologers recommend reading horoscopes? You mean daily horoscopes?

the mistake with this reasoning is that you cannot judge yourself with accuracy, that is whole point of the ASC. it is how others see you. you might *think* you are like your X sun, but when asked by others they may say she is very Y. and we're talking about strangers, not friends or people who know you. it's terrifically easy to judge how friends are (because you already know), but when asked to describe a stranger or new acquaintance the ASC is what people normally rely upon
