Im not talking about just any shmuck on stage, but someone who is good with presenting, diverting awkward situations and turning them humorous, can make someone feel comfortable and open them up.

Im thinking of people like Ryan Seacrest, Chris Harrison (the Bachelor series), and my personal favorite (even though he's fictional, I still love his style) Caesar Flickerman (The Hunger Games)
