Is my holiday doomed to go wrong then? Because right now I'm checking details of everything x10 mercury is in my 12th house right now.

I wouldn't worry unless Mercury is your 3,9 or 10th house ruler...my 2 cents

No. Just go over your plans, the details, and make sure you're not overlooking something relevant. There might be some unplanned things happen, but that doesn't have to make for a bad experience.

I moved from one state to another, traveling by train, during the Merc-Rx of Jan 2009.

I had this exact experience on my first major holiday to Europe. Mercury was retrograde in Gemini the ENTIRE time I was on my vacation...and it literally went direct the day after it ended! Go figure! All in all, I had a fantastic time. Here's a few little tricks Mercury Rx played on me: losing my map, GPS on phone would not work, got lost on the way to a restaurant reservation [we found it eventually anyway!], misread museum hours and got there when it was closed [we still had a great time elsewhere], almost missed my train [we thankfully made it just in time].

So, these little annoyances are certainly common with Mercury Rx. I wrote an article about Mercury Rx and how to deal with its influences herel: http://quantumstones.com/mercury-retrograde-may-2015-think-before-you-speak/ Here's an excerpt from the article:

"...Now is the time to work on your mental growth. For example, if you find you’re losing things left and right during this Retrograde cycle, Mercury is asking you to reevaluate your methods of organization and examine how grateful you are for your possessions. Travel plans are more prone to last-minute changes at the very beginning and end of a Retrograde phase, but planning well in advance and having travel documents organized will keep things running smoothly.

...Make sure to prepare. Don’t rush to the airport. Get to the bus stop an hour early. Traffic is unforgiving now...You can keep it together by creating an itinerary."

Let me know if this helps!
