My younger brother's the same way. He stutters so bad and I always feel for him. Like your friend he's getting better as he gets older. He just rushes to get things out and just struggles. He's Taurus Mercury.

I stuttered when I was 5/6 years old. My grandmother picking on me - we lived with her. Pluto was transiting my12th, aspecting cardinal planets. I can't recall what else was going on transit-wise.

I used to have speech issues when I was younger , but slowly but surely started to improve for the better. I used to stutter bad in my elementary days to the point of other kids noticing. For some reason, I always thought that I had to get my thoughts out really fast so people could understand me. LOL. It was like my mind and thoughts were moving faster than my speech pattern when speaking!
I only stutter now when i'm excited about something , but I can usually catch myself in the act before it gets too bad. Some people i've met don't even notice and they're shocked when I tell them that I had this problem in the past.

However, now i'm studying in college to become a speech therapist because of all of these reasons that i've went through.
Therefore, Growing up i've learned to just take my time when speaking because speaking is something that is delicate to me in a sense.

My mercury is not really afflicted in my chart that much , so I don't know if that could be a reason. I know that my mercury in Gemini has a lot to do with my speech pattern. I can talk really fast and just skim the surface of things. My mercury falls in the ninth house. I think having my mercury in the 9th house made me find my truth in a way and search for things on my own. I can also teach myself things as well.

I do have a mercury inconjuct neptune and uranus, so maybe this could be a factor to as well.

I notice that I do use my imagination a lot when speaking and i'm very expressive. That could be my mercury sextile venus ,though

I have mercury opp saturn and neptune/uranus in the 3rd house. I dont have a terrible stutter per say, but I always notice when im not talking correctly and it bothers me greatly. Which forces a air dominant, communicative guy like me to not talk much.

What came to mind was Mercury-Saturn conjunctions and hard aspects. Then, I did a little research. Here's a few examples.

Actress Julia Roberts: Mercury square Pluto

Actress Nicole Kidman: Mercury square Mars-Saturn (Mercury is the focal point of a t-square)

Actor James Earl Jones: Mercury conjunct Saturn

King George VI: Mercury opposed Pluto-Neptune conjunct in Gemini

So, the common denominator in these four examples are Mercury-Saturn and Mercury-Pluto.

Hm, interesting. I've got Mercury opposition Pluto, and Mercury trine Saturn, and I've got a lisp problem.

I am not too sure.

I actually did suffer from an extreme stutter between the age of 2 to at least 11. It has improved considerably and when I am calm, I am absolutely fine. However, if I am angry... I find that this is when it tends to come out more.

This may be perhaps why I find it alot easier to write my thoughts and feelings, because I feel more in control of what I am putting out. I am more coherent.

Natally, I have Mercury in Gemini and in my 8th house. It doesn't form any obvious HARSH/CHALLENGING aspects... However, as the 8th house is traditionally ruled by Pluto, perhaps this is the Mercury-Pluto link that you speak of.

@Geminiyoungster

If I had another life, I would also be a speech therapist.

I didn't realise how much communication meant to me until my father lost his ability to communicate as a result of a stroke. As a result of my experiences growing up, I feel that I am the only one patient enough to actually sit and listen to him when he struggles to get his sentences out.

Interesting! I clicked on this because my younger brother had a lot of Speech problems as a child. He had to go to speech therapy to correct it. It had do with his hearing, he couldn't hear properly, and then couldn't speak properly. He's fine now though, in fact, he is a very persuasive talker! He has Mercury in Taurus, opposite Pluto!
