I asked myself the question; which planet most influences one's social skills (and just their style of interaction in general), and I've decided that it must be Venus.

The Sun without Venus would have no restraint or charm.

The Moon is our true emotional intelligence, but it's very intuitive and can be uncultured like a young child expressing their emotions in the best way they know how.

>Venus rules Libra and the 7th, which is all about partnerships.

Conclusion:

A strong Venus+Uranus would be the markings of a true socialite!

You know what I'm a Libra rising with a Venus in the 7th Venus house. I also have a Uranus square Venus at a tight orb. I'm not a social person that all ,its like I attract people, but also repell them also .. I don't care to socializes that much with people, especially on a superficial level and I'm a Gemini..

I am also a libra rising with aquarius moon and an angular venus and Uranus. I am not that social. I am nice and pleasant but I am not a social butterfly. I prefer to keep to myself.

It's not everything... look to the 11th house to see how you react when making friends.

I have aries there, and my mars is conjunction sun, square uranus, opposite moon.

I see myself as very social, but I suffer from social anxiety these years. But I've always been good at making "friends" and many people always approaches me. Somehow I must be someone you notice in a room, but when it comes down to it, I'm pretty afraid of making really close connection to "strangers" I've just met.

You also have to look at the full chart:P

Not Venus-Uranus.
In fact, Venus/Uranus people are usually socially "distant" (the hard aspects in particular) - they can easily give off a loner vibe, or someone who doesn't want others to get too close to them.

But Venus, yes. Absolutely.

I have a dignified Venus and I'm very socially pleasant and "competent" (I know when to say the right things, what to do and what not to do, etc).

I thought it was globally accepted that Venus rules social connections.

Not sure how the 11H fits into this, however.

We can't help but be our Sun. This is who we are.

But the Moon shows our level of comfort. The more comfortable we get, the more of our Sun sign we will let out.

So someone with the Moon in Cap/Sco and Sun sign in Gemini, may be mitigated in expressing their Sun sign.

For this person,it is only when the environment becomes less "threatening"(Scorpio Moon) or more "productive"(Capricorn moon) that the Sun will come out to play.

This feeling of being "threatened" or needing it to be more "productive" etc. will depend on the person's subjective definition of what that feeling is.

In the end however, they really want to express their Solar traits of Gemini. The Sun always wants to come out and play.

But Venus "beautifies" us.Well at-least it beautifies us in a manner/way that we think is socially acceptable and attractive.

Venus expresses the way in which we would like others to present themselves to us.And what our definition of "fun"/pleasure is.

So in the same example, if the individual has Moon in Scorpio/Sun in Gemini and Venus in Gemini. They may present themselves as witty, smart and very clever. The girl/guy with quick "one liners" etc.

They may be able to cleverly disguise the insecure and often "ill at ease" nature of their Scorpio Moon in the superficial settings. But not indefinitely.

You will notice how this individual will quickly disappear or excuse themselves out of conversations when the talk gets too "mundane".

The individual can only disguise their level of discomfort only so long(Moon). They don't want to be rude and will probably charm themselves out of the party etc.

In social situations, the Moon is important. The person needs to let down their guard down for the full expression of the Solar position to come out and play.

In the end , we want the individual to express themselves fully. With Solar energy, the energy is magnetic, attracting, inventive and happens in "real time"

You may see traces of it here and there. But if there is a high level of distrust (Scorpio moon) or downright pretense(Scorpio hates that). The person may just leave- taking their Sun sign energy with them.

Often people say "Did you notice Thembi at the party? Yeah she was smiling and being polite with everyone, but she was just not herself. I felt she didn't fully come out." etc.

This person may have been feeling very uncomfortable(Moon) and could not express her solar energy fully.

Mercury is also important...
I think people with the Mercury/Venus conjunction in an air sign are the most sociable.

I would think your speaking of social abilities as in refinement, social skills, elegance and being appropriate more than someone who needs to be always out n about surrounded by ppl...am I wrong?

I'm a libra AC, with my Venus chart ruler in 1st, 11 degrees off my AC and conjunct Pluto. Although I don't like, need or want to be out socializing a lot I do naturally have a very refined nature. Like I know manners and elegance without being taught or even thinking about it. I've had ppl ask how come I'm so dainty and elegant and honestly I don't know where I learned it.

I agree Venus is the planet to look to see someone's level of refinement or to find ppl who are naturally graceful, elegant and socially adept with natural manners.

Yes ~ you always say the right thing!

I'm emailing you tonight. Because you always say the right thing. So I want to talk to you!

I'm sociable because I'm accepting, what with Venus conjunct Neptune (and a larger Neptune profile that I get tired of listing.)

My manners are good, I'm deferential, I listen, and speak intelligently enough. But I say things that are highly Uranian (Aqua Mercury square Uranus) and some people don't like that...they may go home from a party after meeting me, and gossip that I was a little weird.

I'm strange in that I know how but if I don't have a real NEED to do it, I usually won't.
I can be a little cold and give extremely short responses. Basically I just want them to go away and I'm sure that it's clear. Sometimes I'm "too busy". LOL

What's kind of funny is I'd rather meet someone under the condition that we're offering some kind of help to each other, which I've done before. But some pointless, fake chit chat? Why? LOL. There's other things to do.
I have my days though and of course my close friends and family are always welcomed.

So ability, absolutely. Desire, not so much.

Virgo Venus 12
Square Neptune

(I'm not sold on Venus+Uranus)

I don't think that's true.
I am recluse and hate socializing. My Venus is Domicile which trines Uranus!

Define "social skills" please

I see social skills as all about perception and communication. That says Mercury to me. With Uranus if its with large numbers or groups. Venus is more about, hmmm... providing the atmosphere, beautifying, being receptive, perhaps the style of being graceful or gracious.

I also don't see the eleventh as the house of friendships so much as the house of groups or society at large. The house of "us vs them"-ism when 11 is at its worst.

But take this with a grain of salt since my Venus is Rx, my Mercury is highly aspected (Uranus too), and I have Pluto in the 11th.

IDK, My BFF Jill? as the old commercial says...

I can occasionally be a bit shy, but I am also very, very sociable (almost to a fault) and find it easy to adapt to almost any social grouping. I love hosting parties and meeting/mingling with new people.

I have Venus in Pisces in the 6th house. It aspects every planet in my chart except Saturn. Its only negative aspect is a square to my Moon.

------------------
Sun -> Aries
Moon -> Sagittarius
Ascendant -> Virgo
