Your rising is who you are and your sun is who you're becoming. That's my look at it. But also your rising is who you appear to be, your sun is who you actually are.IP: Logged |

LOLOLOL... Story of my last hour... Well, I can see myself as a mixture. I've noticed when I first meet people, it's my Asc, but when I'm comfortable with them, my Sun shines through. IP: Logged |

I can't really tell the diffrence to be honest, somtimes when i try to guess someones sign, ill guess their sun, other times the moon or the asc. I don't really belive that the asc is a "mask" i see it as a part of someones being just as much as anything, from my experience it's not like when people let down their guard the rising sign becomes less subtle. ill give you an example so that it makes more sense: Say someone has a fire/air asc, and a water/earth moon and sun. Usually they are still less outgoing in the beginning than when you get to know them more, but you will always be able to notice their rising, just as you would with all other parts of their chart. my ascendant is Gemini and i have no planets there. But I've always been infatuated with words...always got the highest marks for word quizzes...and loved reading to a point. I also came from learned beginnings...having the highest marks in highschool because I loved learning. Yet as I grew older...my pisces moon kept leading me away from scholastism towards experimentation in college which muffled my learning until recently - at which point pluto in capricorn passed over my sun and kicked my butt back into high gear. I identify a lot more with my Cancer Sun than I do with my Taurus Rising. I don't think I'm much of a Taurus at all but there is stuff going on in my chart that helps explain why that is. It really depends on the person though. I definitely know people who are more like their Rising sign than they are their Sun sign. IP: Logged |

I see my Moon sign and Sun sign more prevalent than my Asc.When I read horoscopes, I tend to read my Moon and Sun.I ignore the Asc. IP: Logged |

Nope not for me usually. It just depends on the transits that day, how I feel etc. Personally, I usually feel all 3 aspects at different times p, but I act my sun out the most for sure. The only reason I ever act like my rising is if I let the Scorpio moon fear get to me and then I get kind of quiet. But I seriously hate that aide of myself and really try not to be that way.IP: Logged |

Hmmm... Well the rising sign is like a social mask, or the filter through which we give energy out into the world receive it back. It's very surface oriented and doesn't say much at all about the person's true inner core (unless they have other placements in the same sign as the rising). The Sun sign, on the other hand, describes the core identity of who we feel we are underneath our social mask. I often pick up on people’s Sun or Moon signs quite strong just by observing them. For some reason they stand out to me more then the rising sign, as if I’m able to see past the social mask they wear, and into the energy patterns they have at deeper levels. However, after I learn a person’s rising sign it usually makes sense in terms of that person’s surface personality, mannerisms etc. Everything in the chart has it’s function. The Sun shows our sense of purpose, and where we like to shine. When we succeed at things related to the Sun’s position in our chart it makes us feel more ’alive’, as we’ve really started to express the true essence of ourselves. In the solar system all the planets revolve around the Sun… In the natal chart the Sun shows our central mission, and the rest of the planets are like the personal ’tool box’ we’re able to utilize in support of that mission. The Moon seems to show something even deeper then our ego identity. It shows the general mood of our emotional foundation, our ‘inner child’ dynamics, and where we run to for shelter and security. If something goes wrong in our lives, our pride is broken, and we’re freaking out, we often start acting strongly inline with our Moon sign. The Moon’s position describes how we behave when we feel like crying to mommy. Even if we’re putting up a brave façade, the energy of our Moon will leak out to others when our emotions are stirred, we want comfort, or we seek to comfort others. A person with a Gemini Sun and a Capricorn Moon, would feel most ’alive’ when they are learning and communicating. When they are recognized for these abilities they will feel they’re being recognized for who they truly are. They identify with the role our a communicator and a thinker. At their core, they feel that it’s their central motivation. However, they would also crave material security and respectability, not because they identify with being this super responsible type person (like a Capricorn Sun does), but because they NEED it to feel safe. When times get tough this person may switch from being a lighthearted social butterfly to a rigid stoic type, that has a business-like attitude to problem solving. They would comfort others by being firm yet realistic with them. With the rising sign… Basically, it describes a person's outlook… If like if a stage, the rising sign basically describes the type of ‘play’ they see going on around them. A Capricorn rising sees a world in which people need to work in order to gain or maintain security and status. A Leo sees a world filled with personal dramas and glory, where different egos conflict or support each other. A Gemini rising sign sees a world full of curiosities to be explored. And so on. Added to that, of course the rising sign describes the style and mannerisms that others see us express on a surface level. When they tune into our frequency on deeper levels, though, they might get a very different vibe. IP: Logged |

Oh yeah.I'm a Capricorn Sun, Cancer Moon, Sagittarius rising. All three are felt and different parts of me are active at different times. I also have a bunch of planets in Sag... Mercury, Venus, and Neptune. I suspect I feel more Sag-like then the average Sag riser because of my Sag planets. I'm quiet like a typical Capricorn, but I have a cheerful, positive demeanor, and an intellectual bent like a Sag. I also get enthusiastic when I talk, and like to study and learn. Love being a Capricorn Sun though, as it makes me level-headed and determined. Underneath the 'likeable-girl' thing I've got going on I'm serious and firm about what's important to me. My Cancer Moon makes me sensitive, and makes me want to take care of someone and have them take care of me. I'm also big on having security. No surprise with the Capricorn-Cancer combo. IP: Logged |

Many different opinions on this but personal experience is always the best evidence you need. And from my own experience, it is the Rising sign that is the true indicator of who you are. The personal planets helps "color" everything else..I don't believe the Sun represents who you are becoming. I believe the rising sign reveals that as well as the othe 3 angular points (IC DC MC) I feel like your MC is your true "social mask" while your rising sign indicates your soul, and souls purpose. Your DC may represent how you see the world and what you feel is missing in your life. And your IC represents important lessons you have learned at home. Horoscopes are determined by house placements, reading your rising sign instead of your sun tends to be more accurate (I prefer weekly and monthly horoscopes than daily ones though) The Sun is still very important, I believe it colors the masculine energies that approach you in life, but your rising sign represents your entire life's path in total. And who you are "rising" to be.. Peace

I agree with much of this because in esoteric astrology the rising sign is the soul mission. Thank you. Namaste. IP: Logged |

I'm Libra Sun, Pisces Moon, and Sagittarius ASC. I relate to standard descriptions of my Sun Sign the least, but it is still there, especially in the constant striving for balance.IP: Logged |

I guess we must agree to disagree on a few points here. The rising sign is more accurate in run of the mill horoscopes because the rising sign determines the house cusps in a chart, and thus which house certain transits are taking place. I certainly don't feel that the rising sign represents the core of our personality. Rather, as I mentioned before, I see at our personal outlook on the journey of life (how we view the world around us), our surface persona, our appearance, and our mannerisms. The 1st house is the house of the ‘self’ in the sense that it shows how we assert our individuality amongst others in order to distinguish ourselves on surface level. It’s the first impression that we make, but once we dig deeper there is often so much more going on. Who we feel we are might be different then what we are projecting via the Asc. A persons sense of ego identity is represented by the position of the Sun… I love my Sagittarius rising, and find it fun to be one. But my Sun is in Capricorn, and I feel my ego identity is tied to this sign. In my heart of hearts I feel like a Cap, while my Sagittarius rising, and other planets, are like a nice gift rap around my Capricorn Sun. The only exception to this being my Moon which feels somehow deeper then my sense of identity. However, the Moon is more about my subjective needs for security then how I define myself. The Asc shows our persona amongst people who interact with us up close and personal (the Asc is opposite the Dsc which rules our most significant one on one relationships). The Mc shows our overall reputation in society, our official post. If people do not know us personally but they have heard of us or seen us around, then they are probably picking up on our Mc. If we want to talk about the eternal soul, which is not the same at our temporary ego identity for this life, I don’t think this is shown in the natal chart at all. Rather the natal chart shows our karma for this life-time, what we want to accomplish in the world in this life-time, and the lessons that we need to learn in this life-time. This is shown by the entire natal chart though, not just by the rising sign.
