I've been saying that I want to be a lawyer since I was 8 years old. I didn't even know why and I didn't have a reason either .. I wanted to be a lawyer and that was that. Now, 9 years later, I suddenly feel like I wanna be a full-time elementary school teacher (like my Mom) because I LOVE children. Is this because of my Pisces Midheaven?!

My dad told my older sister to be a lawyer, but she didn't listen and went into the IT part of Business. Now she feels unsatisfied with what she has and doesn't want me making the same mistake and ending up like her; always short on money .. Apparently, life when she was in school and life now, 10 years later, is way more expensive and the paycheck doesn't follow. She thinks I'll have higher chances of succeeding in the future if I have a well-paid job, and higher chances of getting a high salary if I study law. If I don't like law, she recommends I go into child psych or be a school counselor, but that at the end of the month, I'll find it hard paying the bills. On the other hand, my mom is a single parent, has a salary over 90K and she still doesn't struggle.

I took Law-U (uni level) this year because I needed the French credit and to see if I like it, which I don't. I'm passing the course with an 84, but at the same time, I'm bored out of my mind in class! My family keeps encouraging me to not give up on my lawyer dream, but I tried it and I don't like it. Should I try take the course in English next year, just to give it another shot?

I feel like maybe there's a reason I wanted/want to be a lawyer so badly and that maybe it's too soon to give up and say I don't like law .. I'm only 16 and I'll most likely have other chances to take Law classes, right?!

I'm worried and just want to make sure that I'm making the right decision and taking the right path.. At the end of the day, I'm definitely not going to bust my ass studying for a career that I won't even like.

Here's a pic of my chart, if it helps:

Ascendant Cancer (Venus/Mars)13°27'55
2nd House Leo (Sun) 1°28'01
3rd House Leo (Mercury) 21°56'56

I have a Pisces midheaven and I studied law. I'm now working in research which is a more "creative" branch of law.

I find that I need to be "creative" to feel fulfilled in a job environment. If I have to follow strict rules and apply them routinely, I'm not satisfied.

Research is great because it leaves door to creativity/criticism which I like. There are requirements and rules of course, but it's not as "rigid" as IT or banking jobs.

I can easily feel stifled in a restrictive job environment. I am a bit of a "humanitarian" which therefore pushes me to seek expression over monetary performance.

I think you should pursue a career that gives you a freedom of expression and a certain creativity margin.

I think job satisfaction is better than more money, especially as the more you make the more you're likely to spend and thus inclined to be just as much in debt regardless.

That said, it's easy to become a substitute teacher in most US states (and I expect it is in Canada), you just have to pass a test that is no harder than passing a GED. I'd strongly recommend that you get some experience as a substitute before investing in the time to become a credentialed teacher as there's a lot of crap teachers have to put up with that I doubt you're aware of.

Also keep in mind that plenty of kids are going to be miserable at times, especially at school, and you'll probably pick up on that (and sometimes there won't be anything you can do about it). I know a substitute teacher who quit because of that, the breaking point when an abused child he was trying to help was murdered by her drunken father while the school board and principal was telling him to not make waves by bringing attention to the problem. How would that affect you?

You also might find it interesting to volunteer with CASA to see if there's something in the legal field for you after all:

Though from my own personal bitter experience I'd like to emphasize that children really do need to be listened to SINCERELY rather than condescendingly and insincerely and they're not always better off with the mother.

In any case a little experience as a substitute teacher and as a CASA volunteer might help you find your way.

Here's why a 2nd grade teacher quit:

I know the conditions he describes aren't limited to the United States.

I completely agree with this. Find out what works best for you and pursue it, I also suggest volunteering or working in clubs/organizations/events that can get you a inside feel for the career(s) you're interested in.

I have Pisces MC and I am in school now to become an elementary teacher. Honestly, at first I always thought that business was the career path for me growing up. I even majored in accounting my first year in college. I took business classes throughout high school, joined business clubs in high school, and in my first year of college, did a TON of business related things like join campus groups, organizations, and even a summer business program. After all of that though is when it hit me that the business profession is NOT for me lol.

I was actually missing signs throughout my life that kept pointing towards teaching I think. I've always ended up volunteering and working in clubs/organizations that helped young kids but it didn't click til end of last year that this is what I want to do for life. Anyways, in my second semester with my new major I can without a doubt say that this career fits me best. I actually enjoy what I'm learning and I look forward to my career after graduation.

So basically, find out what interests you most and get a feel for it first if you can, then go from there. You'll know when you've made the right choice .
