So if you were texting someone back and forward throughout tbe period it's possible to get the wrong idea about what they mean

Another big point here is Mercury retrograde natives (in birth chart) actually feel much more comfortable during retrograde periods and not so much outside of them (roughly 17% of the time though not sure about pre/post shadow periods). Also not to be ignored are pre and post shadow periods, it doesn't just stop and move backward on a dime, it has a stationary period which affects things and a "catch up" period where it moves back to its original position both to take note of.
