how close is the opposition?
People with moon/mars aspect tend to have temper. And with the way he brought up, there is pretty good chance that he might have anger issue. Did he ever been violent to someone?

his step dad clearly sore object for him. Is that his exact words? Okay, this is only speculation, please take it with a grain of salt. His wording somewhat implied deep resentment. it reminds me of survival of child abuse. Do you think it possible that his step dad abused him? Doesn't have to be physical abuse, it can be mental abuse like mocking and belittle him, yell at him, make him feel not good enough. Also if he treated differently from the other sibling (the step dad's kid), that can cause resentment. More often mental abuse leave the deepest wound. Again this only speculation.
Either way, when it comas to his step dad, you need to treat it really carefully. Dont make it sound like you judge him. He had a reason to not accept his step dad, and whatever it is, whether it's right or wrong, we're not the one to judge.
I think he need someone who strong, understanding, and patience. Do you think you like him enough to be that woman? It going to be bumpy ride with him,.

I would say just leave him alone if he starts to get irritated - example, don't push too much about his step dad.

I have the square and I'm not violent - can be but I really have to be pushed very very much. It's rare.

So all I'm saying is he could be, but it's not automatic. He may not be. But a temper is more of a sure thing. Just leave him alone if he's upset. Be there, but let him talk if he wants, or change subject if he wants. Just don't push him to talk about it confront things that he doesn't want to.

Could be possessive either by nature, his chart... Or the unstable environment that he grew up in. He could forcefully try to ensure that it's stable by trying to take total control of it.

But you'll know best. Nothing is guaranteed.

Well it doesn't have to be the step dad, it could be the man in his mom's life before or could be an uncle or father figure, something like that. Even full grown adult can be abused, and contrary to popular belief, men also can be victim on domestic violence. But back to your guy again, this is only speculation. It might be not the case at all.
Pisces in general I believe had soft heart and very trusting (before other walk all over it), I think this would applied to pisces moon as well. But circumstances make them jaded. If I remember correctly, you're as pisces sun, right? So you can relate to that. I think you can easily understand each other really well, especially if his sun conjunct your moon.
