No, Venus and Mars rule those signs which is different. Venus and Mars would be the first thing that people would notice. They shine through your personality. The qualities of each of those planets as well as the sign they're in would be the most apparent in how you express yourself.

People walk into the door (your asc) into the lobby. (Your first house) The lighting in the lobby is cancer. Sitting in the room is Venus and Mars. This is what hits them when they first enter.
As they move along, other lighting (signs) and planets sit in other rooms.
