I just read this article today and I had an aha moment http://www.astro.com/astrology/in_dgthirdhouse_e.htm

Dana Gerhardt said 3rd house is about siblings and neighborhood, preceding the fourth house which is your home.

My sister has 3rd house in Pisces, I have it in Cancer. I definitely have a lot more attachment to my neighborhood and still have lots of people I want to visit till this day. My sister on the other hand is very piscean about it (dont know how to explain it better). She seemed to have moved on, seeing the neighborhood from a trans-personal viewpoint.

So I'm wondering if you all relate and if you can describe your neighborhood in accordance to your 3rd house...

Just wanna learn

I'd be interested to know what Virgo stands for in my third house. I've always had lovely neighbours that I've got on really well with. But I don't imagine that Virgo on the cusp would particularly point towards friendliness?? Your thoughts please?

Hi,
I would guess that you were probably very observant about what is going on in your neighborhood. Maybe you always know what is going on (Virgo wants to analyze), you might've tried to be helpful or your neighbors were helpful to each other. Virgo is also kinda distant, reserved and cautious. So you might not be overly involved. There's some hesitation/practical concerns about when you should be helpful with someone in your neighborhood.
But that's my guess ...

Yes. The third house represents younger childhood and how we grow up in our environment.

I think i have pluto in the 3rd. I find my neighbours annoying and overtly curious about what we do and constantly tries to "dig" some dirt up.I also can be a bit paranoid/suspicious about my neighbours and usually dont trust them. Its always some kind of a "witch" of a neighbour(s) we have around that secretly wants to find some dirt on me/us.Sometimes i feel like i am some sort of a "criminal" and my neighbours are the "cops in their sivil clothing" trying to "take" me down haha.

My 3rd is ruled by Libra/Venus and I also have Pluto in the 3rd and Jupiter.

I'd say my neighbors "watch me" but the funny thing is I don't pay them any attention and I pretty much keep to myself. People tell me they see me and my kids walking all the time. I'm very oblivious to what's going on around me as I could care less about what goes on in other people's houses. My mom raised me to mind my business and be careful who I let in my house. I guess that's a very plutonian paranoia thing? I'm still like that till this day lol

I grew up in the same neighborhood for 12yrs so I only really interacted with the people on my block. The neighbors to our right became my god parents and the neighbors to our left were my best friends and I had a lot of my childhood "first" with him..But as life would have it with a 4th house uranus and Scorpio and basically Sagittarius ruling it I live very far from my birth home and have not been back since we moved in 94.

Interesting question.

Scorpio/Sagittarius 3rd house. Moon w/ Neptune on the cusp.

Younger, I've always felt like everyone was part of an extended family. Of course I grew up in a neighborhood where there were no strangers. Everyone's grandparents went to the same school. The sort of place where if you liked someone you'd have to verify you weren't related. It was heaven on earth - the neighborhood. My household was another story, but outside was awesome - so many friendlies, so many open doors.

Older, I felt there was a lack of privacy, like it was impossible to have secrets. This bothered me. As an adult I live far away, but in contrast to my youth, I'm more private/reclusive/distant with my neighbors.

Sorta makes sense. Moon in the 3rd. 3rd house in pisces. neptune in the 12th house. My parents moved a lot, so I don't have many memories of the neighborhoods. I didn't pay much attention. Everything is a little hazy.

I got capricorn in 3rd house, along saturn, mars, venus, neptune, uranus ... yes a big stellium. I don't know, For me, my neighborhood nor my siblings are not an important part in my life, Actually those are the things I care less about, could it be saturn's influence there, though.

I have 3H (ie Gemini) Libra (Scorpio cusp) Sun, Merc, Venus, Saturn, and Pluto.

I was an only child but took a cousin for my older brother, emotionally speaking. My formative years was on several acres owned by extended family and the neighbors were practically like family so when I was taken somewhere more urban I sought that out, be it from that's how I was raised to my natal chart. When girls my age (or perhaps their parents) in my immediate area decided I couldn't be with them I switched over to the boys and was able to fit right in. And I tried to be fair.

For example, boys fight and some would fight me (and I'd fight back), but if I lost the fight they got no glory because I was a girl and if I won the fight the boy was teased for being beaten up by a girl, and to top it off I've seen both mothers and fathers tear into their son for hitting me. So I tried very hard to avoid fights as I felt it wasn't fair to them, but Libra isn't a spineless suck up for trying to be fair that others mistake us for and I demanded consideration...if they took advantage of my consideration I had no problem smacking them down and letting the chips fall where they may. I'll give others a fair shake but they damn well better do the same for me. That's what Libra is about...though admittedly my 5H (ie Leo) Sag Stellium (including Mars) probably gave me more fire to enforce that than most other Libras, and the Scorpio energy (Jupiter and asteroids all the way in as well as the cusp energies) probably helps, too.

(I understand my Sag Uranus is also why I generally found it easy to switch gears between boy world and girl world, feeling comfortable in both as long as they didn't go out of their way to give me a hard time.)

There have always been people I was able to get along well with and those who didn't like me for a variety of reasons. As the song goes, "Love me or hate me, it's still an obsession."

As an adult I've always reached out to neighbors and took care of it even when living in slums or an abandoned building. And there are those I get along well with, those I tolerate, and those I freeze out (or, if they insist, engage in conflict with, though so far they've always backed down and then so did I as I don't like drama messing up my community, that is those I interact with), and the reverse is pretty much true. So I'd say there's some harmony and I can see my planets (including Venus and Saturn) at work there as well as my sun. And I also like a variety of people which might be that the 3H is ruled by Gemini as well as Mercury, that is I wasn't into cliques. And I can switch between subcultures easily (not that I do that much anymore) and it was to the point that when I dressed for a different subculture someone from another subculture couldn't even recognize me.

Very interesting!

I think I'm gonna read charts a little bit differently from now on lol.

And PixieJane, that's insane.

My uncle also has a libra stellium with 2 planets in 3rd but no sadge influence. His pluto is in 4th so I guess the fight and power struggle you experienced don't apply.

Also look to the ruler and the aspects it makes to other planets.

I have Gemini on the 3rd house cusp with Mercury as the ruler.Do I feel sentimental about my neighborhood? No.

But I get concerned with all the littering that goes on.I even get angry at someone whom i see do it

My relationship with my siblings is fine. But my sister is very argumentative and temperamental at times(she has Mars in Gemini/Uranus in Sag opposition). So it can get near impossible to avoid a disagreement with her.

My Mercury(ruler of 3rd)squares Mars.

The power struggle came mostly from girls, the boys pretty much left me out of theirs. Note, I was primarily speaking of ages 6-10 when I wasn't allowed to play with girls in my neighborhood (not sure if the girls decided that or their parents). Boys at that age, at least in Texas back in the 80s, tend to be rambunctious who won't shy from a fight, and at that age about the same size as a girl and more prone to accepting a girl who plays with them frequently as one of the boys, hence I got into scraps with them as they did with each other (at least until the older kids and adults made it clear I was to be treated different), but it was very rare that it was anything serious.

If you're actually referring to after I grew up then yes, I can see Pluto involved...but there were other factors as well. One was a neighborhood where white people weren't particularly welcome and I was white (though plenty overlooked that) and another was a wannabe gated community with very conservative values that didn't like me being in a lesbian relationship with the mother of 2 children which also set off power struggles (yet I still got along with plenty).

I also hate littering among other things. I cleaned a lot of that up but what really annoyed me was when I got anonymous notes on my door telling me where something needed to be cleaned up.

I even saw mothers let their kids play over jagged glass who said it was "someone else's responsibility" (and they'd figure out who to sue if they had to take their kid to the hospital). And so on and on. I don't know why many people are content to live in a trash heap.

@PixieJane: I think childhood means from 0-14 or something like that... But even in adulthood, I do get attached to the neighborhood/community more. So I guess 3rd house applies. I don't really know for sure. I think you have so much more than pluto in 3rd, and the saturn does apply to the conservative values/restriction

I wanted to point out that I am wondering if my 3H stellium contribute to why I often communicate with my neighbors (Mercury), find importance in community (Sun), develop friendships easily with some (Venus) and antipathy with others who test me (Saturn) that often have a transformative effect on me (Pluto, which could also strengthen the like/antipathy).

I am REALLY (!) confused with my 3H Scorpio!! NN and Uranus are there, opposite Jupiter.

I have no contact, and have never met, my brother....I don't necessarily care too much about my immediate neighborhood as I don't like nosy people nor having neighbors too close....and I also don't like doing shopping too close to home. I DO like communication; written or spoken, and I analyze words and construction of sentences. Is that all there is to my 3H?? All my life I have felt a need to get AWAY from my immediate surroundings and set up shop elsewhere, preferably across the globe, but maybe that is my lesson to learn? To not run away?

Well, Jupiter is in 9th I suppose? So you are definitely interested in going away for learning/expansion. North Node is what is uncomfortable to you. Your SN is in another place, not your neighborhood.

Plus uranus is very individualistic. You would understand uranian energy more than I do but it's not stable and it can be triggered by anything that causes the native to feel suffocated, or smothered, ...

ALl of this is in Scorpio. Scorpio is the worst thing for a Uranian person because scorpio neighborhood would be controlling, manipulative. Maybe there are lots of secrets and manipulative tactics.

If i remember correctly, you have uranus squaring your personal planets so the impulse comes suddenly, almost from external sources ...

I have Cap on my 3rd but it's empty. However, I feel exactly the same as you about my siblings and neighbors.

I have Virgo in the 3rd house too. However, I have always had 'neutral' neightbours. I had friendly and nasty ones from time to time, but most of the time, we did not have much contact. May be it's because I don't really seek it too... I don't think the sign in which your house falls tells a lot about them, but rather the planets which are in the 3rd house.
