Not a dumb question at all. And I think your question simply goes to what Pluto is about. I always tend to think transformation into what?.
Pluto emphasized this way in the birth chart (with a correct, accurate Asc) indicates someone needing to make some fundamental changes in how they draw upon their deep inner strength, and how they position themselves in the world. I can very much relate to this personally as my chart's 1st house contains Pluto 25 Virgo about eight degrees from my Asc 17 Virgo. In my 40s it is much clearer how this transformation into a more empowered person has taken place and that it is essential to my life story.
Until Pluto transits square that natal position, or at least to one's Moon/Sun/Asc, there's not much way to know this story needs to play out.
I think the best outcome from this Plutonian urge is one in which the person taps into their god-self, the seed of the eternal within themselves (like the acorn contains the oak tree). Then find ways to put this empowerment to work for others. Power is always shared sooner or later. Better not to delay.
The Power released from within us individually (kundalini) does return to its source -- through sentient beings and all creation. That is the creative force.
So a person may start out life having only a mundane self-concept (maybe a continuation of lifetimes of that), but extraordinary circumstances or challenges will push them towards a transcendent, unconventional self-concept in which they develop great tenacity, great strength, or even transformative things for/with others.
