Hi All,

I have found this really interesting article about artistic aspects in the chart. You can read it here http://proastrologer.com/2012/10/26/artists-and-astrology/

I would love to hear what you think? Do you agree? What aspects would you add to this?

Out of all these aspects I have the following:
Pisces sun, Cancer Ascendant, Jupiter in 11th, Sun trine Ascendant,Mars in Taurus and Pluto trine Ascendant.

And yes I am an artist and my art is very important part of my life.

Hi I am an artist too; personally I have only one aspect on that list, at first glance, Venus sq Neptune, but I think the problem here is that the difference between the two groups (sample and control) doesn't look significant, not even visually. I tried to find a link for simplified statistics, but couldn't lol they are all very jargonic.

Anyway, to compare two such small groups without hypothesis (just counting the aspects in both of them) is a very complex statistical process. Basically, in the end, you would need to have a difference of at least + 50% to consider there is indeed a difference between the two groups (with large samples, for millions of individuals, smaller difference may be considered, but not in this case).
In other words, you need to have at least 25% non-artists having Venus sq Neptune compared to 75% Venus sq Neptune in artists to begin considering there is a difference between these two groups.
Taking an example from the list, if in a group of 100 non-artists 9 people (9%) have Aries Moon and in the group of 100 artists 11 people (11%) have Aries Moon, there is no significant difference between Aries Moons here, which means both groups (artists + non-artists) have an almost equal prevalence of Aries Moon, which means the researcher cannot establish if Aries Moon is a marker for artists, for it is equally present in both groups. If you look at most of the aspects listed in there and the difference between groups, the difference is not significant, based on this research.

Another example from the list: out of 100 non-artists, 7 have Moon in the 12th; out of 100 artists, 10 have Moon in the 12th. No difference between the groups. The prevalence is about the same.

Basically, you need to have something like: out of 100 non-artists, only 10 have Aries Moon; but out of 100 artists, 60 have Aries Moon, to consider there is a difference in Aries Moons between these two groups.

Hi fellow artists

Yes I agree with you both and I didn't think that this is completely accurate I just found it interesting and wanted to share with all of you plus I wanted to see if other people have these aspects and do art or not.

I tried to figure out myself what major aspects my favorite artists have and to be honest I couldn't find the connection lol

I think artistic talents can be expressed in various ways in a chart, and depending on the art field. For example, sculptors have strong Mars Saturn, and Saturn would be an important marker for sculpture. Rodin had a major T sq involving Saturn with Mars Venus and Uranus. Brancusi a Mars sextile Saturn, Michelangelo a water GT with Mars trine Saturn.

Generally, for artistic gifts, you need strong Sun, Leo, 5th house, 5th house ruler; Neptune Pisces, 12th house; Moon and Venus with some Neptune connection; and strong Pluto/Scorpio; for artists in general.

For becoming famous and grand in the arts, I would say Leo/5th house or Scorpio/Pluto markers will be there. Jupiter too, probably.

EDIT: of course, for public success and fame you also need things happening in 1st, 7th, 10th and 11th, and Aries, Libra, Capricorn (Saturn), Aqua (Uranus) (more than 2). And a Leo connection.

Then it all depends on the artistic field, for the actual talents involved. Apart from the mentioned sculpture, examples would be: Leo 5th house for performers; Mercury with outers for dance, also literature ( for example, I noticed a prevalence of Mercury/Uranus for non-poetic writers, but Mercury Neptune, Mars Neptune or Venus Neptune for poets); Venus with Mercury and outers for singing and so on.

To me art is a way to express myself. My pieces and the mediums/materials vary, depending on what I want to express and my moods.Which makes sense. I have aries moon in the 3rd, square uranus/neptune, trine jupiter. Self-expression is gratifying.

Sometimes when someone appreciates my pieces I feel like a part of me becomes "connected" with them somehow. Feel as though we sort of "become" one for a moment. Feel very close. And special. So I guess in a way, it's me reaching out and wanting to find connection.

Venus conj neptune/asc. taurus mars.

Sometimes I want to capture my dreams. Or should I say, they capture me and I can't help it. They spring into life through my hands. These pieces, I almost always hide them. 12th house placements and saturn galore.

Three very successful artists, famous during their lifetime

Gauguin, mentioned on the list, one of the greatest artists, acknowledged nowadays, like many others has never been a success during his lifetime, in fact, considered himself a failure.

The magnificent Van Gogh, considered by many, me included, the ultimate painter, who, like Gauguin, are among the highest quoted and appreciated painters today (with Gauguin being the highest price for a painting acquired as of date, 300 million dollars, and Van Gogh's Gachet's 150 million dollars), has never known success during his lifetime. (however, we can see his subsequent fame in his chart)

an extraordinary self-portrait

My 12H Saturn benefits from art therapy.

Yeah, it sure lightens up saturn. Provides that saturn doesn't stifle it.

I totally get what you mean about wanting to make it perfect. The only "solution" for me so far is total immersion. Let them take over. Let them draw themselves.

Doesn't happen often though. Some shreds of control remain, heh this happen quite a lot.

I'm not sure "egotistical" is the right word; usually there is a combination of the need to explore (oneself and the world) as compulsion a talent brings (the part associated with the imaginative, transcendent planets Neptune Pluto Uranus and the fantasy placements in the chart: 12th house, Pisces, Moon, 8th house etc.) combined with the impulse to share oneself, to be on a stage, to express ( this compulsion is brought by the expansive part associated with the presence of artistic gifts: Leo, 5th house, Aries, 1st House, Libra, 7th house, Uranus, 11th house; and Jupiter for fame and luck and being grand)

Pluto and Saturn would intensify the need to have power over matter, the Demiurge impulse, but also combined with the actual "stamina" to become a success, to make an actual impact. Jupiter shows the world is ready for that artist. While Uranus is, of course, the marker for originality and innovation.

In fact, IMO talents don't belong to the bearer, but to the world, and each planet contributes to bringing them out there; the bigger the talent and the innovation, the bigger the push coming from several influences. (talent, power and stamina to use it, potential for public impact and for success)

thanks LeeLoo2014! I totally agree with you on the matter of art.

I think art is the need for one to express himself and explore himself and the world through for example writing or painting, but apart from it being inherited from the family, I do think that being an artist can come from many other reasons such as difficult childhood, relationships, curiosity etc which possibly makes it harder to read in the chart.

What is interesting is that I am very creative and artistic, by my twin is not at all! He doesn't like art and has never been good at it.

However I find Salvador Dali's chart very interesting!! (He is one of my favorite artists.)

I will need to explore this topic further.

Yes, he has an exact chart ruler Moon conj MC in Aries. Moon is a popularity planet in general, and in the 10th, it actually stands for popularity and being in the public's eye, but here, as the chart ruler, exactly conj MC *and in Aries) and with 10th and 11th emphasis, and Sun stellium conj MC ruler in the 11th, his fame is pretty straightforward.

Talent can be seen in the Minor Triangle (and talent leading to fame with Jupiter apex in the 10th) and Wedge, surrealism in the Moon T/sq and 12th placements.

The aspects are fine but I don't think he pooled enough artists. Just pulling two artists out of the hat: Frida Kahlo for example only has one of these aspects and Edgar Degas only two and they did have careers are artists.

I myself do not create art as a part of my career but art has been a large part of my life and I only have 1 of these very specific aspects, i.e. the criteria is Sun trine Jupiter but I have a conjunction. For art I do believe you need a combination of water placements and/or planets in water houses, fire for the energy and passion for the drive to compete in such of a career so mars on a angle and some earth to add discipline to your craft. Things are also influence by transits and progressions as well.

I think you need a blend of quite a few placements/planets or signs to become a great artist.

Firstly, you need a vivid imagination; Obviously Pisces is the number one candidate for this, but it depends on your 'art'.
Imagination then combines with emotion give you the urge to paint something that touches you deep. (Moon)

But you then need some aspects which give you the ability to turn abstract into concrete.
Saturn can be your friend here. Mercury gives you the ability to paint. (Hands).

So:

3rd house, 12th house, and Neptune for imagination.
Saturn to actually start the process of expressing art.
Mercury gives you the physically ability to do the painting etc.
5th house + ruler, expression choice.
Uranus to seperate you from the rest, uniqueness.

Also, careerwise, check your 6th+10th house rulers and houses, to see if you could have a career in art.

You have said this for surrealism: surrealism in the Moon T/sq and 12th placements.

But I have no 12th house placements and my moon is not in Aries or in the 10th house, however I have always been a surrealist.

Maybe because my 12th house ruler is mercury and he is in the 8th house Aquarius?

wow! so many creative people on this forum! It would be interesting to see everyones art.
