I think the sign your Mars is in will decide how competitive you will be
aries vs Pisces aries, imo, will have a little more fire under the rear

But what roll do the houses play?

Could 1st house be competitive in beauty pagents
(Generalizing example)

I know Venus will play a roll with the passion

In sports I like playing in a team and playing a role catching the gaps - defensive but stepping up in attack when the central players are flagging, disheartened. This is kind of the inner frame that forms the competitiveness in me, otherwise it's sporadically there.

Mars in Leo, 9th (heart to belief)
Sun in Taurus, 6th (serving, behind the stage type of role)

Venus in taurus, 7th (others)

Not in sports I think the 9th doesn't represent what I'm competitive about but the ruling sign house of the 5th does as it houses my mercury

I always like to simplify it by saying the sign is what the planet is expressing and the house is how that's being expressed/where it's being directed.

So, a 1st House Mars, basically, aggressively (Mars) takes on the role (1st House) of the sign. Libra Mars in the 1st will aggressively pursue the mediator position. 1st House Cancer Mars will be very assertive in their need to nurture, defend, and protect others, etc., etc.

I'm not particularly competitive, probably because I have a 5H Sag stellium (with Mars). 5H is about creativity and recreation so I see my athletic hobbies as leisure rather than Serious Business, and I compete against myself more than anyone else...I certainly don't want to be tied down to teams and schedules that would transform my leisure into WORK.

In role playing games I see it as those of us involved creating a story TOGETHER. I got into conflicts over that with other players who saw the point as to win rather than create a story whereas I'd act in character even when it was obviously going to turn out bad (such as not letting my character take into account what my character couldn't know, or otherwise not treating the character as a puppet with "meta-game thinking" though of course I wouldn't play such a character as stupid--unless the character was supposed to be). That's probably Sag ethics at work as much as 5H love of creativity.

As an extreme example I was once playing 2 characters in a game in which one was brave and other cowardly, I had the brave one take on a terrible monster to save another character at terrible odds but refused to have the cowardly character help (she hid, but being a clever thief she recognized a diversion when she saw one and in fact did help solve the mystery of what had actually happened by looking for the culprit while the rest of us were fighting for our lives--and, of course, turning it into an excuse as to why she couldn't help us fight, all perfectly believable for the story but not all the players appreciated my sticking to the story rather than switching to "meta-game thinking").

Some who wanted to WIN even at hurting the believability of the story would even yell at me for that...whereas I would yell at THEM when they went to meta-game thinking without even the slightest rationalization or even gamed the system horribly like when one person had his character jump off a cliff to escape a mortal danger knowing the game system would allow him to survive the fall (if horribly wounded) and continue running (no rules for broken limbs) to find magical healing (as well as escape the monster that was going to kill him). That was probably my Sag mars opposing such stunts saying that was cheating (whereas they saw it as "smart play" and I'm sure didn't hesitate to use cheat sheets to any video game as well).

But I didn't get into too many campaigns because again, I don't like schedules and obligations that turn leisure into work.

I have Aquarius Mars in the 10th house.

I use to dance, sing, act. So along with that comes competitiveness.
I even did a beauty pageant when I was 14.

Parents signed me up for soccer from age 7-9. I sucked, I only kept up with it cause I knew I would get a trophy no matter what. When I got the same trophy 2 years in a row, that's when I decided that I was done with soccer.

I think my Aqua Mars prefers being a team rather than competing with people with common interests.

I like exercising by myself, with a friend or boyfriend, or in a group.

It's hard to see the 10th house influence for me. When I think of 10th house I think of high status corporation owners. lol
