Well, i am not a fan of the source of where you got your info. But i do use it.At the end of the day, it is really not cast in stone and only experience will teach you which system is best for you.
Some people use Ptolemy and they have no issues with it, others prefer Placidus and reach "Aha" moments with that system.
I use the whole house system when I am trying to discern someone's Asc/Mc positions.
I also use it when I am dealing with cusp planets-at the beginning of a sign.
For example, My Pluto in 6th and 7th both have substance.
If I look at the ruler of my Dsc(Pluto) being in 6th, it would suggest that my partner is a workaholic or someone who deals a lot with details. Hmm....not quite.
If I look at the ruler of my Dsc(Pluto) being in the 7th, it would suggest that my partner is relationship-oriented,agreeable, social and likes being with other. Okay, yes.
My Libra BF is annoyingly social and likes being with people. I understand this need, however, as I have Venus(ruler of my Asc) in the 7th. I share the sentiment but not as much as he does as I have Saturn in 7th too.
Read your chart holistically , apply real-life knowledge and it must "sing". If it doesn't, then the system may not apply to you. If it does, stick with it -until something better comes along and manages to hit all the high notes.
One should never exercise "loyalty" to the old ways of doing things in the pursuit of grander knowledge.
If the new proves worthwhile, sentimental attachment to the old could be mistaken for arrogance.
