He writes of the universal mind in his Essay on History...revealing the mystery, that history is as much story as anything else..

But I find his idea of the Universal Mind presented in such a way as anyone can digest it..

His aspects to Uranus are...
Sun trine Uranus orb +3°56'
Mars sextile Uranus orb -0°09'
Moon sextile Uranus orb +2°45'
Uranus inconjunction Pluto orb +0°49'
Uranus semi-square Neptune orb -0°25'

from astrotheme...he is uranus dominant...it is conjunct his ascendant in Libra...and he is a gemini with mercury in gemini in the 9th.

Perfect person to present the universal mind.

And this reminds me of how far behind we are today. WE really have to reach back for the good writings. The writers of today are kind of like manufactures of junk food...It seems we in the astro-world have picked up where the intellectual giants have left off...and scientists have become crusty in their lack of faith in mystery. Speaking generally here..not in absolutes.

So Ralph Waldo Emerson had a Libra ascendant? Interesting.

The person I associate most with Uranus dominate (Aquarius) is Jules Verne.
During his lifetime his work could have been described as science fiction.

His subjects hadn't been invented yet therefore he showed the gift of forethought which is an Aquarian trait.

Excellent piece AlexDern!

Wouldn't "universal mind" be more of a Jupiter and 9th house influence?

Anyway, I just looked at his chart in Astrobank. His Mercury is in the 9th squaring Jupiter in the 12th. And Uranus isn't really on his ascendant--there's a 9 degree orb.

Totally agree.

He was the one who introduced the term "Over Soul", and that is again a very thought provoking essay. Decades ahead of the New Age Community.

Interesting I just read his name this afternoon, when reading an Emily Dickinson Biography.

I guess he had more influence on her than her Formal Schooling did.

Wish you had posted the chart, have to go find one!

Thank you graciously! I noticed Verne's was a Gemini ascendant. How intriguing! One demonstrates the forward thinking and intuitive and imaginable aspect of Uranus and the Emerson talks more about Uranus as the Promethean impulse of people to liberate them selves by mental faculty which he extrapolates is universal....or the over soul which I read later to be attributed to Uranus.

I know Emerson is read widely and I think most people who read it do not realize the depth of his understanding of metaphysics...IT hink they gleam by it as teenagers and really dig the ideas but don't fully follow them to the reality...for Emerson, and for many, this One Mind is as real as daylight, albeit not so much in the foreground as our personalities...

Just as I suspected, the most out of bounds Mercury that I have ever seen.

Gemini in the Ninth House.

I think that's still pretty good for an angle..certainly it's in a prime sector...

Either way...it aspects almost most of his personal planets...and you were right...he has an exalted mercury in the 9th house...which is the house of jupiter.

Excellent observation! I would have posted it but my skills for posting charts are lacking at the moment...I will refresh my memory for future reference.

Cool topic. He was a brilliant essayist.

Emerson's good friend and fellow Transcendentalist, Henry David Thoreau, is also someone that comes to mind when thinking of 'Uranian'. Thoreau had Aquarius Ascendant, and Uranus conjunct the Midheaven, making Uranus his second most powerful planet (according to Astrotheme).
Oddly enough, I forsure thought Nikola Tesla had Uranus dominant, but it turns out that it makes few close aspects. It sits in the first house though + his Taurus ascendant conjuncts Pluto by 2 degrees.. hmm.

There are many people here who think "outside the box."

(For better or worse.)

Anyway, they all colour outside the lines in one way or another.

I'm not sure how you check the Declination on Astro.com.

I very seldom use it, because I have one at home.

One thing I have noticed is everybody writes so nothing is unique anymore and one person cannot possibly digest everything.
