If Jupiter is in charge of ethics, and higher thinking, Mars is in charge of war and taking action, what is the Sun in charge of? I know what the 5th house stands for but speaking of the Sun itself - what does it do?

I'm thinking sun represents our purpose (guided by Jupiter's ethics, asserted as defined by Mars, etc). But there was something unsatisfying about that answer to me so in trying to find something more definite I did a quick search and came across this short and sweet explanation that I thought was worth sharing:

So, Jupiter thinks. Mars does. The Sun lives. Interesting concept..

Sun is our conscious self and our ego. It is who we are consciously, whereas the moon is who we are subconsciously.

Yeah I've always understood it as the Sun is our core identity/ego... Yet mine is conujunct Neptune in 7th house so with NN there too I feel like part of my life "lesson" is to learn not to have an ego.

Yet I'd still say the Cap energy will shine through regardless of whatever else is going on in my chart... Like the backdrop of a canvass that the other planets or events/transits etc. can paint over but never really change, if anything their color is altered by the background. If that makes any sense lol

eta, I don't really agree that the moon is our subconscious. True it's our emotional filter but that can also be strongly tied to the ego... Maybe not if you're a Pisces moon or something lol but other than that idk.

What does it mean not to have an ego though? Like how do you balance not having an ego with self-respect (in my mind I'm thinking not having an ego means being vulnerable all the time, but if you're not getting the same in return and you walk away from it..isn't that ego?)

Jupiter brings the meaning and purpose for the Sun to express and exert it's will in a direction for Mars's drive to ultimately take action.

I get what you're saying and have wondered the same things. To me I guess it just means I can't define myself by the temporary and external things... Possessions, a job, social status, etc. Which doesn't mean I shouldn't care about those things, but there's a difference between self respect and entitlement I guess is how I see it.

If you're giving more than you know someone is willing/able to reciprocate and then expecting they'll do what you want... then it might be egotistical to begin with, but there's nothing wrong with walking away when someone promises more than they're willing to give. Again not sure if that makes any sense lol but that's my take on it at this point.
