Name the top album from the year of your birth, or your favorite.

Post the chart of the (primary) artist by copying the chart image at astrodatabank (or wherever you find it). Right click on the image and copy it, then put it between and .

Tell us what you find interesting about the artist's music, their chart, or maybe how it compares to yours.

I know this might tap into 'multiple favorites' for we music lovers, but do just one to start, and give others a chance to post theirs without overloading a single post with too much.

Please don't 'quote' someone else's chart images.
---

For me:
I was born in 1970 which was a big year for music. One of the best releases that year was Van Morrison's 'Moondance.' It sold over 3 million copies and it is one of my very favorite albums (even though I'm a bit of a metalhead).

Van Morrison's chart:

Van Morrison's Uranus is closely conjunct and parallel my MC, and his Moon conj my MC. Both those are square my Asc.

His Neptune in the same degree of Libra as my Uranus.

Van Morrison's chart shows me spontaneity with Moon conjunct Uranus in Gemini. His music was jazz and blues influenced and was recorded back then when musicians still got together live in the studio and played their parts at the same time.

BRILLIANT idea!

I was born in 1987. Loads of great songs to choose from, but there are 2 that would always appeal to me regardless of what mood I'm: Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" and "You Give Love a Bad Name". Since it's the same artist, can I go with 2 songs?

Bon Jovi's chart below.

I don't listen to his music often, but when I do it energises me beyond measure. I drift away in melancholic moods often enough, and the music of this kind (the energy!) can pull me out within minutes.

Not sure which aspects would be relevant:
His Sun sextiles my Sun, Neptune, Mercury and Moon, and trines my Pluto exact
His Mercury squares my Moon, Mars and Pluto, and conjuncts my Venus and AC
His Mars and Jupiter square my Mars exact, my AC, and sextile my Saturn, Uranus and Jupiter
His Uranus squares my Mars and MC, and trines my Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
His Pluto trines my Sun, Moon, Mercury and Neptune

Well, I found Iron Maiden had released Number of the Beast just months before I was born...just in time for my birth!

The Satanic Panic lingered in Texas longer than I think it did elsewhere and even a high school counselor thought I was part of a cult looking for human sacrifices...even now I sometimes wish I could go back and play with her head, and right now I want to go back to proudly say Number of the Beast was released in honor of the prophecy of my birth!

Though in truth I find it a silly song, but having read a lot about it and the panic it inspired at the time I had to hear it...and knowing the public reaction I then had to laugh and that may have been the first time I thought my dream job would be trolling fundies and laughing all the way to the bank.

Yet I do like a lot of Iron Maiden (they were never a favorite of mine but generally fond of their work and some of their interviews), primarily those that depict historical or mythical scenes and settings as well as tributes to such poems as Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and even today Stranger in a Strange Land can move me to deep melancholy. It cracked me up that a school friend of mine (and pretend boyfriend) loved to start his day to Iron Maiden's Power Slave (so you always knew he was awake as the maniacal laughter cut in )

Because of him I also heard the song about Alexander the Great and thus recognized a date being wrong in history class. The coach who taught that class (only so he could be a coach by Texas law getting rid of a presumably competent teacher) and only went by the keys/answer book asked me my source and mocked me when I said an Iron Maiden song despite that they sounded like they knew what they were talking about, they certainly were more interested in it than him or even the writer of the textbook. So I researched it and very soon after brought in 3 library books that all agreed with Iron Maiden for which I got sent to the office...and the one library book from the school was taken from me and was never returned to the shelf (the school librarian wouldn't tell me what happened, only that she didn't blame me for it). Later on the multiple choice one was that date in dispute and it was the only one I got "wrong" by answering correctly (and in agreement with Iron Maiden over the textbook).

Ah well, here's the primary singer (at least at the time) chart explained:
http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Bruce_Dickinson

And because I related more to Steve Harris (in part because of what he got credit for on songs and the like) and was more interested in him, here's his:
http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Steve_Harris_%28musician%29

(I tried getting a natal chart to paste but it wouldn't accept the info so I'm just giving the links.)

Nothing in particular stands out to be though the band seems to have plenty of Leo to share (especially Bruce and Steve) which may align with my Leo ASC and also 5H stellium, and Steve Harris has plenty of Aries (perhaps reminding me of my Aries cousin who loves to play guitar) and has a Libra NN as well as some Pisces placements, including mercury (which could appeal to my 8H Pisces which seems to seek to transform and be transformed by Pisces, possibly at the urging of my 4H Scorpio Jupiter, and the historical and mythical elements appealing to my Sag while my Libra enjoys the more academic aspects to the members and their songs).

ETA: Gotta say I LOVE this pic and can't seem to stop looking at it as my mind invents stories for what's going on here:

I recall being fascinated with the artwork on that album as a kid as well, me and the Iron Maiden fan had a lot of fun in imagining the story there (he was such a fan of wizards, ninjas, and dragons, however, so scifi was more my thing than his, though his preference for fantasy was more in tune with the spirit of the band anyway).

Cool thread!

I have soooooo many favorite artists so it was a little difficult for me to pick. One of my favorite bands hands down is Of Mice and Men! Their lyrics no matter the song always get to me. I'm a big lyrics person as they're what make a song and always feel one with lyrics that have deep meaning. I love music all the way from classical to rap though I can't stand the simple lyrics used in more than half of rap. Metal, rock, the riff of a guitar are what I love the most.

Anyways, I think the reason I love this band so much is because of how raw and real they are. The lead singer writes just about all of the lyrics and we so happen to share the same Mercury amongst a few others. I'm not sure of his TOB but find his chart interesting. He's very aggressive, passionate, an analyzer, someone that tells it like it is. He's been hurt repeatedly throughout his life and not at all afraid to talk about it, and I really respect that about him. Although our charts aren't as similar he's definitely a male me!

His Sun is exactly conjunct my Sun and Moon and conjunct Mercury

His Venus is conjunct my Sun, Moon, Mercury and Asc

His Mars is conjunct my Jupiter and Sun

His Pluto conjunct my Venus

We both have Pluto sextile Neptune

Bon Jovi is my fav too. He has a cap moon and an aqua stellium. I have cap and Aqua stellium so of course I relate to "It's my life", even You Give Love a Bad Name or Born to be My Baby.

Interesting!!

Ok, so. This is not at all currently my favorite artist, or one that I listen to. Though he has new stuff that I need to check out! (Not a big fan of music from my year of birth so I picked this)
However, he ALWAYS holds a very special place in my heart. There was a very very low period in my life in which his music perfectly expressed my anger and depression, along with feeling isolated no matter who was in my life.

Justin Broadrick birthtime unknown

Now I'll post my chart and immediately I'm sure any of you will make connections.

Great thread!
I'm not a huge fan of the music that was floating around the year I was born, but I did see that Lou Reed (one of my favorite guys) released Lou Reed Live in March of that year.
I don't have a chart handy at the moment, but I know that he was a Pisces Sun/Virgo Moon like I am.
David Bowie also released Young Americans that year.
I am a fan of both because of their originality, and desire to step completely away from societal norms. I also love their music.

Just a quick note that's not directly related to the topic...about the last hour or so I've been listening to Iron Maiden while doing some mindless work and realized how educational I found it (though not sure if the story Bruce Dickinson told about Queen Victoria handling menstrual cramps by smoking pot is true or just an urban legend) which included just how much more informed and excited the song about Alexander the Great was compared to the school textbook (and I actually retained it in long term memory).

And as a kid I also looked up Samuel Taylor Coleridge because of them and it's possible that I first learned of Churchill through them. They also expanded my vocabulary, I remember looking up the word "shrieve" (as in "to shrive") from their tribute to Rime of the Ancient Mariner and I probably first heard the phrase "wreak your vengeance" from their Flash of the Blade so that I wasn't confused when Willow used that phrase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer years later.

Looking back on it I realize a lot that the adults wished I didn't listen to, read, or play was actually quite educational in its own way and at the very least improved my vocabulary. In any case, Bruce Dickinson was a much better history teacher than that coach teaching the history class I was in!

Good idea for a thread.

I love Johnny Marr; he's a guitarist that's been in various bands, most notably the Smiths.

His unique, euphoric and deeply emotional style of play makes me really happy. He has a great ear for riffs, I personally think he's a genius. He's also such a humble and cool guy, I could listen to him talk in interviews for hours without losing interest. I suspect he has a Moon-Jupiter conjunction and its responsible for him being such a happy scorpio.

Birth time is unknown, so I put it at 12.

In synastry his Sun-Mercury conjunction is on my North Node in my 3rd house. I find it quite eerie that I discovered him and the Smiths when Saturn was transiting on my NN in Scorpio. The front man of the band is known for his witty and brutally honest lyrics.

His Jupiter conjuncts my Sun, trine my mars and my Jupiter.

His mercury trines my Venus, and his Sun trines my Moon.

His Venus trines my Mercury/Saturn and conjuncts my Pluto. His Neptune trines my Moon and Saturn.

His Mars trine my Sun, My mars opposes his Saturn and squares his Sun.

His Pluto-Uranus opposes my Moon.

Edit: Forgot to add! One of my favourite albums is Hatful of Hollow, released in 1984. Post punk era, with a lot of bad pop music and when indie rock started to manifest.

I'm not a huge Carpenters fan by any stretch but...
I noticed that the Carpenters released an album the year I was born, and I remembered that I was often told that I looked like Karen Carpenter when I was younger.
I can definitely see the similar bone structure, and to some degree the eyes.

I looked at her chart, out of curiosity, and found that she was also a Pisces Sun (loosely conjunct mine), and her Leo Moon is/was conjunct my Leo Ascendant.

Again, not a favorite at all, but I always found her story very sad, and there are more conjunctions between our charts that I don't have time to list.

Her chart won't post for some reason.

1964? *sigh* Not a preferred year for my music tastes...

There were really only 2 bands to consider. Well, really only one. As much as I actually like The Supremes, they were a distant second to *the* band of 1964.

Some 150 years after the last attempt, England once again invaded the USA, this time with four "lively lads from Liverpool". They took the stadium by storm, and conquered the air via Ed Sullivan. Of course, you know I'm referring to none other than John, Paul, George, and Ringo, aka The Beatles.

I could say more, but I will leave it at this. I'm not a Lennon fan. Really. George might be an interesting chart to look up. But, of course, I'm going to have to give the nod here to fellow Gemini Sir Paul McCartney.

We share Sun in Gemini (~3 1/2° of conj), Moon in Leo (~2° conj),each with a water Asc, and Venus conjunct Jupiter DW (<2° both ways and with his Jupiter conjunct my NN as well) Oh, and Pluto conj my MC. Well...

Favorite early Beatles song... I Saw Her Standing There
Favorite late Beatles song... Let It Be, Get Back

Trivia meaningful to perhaps only me... My 3rd grade music teacher made us learn Band on the Run... She was a fan.

Edit: one final observation... See that NN in Virgo in his chart? That would have been conjunct Uranus in late 1964 / early 1965. Uranus was of course heading towards its conjunction with Pluto and was even in 64 less than 5° away. In fact, Pluto was conjunct his DC in 1964. All generational of course, but fuel to the fire that was the 60's

1989, Nine Inch Nails releases Pretty Hate Machine (and yeah he was a pretty angry guy back then as the title indicates).
I love that album and and Trent Reznor is one of my favourite artists.

Aspects (Me-Him)
Sun opp Moon
Sun sq Saturn
Moon/Pluto conj Neptune
Mercury conj Jupiter
Uranus conj Moon
Venus trine Neptune
Venus sextile Mars/Uranus/Pluto
Pluto sextile Pluto (exact)
His Nodes fall on my IC/MC axis

(OK OK...I confess I had an idol crush on him a few years ago :-P )

PixieJane, I'm a Maiden fan too. 'Number of the Beast' is on my mp3 player.

I was just talking to a friend last night (in his mid-60s) about how new rock music has caused such freak-outs that seem later to be so silly. He told me the song "Louie, Louie" (1955) caused such a stir when he was growing up because people couldn't understand the lyrics so they speculated wildly about what it meant.

I've been compiling a 1960s-70s playlist of stuff that is practically 'easy listening' by today's standards that includes stuff that even in the 80s was being called the "devil's music." Hilarious!

Ozzy was chased out of my small city in East TX in 1985 because of his antics and he was reviled as a demonic influence. (He's a member of the Church of England.) The biggest church there started a campaign to prevent him from coming. Makes you just shake your head.

In 1970 Black Sabbath released two albums, the eponymous release firs, then the great 'Paranoid.' I've long loved Ozzy and his Moon is in mid-Cap just like mine.

I heard about that...Tyler, Texas wasn't it? (The one with the Rose Festival, an event I visited in 1996, loved it!) What I heard is that there was a bomb threat and after the event was canceled (by the place that was renting out the concert place to Ozzy) a church put up on its sign something like, "Miracles still happen, the Ozzy concert was canceled."

In any case a relative of mine got in trouble in Palestine (Texas) as a teen when overhearing adults actually brag about that for replying with something like, "Why should Muslims have all the fun?"
