I don't think a Virgo sun can have a Scorpio Mercury. IIRC, Mercury can only be one sign removed from the sun, so a Virgo sun could only have a Mercury in Leo, Virgo, and Libra.

Hmmm, he's too witty to be Scorpio Mercury. If he's late Virgo, maaaybe Sag Mercury... Is it possible? otherwise I vote for Aqua Merc, Cap Sun.

I think January 6th 1854 is the generally accepted date of birth. So Capricorn.

Most Capricorns I know are very smart. IMO, they have better BS detectors than Scorpio (though Scorpio may catch more BS because they're scanning for it more, and Scorpio detectives would probably be better at chasing crazy deviants than Cappie would as Cappie has a much harder time understanding "flat out crazy"--even in the case of one Cappie I know who is flat out crazy himself, though still brilliant).

Come to think of it, I know two Cappies who LOVE Sherlock Holmes, one having perhaps every book and movie about the character ever made.

Well, it does have Pluto on the Ascendant. Otherwise, Fiction.

My best guess. Or something close to it.

I would expect something of the following...

Finding deeper meanings/detective work/death and murder... Shouts 8th house to me

Belief in the superiority of science to superstition... Strong Uranus and or Aquarius

Genius, sometimes uncontrollable... Hard aspects to Uranus, probably involving Mercury or the Sun

Depression, susceptibility to drug abuse... Moon hard aspects to Saturn and or Neptune

1851 also saw the last Uranus-Pluto conjunction

I propose something like this:

Ahem. Two words: Winston Churchill.
But in Sherlock's case, a lot of people seem to think you're right about an Aqua Mercury and/or Asc. complimenting the Cap Sun.

I'm wondering if the same birth date would apply to the character on the TV show though, since it only started in 2010.
Well the year would obviously need updating, but I suppose the January 6th part would remain valid. The character in the show is also about 20-25 years younger than the one in the books, which could explain some of the newer version's edginess. I imagine a personality that strong would need a long time to mellow out. But like Ellyn said, at the end of the day it is all just fiction so there's no harm in wild speculation.

^ Re: Churchill. Notice that Mercury & Pluto are both elemental singletons and opposite each other - which would explain the tendency toward depression (too much thinking, cynical/negative thoughts) and deep analytical thinking; Uranus squaring them both reinforces that tendency but also adds wit and intelligence (especially when it comes to social/political issues - 11H). Mercury is both the ruler of the AC and the MC thus making it very influential. The dude had some brains, no doubt.

Re: Sherlock.
The chart I posted makes sense to me personally.

Notice how Mercury conjuncts the asteroid Pallas, known as the problem-solver:

quote:
In astrology, the asteroid Pallas represents applied intelligence: the intersection between intellect and action; the ability to apprehend cause-and-effect and karma. To the mind she grants intellectual rigor, impartiality, and the ability to employ the mind in the manifest world. To the field of action she grants ethics, strategy, and methodology. In her full splendor she is the fierce protector of truth, logic, freedom, and peace; when she is compromised, soon follow deception, violence, tyranny, and war.
http://www.zot.net/pallas_notes.htm

I'll use GB's ideas here and add my own using the first chart:

Finding deeper meanings/detective work/death and murder... - Moon/Pluto conjunct (+8H, if we include the tob) & the trine to Mercury/Pallas (which allows an easy flow of mental connections, spontaneous mental processes that uncover the hidden meaning behind events)

Belief in the superiority of science to superstition... - The Earth influence; Mercury quincunx Saturn; Saturn in the 9H/ possibly Uranus in the 9H as well

Genius, sometimes uncontrollable... - Jupiter, ruler of Mercury/Pallas, in exact trine to Uranus; Mercury on the Galactic Center (!) ["The Galactic Center acts like a satellite dish, directing divinely inspired information straight to the potentially receptive gray matter of our brains. If you believe in God, this might be the voice you hear. Regardless, within this connection you have the ability to pull down wild information which you would otherwise have no way of knowing." ]http://www.zanestein.com/galactic_center.htm ]

Depression, susceptibility to drug abuse... - Moon/Pluto; 8H; Mars/Neptune opposition; Neptune square Nodes ( & possibly Venus/Saturn square, although wide)

Also:
Sun conjunct Chiron - the misfit, loner par excellence; with unique abilities but deep internal struggles.

Air void - emphasis on Air themes: thinking, making connections, objectivity, communication, the rational mind, etc.

---

Just some ideas. I'm not saying it's the final chart, but it's not too bad.

For me he's a Solar Libra or Aquarius (or Libra with Aqua Rising or Aqua with Libra rising) because: he had Watson, he was well know and liked wherever he went.
If he would be Libra for sure his Mercury would be in Scorpio. If he would be Aquarius his Mercury could be in Capricorn.
Sun/Saturn aspect.
he was a drug user because normal life was for him boring. Water house Stellium?
Some sagg?

Edit: Oh wait if he would be Solar Libra, his love live would be accented...

That is what I thought as well when I read this thread yesterday and figured someone would point it out.

Perhaps mercury in virgo in the 8th.

No, not too bad at all.
Actually your last post has had me thinking a lot about singletons and voids. I don't really have any in my natal chart which makes them an interesting if slightly foreign concept. This "Galactic Center" idea is also totally new to me. It looks really interesting from what I've read so far. I've been checking charts of well-known psychics (Edgar Cayce, etc.) looking for hits at 26 degrees Sagittarius but haven't really found anything noteworthy so far.
