I read an article about celebrities who are atheists (you can find it here: http://www.foulgal.com/10-celebrities-didnt-know-atheists/2/) and I spotted a couple of Aries on the list. Sure, there are also some Sags and Geminis, as expected, and even though I knew this was a relatively small sample of people, I got interested in Aries Suns in particular, so I decided to invastigate it a bit further. As it turned out, the most prominent atheist thinkers of our time (Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennett and Sam Harris, popularly called The Four Horsemen of New Atheism) are all Aries Suns!

So, ok, I know Aries are supposed to be more liberal, freedom-lovign and individual-oriented than other Sun signs, so it actually makes sense for them to fight against religion and its rules. But does it mean that Aries Suns would be attracted to atheism more than other Sun signs? What do you think?

Aries is the sign most likely to tell me,

"I have my own beliefs"

"I don't believe in that"

"I don't want to know"

Or flat out lie about their sign.

Often I snap back, "I'm not trying to convert you to anything, just want to know what energy I'm dealing with."

...but the ALWAYS know they're an Aries.

I don't know... I'm pretty sure lots of aqua, sags are atheist. We just don't go out of our way to be defiant about it because we respect other viewpoints about religions.

I will never criticize other religions as fundamentally bad and I think religions will be around for a long time.

There are plenty of other atheists in other signs who prefer to spend their life focusing on something else because the religion debate is pointless and unnecessary... No one is gonna prove anything

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. If you believe in God, you acknowledge that there is a force greater than you running the show, and I can see how that could be problematic for some Aries . Aries Suns like to think for themselves and do what they want to do, so religions can be seen as dogmatic and oppressive.

Sags can swing either way. They can be quite religious, but then, on the other hand, they can be passionate about atheism, or new age, or anything else, and I think they are definitely more interested in any sort of belief system than other signs. Aquas can be surprisingly traditional when it comes to religion, I've seen it many times.

And I agree with you, discussing religious beliefs is unproductive. It's a good thing we're discussing astrology

Yes, they can. I have an Aqua with and Aqua Moon in my family and she's too religious.

Would you include Anton LaVey? I'm not sure if he was serious about Satanism or if his "religion" was entirely parody.

Dawkins has a Pisces moon possibly, Pisces Mercury and Venus w/ NN conjunct Neptune. I think he was motivated to get religious dogmatists off the backs of the poor heathens.

Dawkins' birthday is the day after the shared birthday of two authors I LOVE: Joseph Campbell and Dane Rudhyar. I think the proximity to the Pisces-Aries Cusp gives them a bit of carry-over from Pisces wisdom.

I find Hitchens a bit harder to stomach, what with his big Aries stellium and my Cap sun. I don't know Daniel Dennett and Sam Harris.

My 9H Jupiter Aries sympathizes with many of the atheists' points, though. As I was just saying on this thread the other day.

I'm not an atheist, I know enough to know I can't rule out some kind of God, but I would rather ride on their bandwagon than any religious one, if I had to choose.

My Aqua brother sounds like a religious zealot but the more you quiz him on his beliefs, the more his ideas sound like generic spirituality.

I've had particular issues with the first two.

To me, their arguments are based primarily on calling people stupid than any reasoned point.

Personally, I never take an Aries critique on any intellectual or abstract subject seriously.

True for me. Though technically I'm an agnostic.

#Aries Sun, Saturn in the 9th.

Gnosticism appeals to me powerfully.

Sun in the 9th, Moon in Sagittarius.

Well, yes, it all comes down to that. They are Aries after all, no room for subtlety

Ironically, although my beliefs are not atheism, and I've somehow gotten a reputation around here as a radical Christian. Nearly everyone I know (my family and friends) are either atheist or agnostic.

Anyway, these people range in all kinds of different signs. I have a few Pisces friends this way, Taurus, Leo, Aries, Cap, Aqua, Gemini, etc. You get the point. Different charts.
I haven't really noticed a pattern.
I knew an Aries who was a devoted Christian, a Gemini, a Pisces, etc.

My best friend of many many years (Virgo sun, Gemini Moon conjunct mine, Aqua rising) HAAAAAATES Christianity in particular. He can't freakin' stand it. Athiest overall... really doesn't believe in anything. You die and then you're worm food would sum it up.
His mom is Scorpio, very religious. (Christian).
His Grandmother was Aries and the same. She pressured us to go to church, gave us Bibles, etc.

My mom is Aries and she just really doesn't talk about it. I know she doesn't want anyone telling her about it. Whew she gets mad. LOL

Well, he wasn't really an atheist, he believed in something supernatural, whatever that was. But to some extent, he was similar to the four Aries I mentioned, because he obviously had some religious issues, so you definitely made your point there.

Dawkins, especially does that. However, would you say the same about Kant (not taking him seriously)?

^^I'm guessing he's an Aries too.

Not too familiar with him, but the name conjures up positive memories. Was he the one who said; civilization/democracy cant be imposed on people, they must want it, that's the only way such things can work in a society??

As an Aries... all these are surely prone to flying out of my mouth. Not about religion in particular, but all things in general. I will come to my *own* conclusion about most things.

I am Christian, though!

I'm an Aries.

I'm not attracted to atheism AT ALL. I know that there is a power much higher than I that created me and that guides me to reach my destiny. I'm definitely a "believer".

However...I am not a religious, dogmatic nutcase either! I'm both traditional AND progressive. I will not allow anyone to force me into a box just for the hell of it. I'm me, I'm happy, a free-spirited child of God.

Yep.

Aries Sun here.

I'm Secular and lean toward Deism, I don't like Atheism not appealing to me also lacks evidence (you need way more than the estimated age of our universe for chances and mutations to make something cool like us).

Generally I believe in doing good to the world because its the right thing.

I respect all religions as long as they don't harm other peoples rights.

I don't think Aries is more prone to it, but they are more prone to trumpet it. I've been around religious Aries who trumpet their religious values in the same way Dawkins trumpets his atheism.

I think Aries is not very attracted to anything that is controlled and structured.. like organised religion.
But generally, they have spiritual beliefs.

It makes sense Aries would be atheists. They are all about their own being, their actions, their thoughts. They are who they are because they want to be, not because they're following an order of any kind (at least not one they didn't approve of.) In short, they are independent.

Plenty of religious people aren't following anyone else or even the rules of the religion, rather they're following their own ego which they call God (or equivalent) which they feel validates their own values and self above that of others and excuses them from having to justify anything because "it's my religion" (when actually it's just their ego, personal prejudices, etc). Of course Aries can be very loyal which can manifest in supporting a church (as long as that church backs the Aries). Obviously, other placements would factor in as well.

I'm sure we've all met those sad people who forever rend their garments over being a vile sinner or otherwise not living up to their religious ideals (not to be confused those playing a macho like game of "holier than thou by the most self-flagellation") but I have yet to meet an Aries like this.
