I dont know if i am the one that is a bit too fast or if it is them that are a bit too slow for my air mercury but i have noticed they can be a bit too slow in giving back responses/reactions/answers and can be a bit slow in their communication style and i have also noticed that they also tend to like to talk about studies/work/money etc. I have noticed more and more now how good it is to have compatible mercury signs because i honestly can find it a bit boring in the long haul to sit and only talk about work/studies etc, sometimes i wish i had an earth mercury because i have noticed it makes a person think about how to secure their future and they also tend to be really good in school etc but its just boring to me, i like to talk about astrology and spiritual stuff more. But do earth mercuries tend to be slow in their thinking/communication style or might it be something else in the peoples chart i have experienced this from that might point to this?

I guess it all depends on "context" = house and aspects.
I have Mercury in Cap in the 9th house, in conjunction to Uranus and Neptune, and in sextile to Pluto.
I can talk about pretty much anything.
I'm also a very good listener, even when I'm not interested in what you're saying.

Are you also good at small-talking with random people for a long time? At parties, with colleagues, on the street, stuff like that?

The only thing I have noticed especially with earth mercuries is that they are not the greatest small-talkers.. they talk kinda short from the head. Or maybe it's just because I am a libra mercury and not really fit with earth mercury. Whenever I talk with other air mercury and sometimes fire mercuries, we can go on for hours. I find it more easy to talk with compatible mercuries... I am not the greatest talker myself, but together with someone who is, I get very very talkative also.

My best friend is a scorpio mercury though, and good lord how we can talk! Even though we haven't got any special mercury contacts in synastry either :S

I can be if I want to, but I usually don't like talking to people I don't know. Probably because I don't know what they're about.
I have a Leo friend with Mercury in Virgo who can talk to anyone, even when she doesn't like them.
She has a Libra Mars, which explains to me why she'd rather pretend nothing's happened between her and the people she dislikes than to confront them.
I'm always like: "So why do you talk to them if they did/do this and that to you??????"
I will never understand this.

My Cap Mercury simply hates to waste time.

Not me. I think Mercury in Virgo is pretty mentally quick, especially since mine is trine Uranus. I think Taurus and Capricorn Mercury are the slower ones. And I don't mean in terms of intelligence, of course. I'm talking about how they take a bit more time to come to conclusions or reasoning.

And I think Capricorn Mercury will probably be least interested in small talk. That's the definition of that placement, I feel: only wanting to talk about things they feel are productive.

Virgo Mercury, in my experience, is different. It's the most talkative Earth Mercury. Sort of like Gemini Mercury, just much more focused in conversation and grounded in thinking. But, I find it easy to talk about almost anything, so long as it interests me. And I find a lot of things interesting.

Yep. Things and people. If the conversation won't lead me anywhere, what's the point?!

Haha I understand you completely, but I also understand the opposite approach. It's important to communicate, even with the people you don't like. It's just easier being in the same room with them.. and just because people dislike each other, why can't they talk?

I used to work with a lot of different people. I never knew their charts, but I could sure feel the difference between 2 girls that I didn't like both of them. With one we was awkwardly silent, never said a word to each other. The other one was very talkative and we actually had a good time, though we didn't like each other at all, had our completely different opinions. But I think maybe it was just our mercuries and our nature that told us it was more interesting to just talk, and more boring to just not talk at all...

This i also do and that is why i find it a bit boring to "talk" with someone that has an earth mercury because usually i am the one that tend to "sacrifice" what i am passionate about talking about and listen to what they are passionate about.

Amazing thinkers but slower, more direct communicators. Virgo Mercuries definitely do speak in endless metaphors and similes but are still very direct speakers. What I like about Earth Mercuries is that they come up with exceptional theories and analyses despite taking years to complete their project.

Interesting observation, Dreaminess! Hope you've been well, pretty lady!

I'm Virgo mercury (conjunct mars, trine Jupiter, square moon, in 12th)

Actually, I'm a quick thinker a lot of the time but also a slow communicator a lot of the time. (Not ALL of the time)
How it FEELS on my end is like someone saying, "OK Mr Virgo mercury. Here's a 6 page report. I want you to make it two pages but make sure that people can still understand it." (Which seems like 90% of the time people don't understand me anyway)
Thus, as said the metaphors come out.

At work, (troubleshooting complex automation and mechanical). I'll figure things out that others don't. They actually know much more than I do but are so quick to eliminate things. I'll stand and look at it for a little while, run the sequence in my head and come to a conclusion. They just get in a hurry.

If I'm being goofy and teasing then I can be a witty, quick thinker and speaker.
