What aspects and planet placements do you think would make someone very obsessed with their appearance? Or would make them get plastic surgery and/or constantly undergo different procedures whether it be through surgery or just many "homemade" beauty rituals because they feel like they can never love themselves naturally? Venus/Chiron, especially hard aspects. I am a little like this (I have the sextile) but my friend has the square. She is a pretty woman, but she is super insecure. She is pale and can't tan but goes tanning constantly. She keeps her hair bleach blond and is always talking about how much better I look than her and how jealous she is. She always asks me if I think she's pretty all the time. She is a Leo with Leo rising an comes off as full of herself, but when you talk to her you realize she is so insecure. IP: Logged |

Something with Virgo? I know some Virgos that nitpick on little details of appearance. Either they perfect themselves or crave a partner with flawless beauty. I could be wrong; something else in the chart could be the culprit. IP: Logged |

i have a friend with a libra stellium, and a libra asc. libra venus in the 7th. she is soooo vain. constantly fishes for compliments and brings attention to herself all the time. "do i look good today?" "did you see my new shoes/bag/hairstyle?" she is very pretty though, so at least she's worth looking at IP: Logged |

Given how beauty is the only thing worth having for most women (everything else secondary at best), sometimes their only power of note, I think this is a general trait of women, any female once she enters puberty (especially if she does earlier than most of her peers). Most women magazines would seem to endorse that view by their content as well. But as for being super extreme...the only one I can truly think of without a doubt was a great aunt of mine but all I know is that she was born on May 8 (can't recall the year), and thus Taurus which I'd have thought would have had better sense than that. She was big on the hair and makeup and what made her extreme is that when she worked outside she put on A LOT of makeup to protect her from the sun (because people with dark skin obviously had to work for a living and even though she obviously did she still wanted to look rich, pale, and useless) and as the Texas heat melted off her makeup she'd go reapply it even if it meant going back in every 5-10 minutes to do so! And she didn't assert herself, was sensitive to how people saw her, and was insecure, though I think genuinely sweet (some insecure people can be cruel to others to feel better about themselves but she never did that as far as I know). I'll see if I can discretely find more info on her though I'm not sure I can learn more about her birthday other than her year of birth, especially as she's dead now. My mom saw looks as power which she used ruthlessly against men and women both, but I'm not sure she counts as she wouldn't think she'd need surgery, at least not back when she was a model (and aspiring to be one). Maybe now she might, if she had the money, but I don't know. But in the past she starved herself and did all sorts of unpleasant things to watch her figure and then endured degrading abuse to be a model. Hers wasn't born of insecurity (at least not what others thought of her, in fact if others hated her that was good because it assured her that she had power over them) but rather was an issue of power, keeping score, and revenge...and that I CAN see of someone with as much Scorpio and Leo as her, one whose astrological energy had been badly poisoned. I have a Libra stellium but this does not apply to me...but then unlike many girls I found other avenues of self-esteem for which I'm eternally grateful. Mom did try to make me insecure about my looks but she failed, mainly because I never wanted to go through the degrading abuse she did as a model or be dependent on a man (even if I supposedly had power over him). But there was a girl I went to high school with born on the same day as me (the only possible difference is our ASC and houses) and she was very concerned with her appearance...not insane about it but she did spend a lot of time on herself, used plenty of accessories, and was upset if anything messed up her hair, nails, or clothes (but then given the time and expense she no doubt put into it I can see why, that is it might not be strictly a body image issue). I'm going to go ahead and say hard Aphrodite/Chiron aspects, maybe with Scorpius (as obsession), Leo (as the best), Poseidonas (as delusion) or MC in there. Then somewhere I read Pallas/Aphrodite aspects can show using your beauty as a weapon.------------------ I call the planets by their Greek names. I have a Virgo stellium at first house, including Sun, Venus, Lilith and NN; they all conjunct each other with ASC.Saturn is at the first house too, but widely conjunct NN (about seven degrees) I hate makeup, just done once because need to take those pics. I have no impatience spending so much time on make-up. I prefer nature appearance. I also don't like wearing high-heeled shoes and am never interested in jewelries. IP: Logged |

One of my uncles is like that. He had his nose done but he is also extremely obsessed with other people's appearances as well. Like he treats a person better or likes the person more of he or she looks good. Even my friends are aware of this. I was with a friend a few days ago and we were in our casual daily clothes, and we ran into my uncle. After we parted she told me I wish I dressed better today because your uncle treats me a lot better when I look good. He is a freindly person in general but he really changes his behavior according to the other person's looks. And it doesn't matter ,if that person is a male or female. My cousin ( his son) didn't put anything sweet in his mouth until he went to university, he was afraid of gaining weight because of his father. He is an aquarius, I don't have his TOB at the moment but I can post the chart.IP: Logged |

I am way too vain and it is not a good thing. I have a grand trine of Venus, Chiron and the ASC. I never thought of Venus/Chiron being this but it makes a LOT of sense.

I tend to obsess over my appearance but it's about the things I perceive as flaws. It can get quite extreme. I've considered plastic surgeries, had an eating disorder, etc. Virgo ASC + Libra Moon square Saturn + strong Saturn. Baaad mix. I can dislike/hate pretty much anything about my body. I really hope I die in my 60s at the latest, I don't know if I could handle being more defective than that (I don't have in mind my looks only).------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. Taurus is ruled by Venus and most Taurus girls I've ever met or known are pretty and attractive physically so this isn't really surprising. IP: Logged |

^^Being attractive and being obsessed as my great aunt was are two different things. Though most Taurus women (and many men) have been attractive to me as well, but in a more earthy and natural way as well as typically choosing comfort & class (the dignified kind) over (pop) style & name brand. I've also read Taurus is comfortable on the farm and thus the farm is the exception to the rule to unpleasantness Taurus likes to avoid, but that wasn't the case for my great aunt. It would be interesting to see her chart and know more of her life (another call to Granny is in the cards for me...) IP: Logged |

Thank you all for replying! Venus/Chiron can play a role in this. I don't have an aspect between the two in my natal chart, but a Venus conjunct Chiron transit in my experience brings a temporary dose of very low self-esteem. Transiting outer planets in hard aspect to the Sun or ASC sometimes evoke a similar feeling except with those transits you're more inclined to do something about it. What I find interesting is when it comes to a preoccupation with appearance, everyone mentions Venus and Libra. However, on the topic of obsession, I think it is best to also mention Pluto on the first house angle. I say that because I have it there and it makes more sense to obsess and strive to control every aspect of your body and appearance since Plutonians try so hard to control everything around them. One of my closest friends is a Virgo sun with a opposition between Venus and Saturn. She's VERY detail oriented and crazy about looking good in public. I think her Venus-Saturn opposition makes her feel insecure. She has a hard time in love because she's afraid to open up and she KNOWS that, yet she'll still assume men don't want her because she isn't perfect. It's sad. IP: Logged |
