Is it indicated in the chart? Is it not? Besides the fact that I have so much crap to get done, I can't seem to sleep. The idea of sleeping just isn't... Appealing to me. I'm not an insomniac but I just feel this way tonight. So... It got me thinking about insomniacs and what in the chart could pinpoint to that.

Thanks!

HYPNOS (14827) and SOMNIUM (3258) are great to look into. They can be very helpful in this. Obviously in connexion to MOON, NEPTUNE, IC and 12R.

I think sleep is 12th house-subconscious stuff. So in order for a person to sleep there must be stillness; no anxiety,no fear,no excitement, no deep thoughts.Just peace.

With all that said,i would say that there could be a number of factors that prevent someone from sleeping. Each indicated by certain aspects i.e

Anxiety and fear could be a Moon in 1st house by transit/natal position or an afflicted Moon.

Excitement could be Mercury,Uranus,Mars in 1st house by transit or natal or afflicted Mercury,Mars and active Uranus

Deep thoughts could be Jupiter/Pluto in 1st house/by transit or Jupiter/Pluto in aspect to personal planets.

Mostly though for consistent patterns of being unable to settle down- Mercury,Mars ,Uranus,Jupiter and Pluto are usually involved.

That being said, the mental houses 3rd,7th ,8th,9th and 11th are usually active.

With 11th and 7th,especially when Jupiter/Pluto/Uranus/Mercury/Mars are there, the individual usually keeps others awake too-through fierce debating and asking relentless questions.

I know an Aries person who can only sleep around 1/2 am- no matter the day of the week.

His Moon is already in the excitable 1st house and enjoys a square aspect with Uranus.

His Mercury is in the deep-thinking and forever contemplating 8th house enjoying an opposition from active Mars.

He has Pluto,Saturn and Mars in 2nd. The house of security.

With Pluto/Mars there, he feels secure when he is active and alert(Mars and Pluto). This could be physically or mentally.

Pluto in 2nd often suggests someone who's security blanket rests in investigating mysterious things and finding answers to questions deeply pondered.

He likes company too, Venus is in 7th, to bat off ideas on. But i always make sure that I get drunk when with him.

My T-square(Moon,Mercury,Mars)in cardinal reacts to most of his personal planets and I didn't know this the time we became friends.

We stayed up until 4am talking about a whole bunch of stuff!! I showed up late for work the next day because I could not get up.

He on he other hand, was on time

According to this website:

Astrologically speaking, 3 Planets are responsible for providing sound sleep. They are...

Mercury – as it governs the brain nerves
Moon – as it controls the mind, heart and stomach
Jupiter – as it rules over liver and lungs

So, maybe check for t.Moon-Uranus, t.Mercury-Uranus, etc.? Since Uranus can be spontaneous activity, irregular electric energy etc.

All great stuff!

I couldn't sleep either. (Partly my shoulder hurts)
But I've suffered for years with being unable to sleep.
Merc/mars conjunction (12) square Gemini moon.
Merc/mars also trine Jupiter

In your case, I'd say that Gemini moon is buzzing, unfortunately.

I've found that using a sleep aid combined with setting the alarm for early has helped me get tired more naturally. For me when I went to first shift it really helped.
But sometimes on nights such as you must be having, nothing helped. Mind just spins out of control.

I agree with the answers given.

Overstimulated mercury I would think is number one. I saw your chart.
You have Gemini moon, square mercury like I do, but throw Pluto in there and it's hard to let go of some thoughts.
My mars just acts like the power plant and won't let mercury shut down.

A book I have, so I'm just following it...
It says sleep is ruled by 12th, Neptune, Pisces, moon, Pluto. (Idk why and it doesn't explain - only lists)

It says sleeplessness is mercury as we all have been saying and also Aries for... Idk why.
Insomnia, mercury, Pluto, Aries

But with your mercury and square Gemini moon... Oh yeah. I can see it. And your mercury tied to Venus. Maybe that plays a role in it also.
It makes sense for you.
I may not be helping though, if you're smelling what I'm laying down. Sorry if that's the case.

@Aubyanne

I have Somnium conjunct my IC, opposite Pluto. Hypnos inconjunct my 12th ruler. I wouldn't say that I am clinically an insomaniac but I do have insomaniac tendencies. I don't have a problem falling asleep when I really want to escape but I usually have to exhaust myself before I do whenever I go to sleep. I can become rather fixated with staying awake when I'm focused on something.

Maybe I am insomniac then... Hmm... I guess other people seem to force themselves to sleep. I don't try until I can no longer keep my eyes open.

@Aries23 Thank you for the wealth of information. I have a lot of what you've listed, actually...

pMoon in the 1st
Mercury and Mars in the 1st
Jupiter sq Mars
Pluto sq Sun and Mercury
I don't have any planets in the houses you mentioned, (except Jupiter in the 9th) But the rulers of 3rd, 7th, 8th, and 9th are all in the 1st.

Funny story that you showed up late and he didn't! There were times where I slept no earlier than 5-6 AM and there was a good month where I slept at 8-9AM. And the latest I've ever slept was 4 or 5PM once... No matter how late I sleep (in the house between 5-8) I will wake up at 11AM or 12PM at most. I'm a super light sleeper as well, I rarely ever need alarms but I use them just to be on the safe side and always end up waking up before they go off. Hehehe, your friend and I have something in common.

@SS Thanks for sharing, babe. nUranus and tUranus are doing nothing in my chart at the moment. Actually, it sextiles Moon and Mars. Hmm... Explains it.

@DF Woops, sorry you couldn't sleep... I know it sucks. I can see so much how your placements attribute to this, given what Aries23 and SS just stated.

Yes, DF, my Gemini Moon was buzzing and churning relentlessly last night...

If you have issues waking up (this is for everyone), there's this amazing app that wakes you up within a 30 minute margin of when you set your alarm for. So... If you set it at 8, it'll wake you up any time 7.30-8. Why it does that is because it tries to wake you up when you aren't in REM stage which is the most uncomfortable and exhausting time to wake up. It detects your body movement and if it senses motion, that's when it wakes you up because it means that you're in a phase of light sleep. So when you wake up, you feel refreshed and not beaten down. It even shows you a chart recording your sleep so you can see how well or poorly you slept. It only works on apple, I have it on my iPad. I'll get the name for you guys when I'm home. It's a lifesaver.

Yes, I definitely have an over-stimulated Mercury LOL. It is square Moon by sign but not by aspect (thank goodness). I agree with the Pluto remark, having it on my Mercury I can see why and how that works. Mars must be relentless on your Mercury, DF. That's no surprise, LOL!

Thanks for taking time to share what you found. I have Neptune in the 12th. Pisces well... That's no mystery! And very strong links to my 12th house via the ruler. Thank you for the info. I think Moon/Venus augments my laziness which makes it worse because I'm not really sleeping but I'm not doing any productive either. Sigh. You were of help, I appreciate it!

Thank you everyone for sharing... I will check out my friends' charts who I know have very odd sleeping habits.

I know, I really messed something up in that shoulder!

I was thinking probably any mercury/moon combo can probably have trouble depending on what stimulated it earlier that day, etc.

Anyway, better sleep tonight!

Oh!
Our thread "mysteriously" lost over 100 posts! While others didn't.
Well that's odd.

Ooh, hope your shoulder gets better!!! And yes, my eyes are super sore. Thankfully, I don't have class tomorrow so I can rest well.

AND YEAH... That's really creepy... IDK...

EDIT: So if you try to go from pg 1 to pg 2, it ends there. If you go directly to page 5 and work backwards, all the posts are there. Very weird. It does show the last "post" was at 2:22 PM?

Hmm... Maybe they'll reappear. I still only see pg 2 but you see pg 5.
Maybe our intuitive conversation glitched the system.

Yeah, now it's only pg. 2! Sigh... I posted asking what happened. But if it did, well, guess what, that's awesome! I'll be sure to embed some of my posts with a hidden meaning you could pick up intuitively. Seeing that... communicating explicitly seems to attract all kinds of "glitches"

Wow! Awesome. My best friend is a Moon-Pluto gal and she certainly has lots of sleep problems. She went on for like 3 years sleeping at 7am and waking up at 3pm or so.

I will try to smile on, even if it's a broken smile. Everything in life is fleeting. At least that's how I experience the world.
