Today I attended a "training session" for a job I had applied to back in August. I had to pay all the expenses for this training session abroad which does not guarantee a position as there is a conclusive test on Friday. Today was really heavy for me because although I was very interested in this position when I read the offer, the training session made me realize it wasn't up my alley. The job is about medical devices regulations and registration. I have a corporate legal background. I really enjoyed corporate law. It really gave me adrenaline and excitement. However, the medical devices regulation training I had today really bored me. I was agitated all day because I couldn't wait for it to finish. I'm not sure if I should go tomorrow and on Friday (I will most likely spend another 40-50 box on this and it's paid 800$ pm). This job would also require me to relocate abroad to start on Monday if I get it which is reasonably impossible. As Mercury is Retrograde, I'm confused as to whether I should follow through with this or call it quits. My thoughts are unclear. I'm staying in a rather abusive home right now and I'm really not in a position to stay there anymore. Thank you for your help! IP: Logged |

Question: what do YOU want to do?What's YOUR first thought? P.s. I signed my car paperwork during the retrograde and it's been fine. I think that's partly because I was planning for it waaaaaay before the retrograde came and went in June. So, it was alright and still is ok. As long as you've planned the things you sign for during Mercury retrograde, it's usually OK. It's those sudden things you make rash decisions on that usually come back to bite you in the ass. The thing is I applied back in August but the whole recruitment process started when Mercury went Rx. The process was incredibly fast to the point where I was given notice for this three day training period abroad on Friday night. I know that this field was something I initially had an interest in but when I went to the training, I realized that capital markets and corporate law is what I am aiming at long-term. This is what get my blood rushing. When I did the training for my former capital markets, I was so consumed by it that I never wanted the days to end. I tried to picture myself working for this potential company for a year and I'm not sure. This to me was quite bleh. I was checking my watch every 10 minutes. The thing is my parents are very abusive to me and since I'm staying at their place until I find a job, I need to be out as soon as I can for my safety. This is what pushes me to attend these pre-entry sessions. IP: Logged |

Well, I want to specialize in corporate law/capital markets and this opportunity is health-care/medical regulatory affairs related. The truth is I also can't wait forever for an opportunity in my chosen field since I haven't gotten a single interview. I need to be out of my parents house asap. IP: Logged |

If being out of your parents' house is your overriding priority, then that is your answer. Take the job, get money and get out. This is one of those situations where you have to decide on what matters most. You have to sacrifice/suck up something. It may have to be job fulfilment for the time being.

I am in the same situation sort of. I applied for some funding for my business and if I was to take it I would had to start this Monday but it didn't go through and I am really tired of all the crap I got for being dependent on some of my loved ones. I love business and my inlaws have medical background so I can tell you how boring that is. Apart from that I can totally relate feeling this opportunity like last straw for some reason. I am going to keep doing what I was doing without lot of money and then look out for another opportunity in October. IP: Logged |

I ended up stopping the recruitment process. Right after I posted my question yesterday, I saw a picture on FB which said: "Always trust your gut instinct". I believe it is true. My gut feeling told me not to attend the training stage to begin with. I didn't listen. My phone broke down last night right after I got home. I tried to repair it, nothing worked so I had no way to get an alarm. On top of this, the person who was supposed to drive me to the offices abroad cancelled late at night which also meant I wouldn't have been able to return home even if I had found a ride for the morning. As for trains, the first one is at 7.32am which is far too late and the mast one at 7pm which would have been impossible to get since the training finishes at 6.30. I realized that when things break down like this every single time you try something, it means the endeavour is a dead end. I had something like this happen to me two years ago, I managed to get a position at the company and I left a month later because it was plain horrible. IP: Logged |

Thank you ikja! I agree. I was the right decision to make. I couldn't picture myself working there for a year knowing that it is not my preferred field of law. Your post helped me look at the bigger picture. Everything happens for a reason and these hassles were meant to show me that I should trust my instinct and let it go instead of wasting my money on the wrong opportunity. Rushing is never a good idea. Of course, I want to move out of my parents' but I also know that financial investments such as relocation should be thought over very carefully. Thank you ikja! You're welcome dear XI'm sure I said that in my head, but realised I didn't quite get around to typing it. Use this time to continue planning for what you do want! Mercury Retrograde is great for that at least! IP: Logged |
