I've just recently begun studying solar arcs, but in general there aren't many sources of interpretation. Are there any experts on solar arcs around here that would like to share their knowledge? If so, please do!

Simultaneously, I have SA saturn=venus, and SA Venus=Midheaven.

At the same time, transiting saturn is in opposition to my venus. I know there's a lot going on here in the love and relationship department . . . but I'm not sure if this is indicating love and commitment, or love . . . but unrequited.

I need to know:

a) what are the orbs of this aspect?
b) what do Saturn and Venus rule in the natal chart or how are they being aspected? and where do they fall (only Placidus)
c) What is the progressed Moon doing?

Solar arc orbs need to be reeeeeally tight. I don't like straying more than 1°, myself.

1° applying and separating?
That would be 2 years in general.

Personally I like to keep them even tighter, 30 minutes applying and separating, which means half a year before the exactness and half a year afterwards, still broad enough as a timeframe (5 minutes of the arc equal one month).
And of course just the 4th harmonic aspects (and 8th harmonic ones, but keeping in mind those are a little weaker in terms of intensity).

I'm more liberal with the luminaries due to their wide influence, but otherwise I keep the orb about as tight as you do. I keep my eye out for conjunctions and oppositions, mainly. Squares feel like a behind-the-scenes energy. Soft aspects are way too subtle to even notice, I find.

Oh, I even use the semisquare and sesisquare but just as an "addendum" so to speak, the main arcs to me are conjunction, opposition and square.

I used to think like you do, but I just can`t deny the powerful impact the squares had in my own life and in that of other people, even though THEORETICALLY the conjunction and opposition should be much much much more powerful. But in fact the power increased rather with the tightness of orb, than with the distinction between opposition or square for example.

I do still keep a mental note thogh, if midpoint pictures are made directly (by conjunction and opposition). I am just fond of the thought that these are the spots that are signifying the real points of integration.

And yet, if I look at my own natal midpoint pictures.

Venus conjunct Jupiter/Uranus, but squares Sun/Saturn.
While both make sense, it`s the squaring picture that "wins". But maybe that is because my Venus is in Capricorn, I donīt know.

For me the order is:

1. conjunction, opposition
2. square.
...
...
...
3. semisquare, sesisquare

EDIT
Funny enough the conj/ opposition seems to more depict how I AM, while the squares describes aptly how I ACT. But that could be coincidence.

It's probably due to the layout of your natal. All my main planets are in close formation, so my only natal square goes to/from my Cap MARS to my Lib planets. He leads the march, while the others fall behind. It takes time for everything to arc into a square position (excluding angles, of course).

My most recent significant arc that was very noticeable was my saMARS (finally) passing my AC into my 1H. Even though that bad boy squared my nVENUS two years prior, it had nothing on the AC conjunction.

That said, however, when saMARS squared my nPLUTO, long ago, that was when I met KD. But I also had some key transits and progressions happening around that time, too. In SA alone, I had saVENUS conjunct nURANUS and saJUPITER conj nJUNO, lol.

In a few months, my progressed New Moon will be exactly conjunct tPLUTO and square our nMOONs (we have a natal opposition). We shall see how that goes, now that my saSUN (pSUN) is in the rat race. SUN is my nDC ruler. Should I mention that on that day, tSUN will be exactly opposite tPLUTO/pSUN-MOON, too?

"All my main planets are in close formation, "
Mine are rather close, too.
A stellium (Mars, ASC, Neptune, NN, Sun, Mercury) in Sag, Venus in Cap, Moon in Aqua, Jupiter in Pisces.

Two square-formations.
Jupiter on 11 PIsces square the Mars-ASC-Neptune-NN combo from 5-10 Sagittarius.

Venus on 6 Cap square the Pluto-MC-conjunction from 4-9 Libra, hence Venus is square the Pluto/MC-mp.

"My most recent significant arc that was very noticeable was my saMARS (finally) passing my AC into my 1H. "
I think that this would DEFINITELY be one of the most outstanding aspects, the transition over the horizon, certainly.

In my case Sa Mars was crossing my ASC when I was about 2 years old, and 2 months after that my middle brother was being born.

The year after that Sa Neptune crossed my ASC. I think this is still connected to the birth of my brother (especially with Mars and Neptune ruling 4th and 3rd house).

and then in 2010 sa Uranus (the other ruler of 3rd house) was crossing my ASC.
in retrospect, well, this was about the time I undertook a short trip to Paris to meet a friend I had only known from email before (we actually had been conversing for 7 years before that without ever meeting or even exchange pictures. lol) btw the friend is an Aquarius.

On another note it was also the year I ended my disappearance-act and hiding I had gone into 2 years before, when I had first met Mr Sag (curiously while my saUranus was conjunct Mars exact, plus sa Mars square Pluto; and the sa ASC square Pluto happened at the time when we first saw each other, without officially meeting); I figured then that he would not even recognize me anyway, and it was just a one time occasion of seeing him in a concert.

I also that summer saw an old crush of mine and came to the realization that it was REALLY over for me, and with that crystal clear knowledge that my path was leading elsewhere.

A lot of liberation. lol

in 2012 I had sa Pluto square Moon, and it was a very kathartic summer for me. (Tr Pluto was conjunct my Venus as well).

"In a few months, my progressed New Moon "
Interestingly I will have a progressed fullmoon (leo-Aquarius) in may, just 2 months after my sa Venus is conjunct nMoon (in march, so next month it is going to be very exact).
Due to Jupiter`s retrogradation he also opposed/ opposes my Moon on 17 Aquarius (And hence sa Venus) at times.

The squares of Tr Saturn to n Moon and sa Venus were very interesting as well (mostly last year).

"will be exactly conjunct tPLUTO and square our nMOONs (we have a natal opposition)."
Wow, very very intense! A turning point.

on the day my pr fullmoon happens, there are no strong transits to that fullmoon (it is interestingly trine/ sextile my horizon exactly though, but trine and sextile are no event aspects)

Interestingly though on tha very day there is a fullmoon in the transtis, too.

So my progressed fullmoon is from 7 Leo to 7 Aquarius

the transiting fullmoon is from 13 Scorpio to 13 Taurus. (on the exact antiscion of my natal Moon btw)
and squaring the transiting Jupiter on 13 Leo and Juno on 11 Leo

but there are other interesting transits to my natal chart:

Tr Venus opposing my Sun 0°10
Tr Venus opposing my Mercury 0°43
Tr Mercury opposing my Mars 1°08
Tr NN conjunct my Pluto 0°39
Tr Saturn conjunct my Mars 2°00
Tr Saturn conjunct my AMOR 1°00
Tr Pluto opposing my Saturn 1°32
Tr Uranus square my Saturn 1°02
Tr Neptune conjunct my Jupiter 1°48
Tr Neptune square my Node 0°46

plus

Tr Pluto conjunct sa Mars 0°49
Tr SN conjunct sa BML 0°01
Tr Uranus square sa ASC 0°14

I haven't the time at the moment, but I'll come back after work, in a few hours, and after I've had a chance to check up on some of my other arcs in the past. You've got my interest all piqued.

Do you have anything on or near 14° Leo? That's a hot degree this year, since - at least in my location - that's where the JUPITER-JUNO conjunction will be (May 17), followed by the VENUS-MARS conjunction a couple months later (Sept 1). I've got my DC-NN at 12-13° natally, so I'm interested to see how it will affect me. I'm hoping to forge some good, long-term contacts, at least in a working sense. tSATURN is dancing back and forth on my MC, and with saJUNO on my MC as well, I want to make the most of it.

My SUN-MOON MP is also square at 13° Sco. We shall see.

Thanks for all the replies!

SA Venus=MC is 0.5 degrees, fading.
SA Saturn=Venus is 0.5 degrees, forming.

I also have SA Venus=Moon, but it's not at a tight orb yet: 1.4 degrees, forming. This one might be especially significant because I am a Cancer rising and therefore ruled by the moon.

In my chart, Saturn is my 7th House ruler (Capricorn on the cusp), and falls in my 8th House. Venus is my 5th House ruler (Libra on the cusp), and falls in my 11th House.

Natally, I also have Venus trine Saturn, but the orb isn't tight at 6.3 degrees.

When it comes to my progressed Moon, I'm not sure how to necessarily answer that question. By Solar Arc, my progressed Moon is in Aries in the 10th House. But by secondary progression, my Moon is in Aquarius in the 8th House. Natally my Pisces moon falls in the 10th House.

The reason why I ask all of this is because I have indeed fallen in love. Big time. But it's been really complicated. Currently we aren't speaking, and have had no contract for three months . . . but I'm wondering if we're at the threshold of building something really meaningful together, making a commitment to each other . . . or if it ends here, love unrequited.

Cheers xo

It might help to just list all of my Solar Arcs, hard aspects only.

Moon=Neptune, 0.6 degrees fading.
Mercury=Pluto, 0.5 degrees forming.
Venus=Moon, 1.4 degrees forming.
Venus=MC, 0.5 degrees fading.
Mars=Ceres, 0.1 degrees fading.
Saturn=Venus, 0.5 degrees forming
Uranus=Saturn, 1.1 degrees fading.
MC=Neptune, 1.2 degrees forming.
MC=AC, 0.8 degrees fading.
Juno=Pluto, exact.
Lilith=Sun, 0.5 degrees forming.
Lilith=Chiron, 0.3 degrees fading.

I would think that SA Saturn on Venus might mean getting serious about settling down with someone, but could also manifest as obstacles in love. Saturn is said to reward hard work and following established traditions, but also represents trials and hardship. Maybe this will result in an established loving relationship, but not without some obstacles. I think SA Venus on the MC would mean a beneficial time career wise, and a time when you will be attractive to others, projecting a charming image to everyone around you. SA Venus coming close to your natal Moon sounds promising too for emotional fulfillment, so it might counteract the SA Saturn on Venus aspect, which should be weakening by that point.

Blind writer, thank you for pointing out the 14 deg Leo info. My DC is at 18 deg, NN at 16 deg (I remember our birthdays and axis' are close) and the man I'm interested in has his Sun right on my NN. My Sun is 13 deg Scorpio. His progressed Sun is on his natal Venus right now, sextile my progressed Venus. My SA Venus is applying to a conjunction with my Sun too, so I'm thinking this is really good timing for both of us. Plus Jupiter is on his Sun and my NN/DC.

I was curious what is considered more important, progressions or solar arcs? Or are they of equal importance?

Bluejay, from what I've heard . . . solar arcs are the best predictive technique. Solar Arcs signify actual, physical changes . . . whereas secondary progressions reveal inner, emotional changes. Here's a link to an older forum that explains the difference between SAs and progressions in great detail:

Well, progressions can also be quite apt in signaling physical changes. I find both very useful, though Solar arcs seem to hightlight the MAJOR things, shaping the background and timeframe, especially since here we can have arcs of the outer planets, too.
While with progressions it seems more quicker. I don`t know how to really put it. lol

But still the death of my grandparents were more aptly shown in the progressions than the solar arcs, or more clearly maybe. I am sure there were some arcs that I did not see I guess.
But still it was rather gobsmacking to see that the exact day my grandmother died, my pr Moon was conjunct pr DESC exactly (in CAncer, all on HER natal Sun-Mars-Pluto-conjunction), and squaring my own Pluto exact, too.
Oh and Tr Pluto was exactly on my pr ASC and opposing my pr Moon, while at the exact moment the transiting ASC was conjunct my pr ASC as well and Tr Mars on my pluto (and all of that of course connected to her chart).

This was definitely determining an exact moment in time for that.
However I think while the progressions were like shining a light on that particular area of the chart, it could only happen against the backdrop of certain solar arcs.

the solar arcs for me at that time were:
sa Uranus conjunct Node (fading out, 0°30)

sa Jupiter conjunct Chiron (fading out, 0°30)

sa Moon square Sun (fading out 020)
(with my n Sun= Mars/Saturn)

and that was it, there was really nothing to imply that thre would be a death in the family

Well, Tr Uranus was opposing n Pluto though, and Tr Neptune squarin n Mars.

Since Mars rules my 4th house, and Pluto sits on my MC, I think, in combination with the sa Uranus on Node, this might have been alluded to changes in the family, especially in terms of maternal figures, but still within that background arc, it were the progressions (of angles and pr Moon especially) that were pinpointing the exact timeframe.

That is interesting. I donīt have anything TOO near those degrees, though my natal Moon is at 17 Aquarius.

oh and my sa MC is at 15°59 Scorpio, but will of course move on from this.

on 1st september my pr Moon will be on 12°04 Leo

But well while not hitting off these degrees directly it seems like my pr Moon, sa MC (and pr MC) and natal Moon and sa Venus are sort of hanging around these degrees.

"also have SA Venus=Moon, but it's not at a tight orb yet: 1.4 degrees, forming. "
So that relates to a time starting a year from now. It could be a deepening of THIS relationship, or it could be a totally new development.

Interestingly I have SA Venus=Moon at the moment myself (peaking next month), with Venus ruling my 5th, 6th, 10th house and Moon ruling my 8th.
Not sure about its effects as of now though.

"In my chart, Saturn is my 7th House ruler (Capricorn on the cusp), and falls in my 8th House."
I also have Saturn in 8th.
Well as for you Saturn has to definitely be considered as a relationship planet then, especially in combination to the 5th house ruler Venus. Of course Satrn will still be Saturn, and your relationships rather Saturnian, but still is significant for relationships for you especially.

My mom had that too when my Dad and her got "serious".

sa Venus conjunct natal Saturn
(and when they married pr Venus conjunct natal Saturn plus conjunct my Dad`s pr and n Mars exact)

Venus rules her 5th house as well, and Saturn rules her 7th and 8th (she has a Cancer ASC like you)
both are natally in 4th house.

Of course for her itbrough Venus to her Saturn, not Saturn to her Venus.

"When it comes to my progressed Moon, I'm not sure how to necessarily answer that question."
We need to know the exact degree of the progressed MOon, as he operates as a timer of indicating certain timeframes, bringing certain aspects to the foreground.

is your pMoon anywhere near 17 Aquarius?

"The reason why I ask all of this is because I have indeed fallen in love."
Yes the Venus=MC arc is very indicative of falling in love.

" . . but I'm wondering if we're at the threshold of building something really meaningful together, making a commitment to each other . . . or if it ends here, love unrequited."
With SAturn here both is possible I suppose.

I would also check the transits of the outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the nodes to your chart. If a lot of nice things come up, like Jupiter to Venus, Moon etc. it might indicate the love relationship. if stuff like Saturn opposing Pluto, Moon, Venus comes up, or Neptune squaring Venus, then I would bea little more hesitant about that.

"Venus=Moon, 1.4 degrees forming."
I was thinking that might relate to possibly a relationship forming, or even getting pregnant (ruler of 5th house conjunct Moon as ruler of 1st house), but of course it could also have to do with creativity in some way.
However it is not "due" now, as I said, keep an eye on what is developing from about 12 or 13 months from now on.

"Venus=MC, 0.5 degrees fading."
That would have been the falling-in-love-time (the peak was half a year ago, so around august 2014, but might have happened even a little before that or after, as the solar arcs span a broader time)

"Saturn=Venus, 0.5 degrees forming"
This is just forming now. So it very well could signify a consolidation of the relationship or love, that begun under Venus=MC, or it could also mean that the obstacles will be too great.
Keep an eye on the transits for that.

"Lilith=Sun, 0.5 degrees forming.
Lilith=Chiron, 0.3 degrees fading."
Hmm, is there another woman involved? Are YOU the other woman?
Or is there something "taboo" about your relationship, something that is out of the norm and might not be accepted by society?

Astrology aside, if you had no contact for three months, it doesn`t bode well for a continuation of the relationship, does it?
Unless one of you or the two of you make a REAL effort to keep this thing going.
Maybe you should get back into contact, even if just to find out if you need to move on from this.

Ceridwen, wow! Thank you so much for your detailed and thougtful reply.

I do wonder however if Jupiter conjunct Chiron might imply the loss of your grandparents? Other than that though, you're right . . . there's nothing really there that indicates that event.

When my brother died, the event was definitely reflected in my solar arcs. At the exact time, I had:
SA Moon=AC, 0.7 degrees fading.
SA Uranus=Saturn, 0.8 degrees forming
SA Asc=Saturn, 0.2 degrees fading.
SA MC=Uranus, 0.1 degrees forming.
SA Ceres=Pluto, 0.1 degrees forming.
SA Pallas=Lilith, 0.5 degrees forming.

The Ceres=Pluto aspect seems to be spot-on, considering the mythological history of those planets . . . Pluto abducts the great mother Ceres' daughter Proserpine. I had more of a parent/child relationship with my brother because he was severely developmentally delayed, and our mother died a few years earlier, leaving me with a lot of responsibility. Interesting correlation there, I think.

Meanwhile, by progression, I had:
Sun trine Uranus, 0.3 degrees forming.
Moon conjunct Neptune, 0.7 degrees forming.
Venus square Moon, 0.7 degrees fading.
Mars opposition Neptune, 0.6 degrees fading.
MC square Uranus, 0.1 degrees forming.

The SA MC=Uranus and progressed MC square Uranus, both at 0.1 degrees is especially chilling. About a month after the death of my brother, I was forced to choose whether or not to continue with my plans to attend graduate school. I had applied before my brother died, and received letters of acceptance just shortly after this time . . . when they would have been exact, or very close to exact. I did end up accepting actually (biggest mistake ever).

But other than that, I don't really see any correlations between my solar arcs and progressions - except perhaps progressed Sun trine Uranus . . . but I'm suspicious of the trine considering how much difficulty I experienced at this point in my life.

Ceridwen: currently my progressed moon is at 9 degrees Aquarius. My solar arc moon is at 17 degrees Aries.

I also have transiting Saturn Opposition Venus . . . which points to a clear Saturnian trend in terms of love and relationships. I guess I will see as time goes on.

I know we haven't spoken for three months . . . but I'm not prepared to reconnect with him, at least not yet. Our relationship, in general, has been very Saturnian. I need a break from him. He really triggered some major insecurity issues in me. I guess I need him to open up to me first to show me that he's changed, or at least trying to change. I'm tired of being the one to always patch things up. I guess I'm the more Saturnian partner in this case because I need him to prove his love to me. If he doesn't, that's alight. I've accepted that as the more likely result. Lately he's been acting very immature though... publicly flirting and hitting on my friends on social media, trying to get back at me for cutting contact with him. It's really obvious that he's trying to hurt me . . even though I can see him trying to get my attention, trying to get me to confront him, I'm not going to. He's pulling at my heart strings in all the wrong ways and his behaviour does not deserve my attention.

And good observation here:

"Lilith=Sun, 0.5 degrees forming.
Lilith=Chiron, 0.3 degrees fading."
Hmm, is there another woman involved? Are YOU the other woman?
Or is there something "taboo" about your relationship, something that is out of the norm and might not be accepted by society?"

There is a considerable age gap . . . thirteen years. He's the older partner. Definitely taboo.

-- thanks for your interpretations! they were so well-informed.

Any updates? I'm interested since in my chart SA Saturn square Venus exact next April. (Saturn 3th house, Venus 1st)

According to Noel Tyl it is: Suppression of love feelings; relationship with someone of conspicuous age difference; learning trust in romance; trying to understand peacefulness and calm.

But I have heard it may be obstacles and hardship too..
In my natal Venus is in 11th house ( but basically in 12th house cusp) trine Saturn at the 2nd house.
Aquarius on 5th house cusp, Taurus on 9th house cusp and Libra on 2nd house cusp. Any thoughts?

Wow, I just logged on to this forum for the first time in months, and I certainly didn't expect to see my thread at the top of the page. Uncanny.

The period in which SA Saturn was conjunct m Venus was one of the hardest stages of my life, romantically speaking. I experienced devastating heartache.

Today, it is finally fading at 1.2 degrees. I lost in love, to be blunt. On the other hand, though, I learned a lot about myself - namely, that there was value in being vulnerable, however too late.

It seemed like a cruel joke that I would have these two SAs at the same time (Venus = MC (falling in love) and Saturn=Venus (suppression of love feelings)). Reflecting on it all, I grew up a lot. I no longer feel ashamed of my feelings.

Lesson learned: never feel ashamed for feeling the way you feel, wanting the things that you want, or looking the way you do. Own that **** .
