This is a technique that I've been using lately, I have found it very, very telling. With this technique, you treat your natal house system as an entire Zodiac of its own, so your Ascendant becomes the new 0 Aries point for you.
Then you calculate the distance of each placement from the AC and give it a new Zodiac degree.
It is called an Oriental Chart, but House Positions, or maybe House Zodiac could work too. This is, essentially, a more precise calculation of your House placements. A planet might fall in your 2nd house, ie, but where exactly in the second house? This chart generates exact house placements.

Example:
Say your AC is 10 Cancer. You have Venus in the 1st house, at 20 Cancer. So your Venus is 10° forward from your AC --> it is 10 of Aries. Venus House Position = 10 Aries.

Your Sun is in the 9th house, at 20 Pisces. This makes it 70° away from your 10CAP DC. Since you're treating the DC as the new 0 Libra, you calculate your 0 Aries AC Sun to be at 10 Sag. Sun House Position = 10 Sag

When you're done with the calculation, check if there are any resonances between calculated and regular positions. Also, your new positions might explain a bit more about you.
Use the AC and DC as reference points to calculate, unless you're using Equal House system, of course.

In my chart, I have a Taurus Sun. This alone does not explain my interest in metaphysics and the occult and a lot of my personality. My Sun House Position is 0 Scorpio though, now THAT explains a lot.

It can even be applied to synastry. Using my chart as an example again, my Venus is at 8 Aries. The most important romantic relationship for me was with a man with his Mars at 22 Virgo. There is no major aspect there to explain the immense level of attraction. (there is a minor one)
When we apply the House Positions calculation, though, things makes sense, as my House Position Venus is at - 22 Virgo.

So check yours and tell me what you've found!

Just to clarify, do you add planets above the horizon to the 0 Libra DC and the planets below horizon to the 0 Aries ASC?

Yes! But Ceridwen found a much easier way. On astro.com, pick equal house system, and Huber house chart. When the chart generates, click on additional tables .pdf and you get a list of all your placements. They will be displayed on the right side of the table as, say 6°15', and the house will be written to its left. So if your placement is 6°15', house 4 - that's 6 Cancer.
