I was just reading Balzac and started contemplating about it. The word maturity wasn't explicitly mentioned (at least in that particular paragraph), but I noticed the bias he has towards some characters, obviously because of their greater maturity, among other characteristics, according to his subjective value hierarchy. So I figured, of course is one's definition of maturity purely subjective and since this is something I've lately been indirectly thinking about and am not able to figure my own firm definition, I am asking you guys: what is maturity in your opinion?... To encourage your brain flow: what kind of person you perceive as mature? Have you ever though about it, do you tend to label people as mature/immature? the characteristics mature people have? etc. And please state your placements which you think contribute to your view on maturity And while you're on it you can also add placements of a (hypothetical) mature person, but I'm more keen on knowing your natal placements. I'll be contemplating and forming my own definition through your answers. One thing that I'm completely sure is that in my book, old age and lots of experience don't equal maturity. I think I've got quite an unusual view on it, just can't put my finger on it. So, let the debate begin IP: Logged |
