I love requests. Keep them coming

This article will talk about one of my favorite parts of Astrology and that is the Nodes. The Nodes show PURPOSE. Inherent in the concept of purpose is struggle. Attaining the goals of the North Node will involve going into the realm of that which is unfamiliar. Conversely, the South Node is that with which we are comfortable. Hence, when we study the Nodes, we see both that to which we aspire and that to which we have attained.

Each Nodal Axis has the South Node on one side and the North Node on the other. These are, always, in direct opposition. Hence, if one’s SN is 8 Gemini, ones NN will be 8 Sagittarius. In the same manner, the Houses will be opposite. If ones SN is in the 9th House, one’s NN will be in the 3rd House. Opposite signs have opposite purposes. Opposite houses have opposite purposes. Hence, one finds a mini biography of oneself in the Nodal Axis. Let’s give some examples.

SN in Aries in the 1st House, NN in Libra in the 7th House

The SN tells us the domains in which we have comfort and with which we are familiar. Think of your old bathrobe or ratty T shirt. These are your comfort clothes. They do not bind you as that tight dress. They do challenge you to walk in spike heels. They help you return to your most comfortable state. We all need that and that is why I love the SN. You will excel in the House and sign of the SN, if there are not other strong factors to the contrary.

Conversely, when we get to the NN, this is aspirational. This will be like driving a new car for the first time. The new one has bells and whistles you could have only imagined. When I went car shopping, I went into the BMW store. I sat behind the wheel of the car and felt I was in a cockpit. It was too aspirational for me. I like the old man’s car–the Crown Vic. This is the detective’s car, if you don’t know. It is like driving from the comfort of your sofa, perfect for a Cancer Moon. However, I digress, as usual. The point is that the Nodal Axis shows us both our comfort zone and our aspirational zone. This is a simplified explanation. I can do another article with the specific placements for you, if you would like.

Nodes confuse me slightly. I read SN is where we are coming from and NN is where we are going to or at least should be.

I thought the moon was meant to represent what makes us comfortable, afterall it is to do with emotions.

I have moon in gem in the 9th.
Neptune in the 3rd Opposite my moon.

My nn is in gem in the 8th and my sn is in sag in the 2nd. My Neptune conjuncts my sn.

My question is, if my moon closer to my nn (it doesnt conjunct) than my sn then how am I most comfortable at my sn?

Sorry if its a silly question but I want to understand it.

I am working on an article right now BUT there are always mitigating factors as you point out. That is why the whole chart has to be studied in detail to come up with conclusions. It takes me 3-5 days to do a natal chart so you can see the detail lol

When I read about my NN (in detail) it was such an eye opener. I could see my WHOLE chart inside that one placement.

To teach and learn, you have to SEPARATE parts. To do the whole chart, you have to HARMONIZE parts.

EXACTLY.

Thank you for writing about Nodes, Ami. People here usually talk about South Node in the context of past lives and I'm pretty skeptical about all that past lives stuff... So I'm glad to see the interpretation of SN from someone who doesn't believe in them as well

Yes, V. I like the SN. It is a very warm, comforting point. I love it in synastry, too. It makes the other person feel like a childhood best friend.

"Astrology for the Soul" by Jan Spiller.
She was amazing!

My attention is very scattered or I'd love to read them all. (The rest of the nodes in the book)
Maybe I will... or try. LOL

I don't believe in it, either.

Reincarnation, I mean.. so I've never put a lot

of stock in the SN/NN idea.

Nevermind the fact that I'm supposed to Capricorn

in the House o' Sag.

Interesting stuff, though.

Ami Anne...

...what can you say about natal aspects with the nodes? From what I understand the orbs should be tighter than between planets. Also what about synastry?

Great question, M. Yes, the orb should probably be narrower. I would say 4 degrees at the most and that may be on the ambient side.

I read it wrong. Natal aspects? The conj I would put at 4 tops. The other aspects could be 2-5 tops. That is an opinion, my Friend

My best friend's moon is conj my SN at 3 deg. It's interesting that I've always though of him as a mother hen. His Venus is conj my NN at 2 deg. My Mars is conj his SN at 4 deg.
