As a straight man I find her incredibly attractive but I think she is full of crap and a hyprocrite. She is a feminist and says all the politically correct things but doesn't back it up with actions and contradicts herself. For instance, she has stated that men and women shouldn't feel pressured to conform to gender stereotypes. She said men shouldn't feel pressured to be aggressive and women shouldn't feel pressured to be submissive. Sounds good doesn't it? Well she ended up contradicting herself big time when she told the media that she prefers American men because English men are too shy and passive. She said she finds American men much more assertive and bold. Oh? And guess what? She is also dating a meathead rugby player. How exactly is she fighting steretypes and gender norms when she is living them? IP: Logged |

Do you mean this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtqfWK0dkq0 Because if so I think it was the way it's often done that she didn't care for. The British (at least the obviously posh ones she mixes with) make a huge game of it while Americans she met (probably in places like West Hollywood) get straight to the point (OTOH, it sounded like she preferred how the British--again, the posh--dressed and took care of themselves rather than us frumpy Americans.) Hmmm...I'm suddenly wondering what drugs Emma Watson has done, especially when visiting places like WeHo...I have a hard time imagining her on drugs (even after seeing Perks of Being a Wallflower) but it's something I'd like to see! She elaborated on it more and said it was specifically the shyness she didn't like. She said it takes British men 2 months to ask a girl out. She said it was a culture shock when an American man asked her out right away at a party. I just find it hypocritical considering all the things she said about gender roles and stereotypes. She specifically said that men shouldn't be pressured to be aggressive/assertive but in this specific instance she is sending the message that men who aren't aggressive aren't attractive. How can she speak about gender roles and stereotypes when she is living them?

Emma is awesome! Doesn't she have some Taurus in her chart as well? I really see the Taurus in her. I really respect the fact she is getting involved in gender equality platforms and organizations. We need more actors and actresses to do this. IP: Logged |

AG - It's one thing to say - people in general should be themselves and not feel pressured to adhere to traditional gender roles. And it's another thing to talk about one's personal romantic preferences.e.g. just because X likes huge green ogres who look like Shrek... that does not mean X would expect everyone else to like huge green ogres who look like Shrek as well... or expect everyone else to start acting like huge green ogres... and paint themselves green. That's beside the point. When you are a public figure trying to make changes in society you have got to set the example or else you are just a BSer that lacks credibility. How can you speak out against cultural norms and stereotypes when you are living the norms and stereotypes? What if I was famous and preached about how women shouldn't feel pressured to be thin but then turned around and said I wouldn't date American girls because they are too fat? I'd look like a jack@ss wouldn't I?IP: Logged |
