I have a question about the Ascendant ruler, not necessary the chart ruler.. For example Ascendant is in capricorn, so the chart ruler is Saturn, if Saturn is in libra, what would this mean for the person ? would it have some affinity with libra ? really curious about this..

It would mean the person would have some beauty. I think some dignified beauty because Saturn in Libra is exalted which mean at its very best.

Cap rising with Saturn in Libra puts the context of the principle planet into the cardinal air mode, closer to the surface of external interactions and more appreciative of social standards and values, fairness, professionalism, etc.

Well I think I agree with what has been said by the above responses.

The person concerned I would imagine, would come across as someone concerned with social propriety, interactive behavior and all things related to social interaction.

I would even imagine that they would marry/associate with people that enhance their image in some way.(especially if Saturn is in the 10th house).

The Ascendant ruler IS the chart ruler because the chart is defined by the Ascendant.

And I personally put much more emphasis on the chart ruler's house placement and aspects than the sign, especially if the chart ruler's an outer planet. But, that's just me.

I just wrote an article about the chart ruler. I should be posting it to my blog soon. My idea is that the chart ruler sets the tone for your life. It's like the kind of movie you're living out. But, it's your choice to live out the chart ruler and it's house placement in a way to make your life the kind of movie that you want it to be.

I have Capricorn Rising, too, and my Saturn's in the 12th. And 12th House themes really dominate and color my life (not just because of the stellium in this house). But, I'm learning how to flip that script and live out the positives of this planet/house combo.

This is actually not true. The Chart ruler and ASC ruler are NOT always the same. The chart ruler is the planet that is the strongest in your chart (by house, dignity, aspects etc.) perfect example: my ASC ruler is the moon. I am a Cancer rising. However the moon is NOT my chart ruler. I have an almost completely unaspected moon so it is very weak in my chart. It actually ranks 6th in strength out of all 10 planets. Mercury is actually the the strongest in my chart by house, dignity, aspects etc. so my chart ruler is Mercury. You can find out your chart ruler by going to astro.com, go to "Pullen/astrology" and then choose "simple chart delineation."

So a chart ruler is measure by strength?

I thought it was by virtue of being the planet that has similar/same characteristics as the sign on the 1st house cusp?

It's not measured by strength. If you google chart ruler anywhere it says that it's the planet(s) that rules your Asc. Asc ruler is your chart ruler. So tgem your chart ruler is in fact the moon. Those chart delineations are something totally different. It's not even discussed how they actually get their answers. I'm not at all saying that they're wrong, they just have nothing to do with your chart ruler.

What the89freespirit said is correct and makes the most sense when you really think about it and how astrology works.

@tgem An unaspected planet is going to be stronger and more pure as it's not being colored, flawed by other planets, signs. The more aspects a planet has the more color is being added to that planet therefore making it more personalized instead of just ___. Like a piece of white paper, it's white and remains white if you don't add anything to it, when a planet is aspected your adding things from other planets, signs to that planet. Not sure if that'll make sense.

Thanks, barbiegirl. Yeah, tgem, what you're talking about is your most dominant planet. They aren't the same thing. My most dominant planet is Pluto. But, Pluto doesn't rule my chart. It rules my 10th House cusp. Your most dominant planet is still very important and influential, but it's not the same thing.

You wouldn't have a chart without a 1st House/Rising Sign. It creates the rest of your chart. So, that's where the conventional logic of the ruler of the 1st House being the chart ruler comes in.
