Combust Mercury
Heavily afflicted Saturn might cause depression.

Well, I'll be around I'm interested in knowing more about this and Reading what others have to say...

12th House ruler in the 1st House, maybe?

Aquarius is on the cusp of my 12th House; I have Uranus in the 11th ...and Saturn in the 1st 😟

I don't know if these would always be true, but I think these placements can possibly indicate mental illness:
1.) Sun or Moon in hard aspect to Uranus if either are in the 6th or 12th houses.
2.) Saturn in the 12th in hard aspect to Moon, Neptune, Pluto or Mercury.
3.) Neptune in the 6th in hard aspect to Moon, Mercury or Jupiter.

Well, I have suffered from depression all my life. Even tried to end the joy ride of life a few times. Also diagnosed with OCD.

A big one that is very often over looked is an out-of-bound Mercury. I have this and it is both a blessing and a curse!

Here is a link to an article explaining out-of-bound planets if you're interested. http://aliceportman.com/what-is-out-of-bounds/

So, what do I think are the big ones in my own chart?

6th house Moon in Cap
Trine from that moon to my Sun/Merc/Pluto conjunction.
All of that trines Saturn to create a grand trine.

While the above isn't 'afflicted' per say, it links it all together and when I go down, it's like toppling dominoes.

It doesn't have to be a square or opposition to create noise in a person's life.

I strongly agree with other posters about the combust Mercury. I've seen that one wreak havoc multiple times.

Chiron in sixth or in virgo is an aspect favoring eating disorder, hypochondria and workaholics behavior.

I'd say Saturn in the 1st H and afflicted Mercury by Pluto etc. Chiron in 3rd H (mind/mental pain)?

I've been doing some exploration into this myself recently, and from various things I've read it seems that an afflicted moon is the main culprit, and more so if mercury is also afflicted.

Some notable people with Saturn in 1st House:
John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Carl Jung, Vladimir Lenin, Rafael Nadal, Sean Connery, Jeff Bridges, Princess Diana, Ellen DeGeneres, Donna Summer, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Warren Buffett, Rupert Murdoch

It doesn't seem like any of them have mental illnesses.

Really?!
Katy Perry, Rupert Murdoch, Warren Buffett...surely. Just because some people have more money than us, doesn't remove mental illness. I love Princess Di but she suffered from depression, anxiety and bulimia!! If that's not mental illness.....IDK.
