To the annoyance of my girlfriend and friends I refused to leave my apartment this weekend and watched the third season. I couldn't help but apply Sun and Moon signs to characters. Here's what I came up with

Frank - Scorpio Sun, Capricorn Moon
This one felt easy. I can think of no other Sun/Moon combo more machiavellian than this. All he wants is the top office and he'll do anything for it. He's rarely emotional except for some anger outburst and rare instances of crying. He knows how to appeal to the emotional and understands human emotion well due to the benefits of Scorpio's emotional and psychological intuitiveness but doesn't necessarily get ruled by them because of the restraints given by the Capricorn Moon in his own mind. It makes for a wonderfully manipulative skillset.

Claire - Cancer/Capricorn Sun, Aquarius Moon
This one was a little harder. I feel as if the Sun can be just about any sign but the Aquarius Moon is a solid pick. She has emotional intuitiveness but she is certainly not a Pisces, and she's not as naturally conniving as Frank for me to think Scorpio. This leaves Cancer which are the emotionally intuitive secretly hardiest ******** of the Water signs. Indications of Claire's regrets of a normal life leads me to feel she may have wanted more than success. She's obviously pulled between her current life and the life she could have had. I could also see her being a Capricorn Sun wanting success but occasionally regretting giving up the other good things in life.
Now the Aquarius Moon for me is without debate. She definitely feels colder than Frank. A Capricorn represses emotions and controls them while the Aquarius Moon intellectualizes it. Both styles can lead to ruthless pragmatism. The Capricorn Moon comes off a little warmer and less distant , simply more controlled and practical. The Aquarius Moon very often comes off distant as if viewing you as another human in a big picture world. Also her early career of running a nonprofit for humanitarian purposes makes me want to apply the Aquarius upon her.

Doug - Virgo Sun, Scorpio Moon
He's the perfect #2 man. Virgo Suns are some of the best right hand men you can have. Intelligent people with exactness of execution and loyal. Often content of being part of the team and valued. You don't often have to worry about being back stabbed IF you let them know they are valued highly. He gets the job done but he isn't a big picture kind of guy. He's quite fine letting Frank dream the big picture while he does his bit of work perfectly. But the dude clearly has some plutonic issues of obsessiveness and excess/extremes.

Meecham - Taurus/Virgo or Fire Sun, Pisces Moon (Someone suggested Cancer Sun and I like that pick)
This one is very tough because we don't get enough of an insight into his personality. He seems earthy but with a secretly emotional inner self. Something about him is strong but vulnerable. I could also see him as a Fire sun.
I chose Pisces Moon because I think he shares a very special devotion to Frank that could be explained by his Moon's trine and sextile to Frank's Sun and Moon.

Seth - Gemini Sun, Fire/Air Moon
He is cold, highly intelligent, and ambitious. He is with Frank because as long as the tide raises his own boat. In charge of communication he is a natural for quick management of the press. He shares no special love for anyone on this team due to his lack of similar energy element.

Freddy - Leo Sun, Taurus Moon
Don't **** with Freddy. He may be a low totem pole person in terms of power and success but he is no push over. He's got himself squared away with a strong Sun and a tough Moon. He knows how to cook too.

Remy - Aries Sun, Cancer /Pisces Moon
Confident, in charge, and in desperate need of love.

Jackie - Cancer Sun, Leo Moon
Something delicate about her beyond all the power playing.

Most of these seem quite spot on. I'd vote for Sun in Capricorn more for Claire than Sun in Cancer, though. Just a feeling I get. She seems dedicated to her agenda in a way that's even more "ruthlessly pragmatic" than Frank. He's often motivated by revenge or a desperate need to cover his tracks (great call on him being a Scorpio), while she just seems to simply do what she thinks is practical. For Frank, I think it's more of a personal thing.

I haven't seen season three yet but I plan on having a binge sometime this week. How'd you like it?

So I became seriously obsessed with this show, first season, but I haven't watched any season after. I will. About Claire, if you have a minute watch the best description I've ever heard of Cancer Sun. I vote Cancer Sun. And it was during the episode when she had to let all of those people go (1st season) that I saw it the clearest. She felt it, but she had something bigger to protect.

She wanted children. She made her work her child. Both Cap and Cancer are good choices.

I would reverse it and give them both scorp moons. I'd give Frank a cap sun and give Claire a taurus/aries cusp sun. Love the Claire character - such a badass!

I liked it a lot. There was only one plot line I thought could have been shorter but I won't mention it.

Things are tougher for Frank but that's the way I think it should be. It's a lot harder for Mr Scorpio to be Scorpio with the spot light on him. He has a leadership style better suited behind the scenes with a friendlier face at the helm.

This may help as it lists most of the characters and their birthdays.

I hear it's a really great show. I just haven't decided if I want to watch it or not. I love Kevin Spacey!

I'd buy that Claire's a CAP, and Frank's MOON is on her SUN. Completely.

I think Frank would have an Aries Moon because he is very emotional, his actions are mostly based on being "no 1", as though everything is a competition that he has to win and he has a very violent streak that comes out when things don't go his way.

These traits don't really suit Capricorn Moon. Capricorn Moon rises to the top gradually and slowly, the good old fashioned way - not breaking tradition - and not putting its own interests above that of the country.
Capricorn Moon is a very non-aggressive placement. They can be threatening simply because they work so hard and are good at what they do - but they are not normally violent. They respect moral norms as well.
Frank Underwood is very self-centred and immoral, which is the dark side of Aries.

Claire would also have to have something in Aries because she is insanely competitive and insanely fit. Maybe Mars in Aries?

Hmmm Ok I didn't take into account how calculated Frank is... I guess I could give him a Capricorn Mars.
But he is still a highly emotional person from my pov.
Scorpio Sun/Aries Moon - would suit the anger and rage he displays and the level of violence he is prepared to go to.

:edit: He is also very -quick- in his decision making. He can make snap decisions and take risks, which luckily work out for him.
Capricorn never takes snap decisions and never changes plans to adjust to a changing environment. They need some time to change a plan. They don't act in the moment as Aries does.

If born early, he could have Cappy Moon conj. Saturn even - making that theme even more pronounced.

Well he was the easy call for me because the character shares a lot of personality characteristics I have except he is manifesting them in the way they shouldn't be used. I have Scorpio Sun Cappy Moon conj Saturn exact. So there's some bias in that selection.

Claire also reminds me of a Cancer and Cappy Sun with Aqua Moon women I know

The rest were harder to guess because I don't have any real life people to think of

I think the writers definitely intended for him to at least be a Scorpio because of the book "Scorpio" they keep throwing in our face in the 3rd season. I wouldn't be surprised if someone on the writing staff being versed in astrology and specifically picking such a birthday but who knows.

Yes, Vajra, how didn't I think of Libra? There is a Libra feel to Frank's character!
Great thread, Koho!
The whole series has a Cappy/Scorpio feel, and I think we could speculate on the relationship itself, the composite between Claire and Frank, they are a power couple and their relationship plays a big role in the script.

My vote goes to Cappy/Scorpio/Leo mix for Frank, maybe Leo ascendant and definitely Libra something for Frank. For her, Aqua sun and Moon (remember that Saturn rules Aqua too, they would be conjunct his descendant with Leo asc) and Venus-Mars in Pisces (she has an artistic side and the most ruthless person I've known is a Pisces with Cancer asc; it would bode well with his Scorp) and some Aries thrown in for good measure and to go with his Leo.

I'll definitely come back with the rest when I have the time

I just looked up the actor's charts, I may be picking up Leo from Kevin Spacey's sun, as I think Odette is picking up his natal moon in Aries

Frank's natal chart:

Gave him a Libra Ascendant for his surface charm.

Claire's natal chart:

Gave her a Capricorn Asc since of her Saturnian vibe, could also be an Aqua Ascendant. Venus in Pisces seems very obvious in her.

Why's the Venus in Pisces obvious? I don't see it but I've never had a personal experience with a Venus in Pisces person

Sorry didn't see this before, but anyway Claire for all of her calculating behavior has an extremely idealistic and sensitive side to her. Her decision to get back with her ex-lover Adam in season 1, when Frank's mistress Zoey is out of control- seems very Piscean to me- running away from her problems through nostalgia and creating an "illusion" from the past.

That whole thing was very Scorpio-like of her IMO, it seemed deliberate, not like running away from the problem or something like that. It worked, too; she got her point across.

From what I remember, Frank only said that because she was upset before and seemed to (from his perspective) overreact about Zoey. Claire superficially seemed to be perfectly fine with the arrangement but under pressure, cracked and revealed her own hurt feelings. IMO her decision to run to a lover who in contrast to Frank, was very sensitive, artistic, and completely devoted to her (Pisces) really pointed to her Venus. Of course, Claire most likely has a Scorpio moon which forms a square with her Pisces Venus so we could be seeing that square in action.

I found it interesting when Claire said that she didn't want to live alone in their house.
She's usually so 'cool' that it surprised me.

I read that Robin Wright had a lot to do with the writing of her character, and Kevin Spacey remarked that she'd improved on other scenes.
