I study the history and culture of our native people, and also practice Shamanic Journeying (I do journeywork for people as well).I find the mirror of the Sacred Hoop with the angles of our Zodiac to be extremely interesting. Here is what I am referring to for people who aren't familiar with the Sacred Hoop or Medicine Wheel. Now the colors will vary between tribes, in addition to the meanings. However it can be interpreted at many levels (just like our zodiac wheel). It indicates cycles, elements, the progression of a soul, etc.
Does anyone know if someone "out there" has compared the Medicine Wheel with the Zodiac? Or if there is an astrologer that has done this comparison or uses this in their readings? If not, maybe I need to be that person! HA!
I did see "Medicine Wheel Astrology" when I started Googling around, but it's not quite what I'm going for. In my work with animal allies and native teachings, the animals in relation to the individual's Medicine Wheel is VERY personal, and should be assigned by the Supernatural realm to the seeker directly (they work their own hoop) or through a practiced Shaman/Healer/etc. who assists the seeker in making these connections (which is my line of work). Someone may have Raven at the south, and Butterfly at the north. It's totally personal.
I think I really want to study a comparison of how the Zodiac explains soul progression overall, breaking down it's symbolism and cycles, and how the Medicine Wheel does the same. However "elements" are grouped in the MW while in the ZW they form a trine. So each quadrant contains a combination of at least 3 elements.
In the zodiac, would each quadrant connect to a particular element in the same way? For example, 1st Quadrant Fire, 2nd Quadrant Water, 3rd Quadrant Air, and 4th Quadrant Earth? I only come up with that considering the natural ruler of the first house in that quadrant (ex. Aries is the 1st house in the 1st quadrant, Cancer is the 1st house in the 2nd Quadrant, and so on).
I think it would be really interesting to do a reading where you lay the individuals natal on top of the Medicine Wheel.
