Ironically, as I did them one at a time I ended up with all of the Fixed signs as the Black Sheep! LOL It just worked out that way!

Alternatively, you can also use modality and pick three, with one Black Sheep.

Water: Pisces
Reason: The more transcendent of the two which deal with external and internal matters - for Cancer, it's extroverted-feelings in relation to other people, with Scorpio, it's introverted feeling in relation to other people. There's a spirituality element to Pisces the other two don't quite possess

Earth: Taurus
Reason: Being Venusian, there's less emphasis on obsessive attention to detail that both Virgo and Capricorn are prone to embodying

Fire: Leo is the black sheep because of the way it follows through with everything. It's the most serious of the three fire signs, usually.

Earth: Virgo is the black sheep because its energy is neither obvious (Taurus) nor mysterious (Capricorn as I see it) but a mixture.

Air: Gemini is the black sheep because it doesn't have as much drive for interpersonal interaction as Libra and Aquarius.

Water: Hard to say since they tend to flow into each other, but I'll go with Cancer, because cardinal energy just stands out the most. Scorpio and Pisces are less obvious.

Cardinal: Libra is the black sheep because it's best at disguising how cardinal it is.

Fixed: Scorpio is the black sheep because it's also a water sign. As the only fixed water sign, it doesn't flow like water, it behaves more like ice (in form, not temperature.)

Fire Signs
Aries In my experience, they are less sensitive to the opinions of others and find it easier to set their emotions aside. Arians are also less inclined to consider the feelings of others when speaking an acting.

Water Signs
Pisces are less easily angered and a lot more expressive of their deep emotions where the other 2 are protective of theirs.

Earth Signs
Taurus are the hedonists of the group (although all 3 appreciate creature comforts) and I find they are also the least serious in demeanor although they all have an 'earthy' sense of humor.

Air Signs
Aquarius are the most sensitive of the air signs and also least likely to appreciate beauty for beauty's sake.

Earth: Virgo
The other two are more about material gain and experiencing the physical realm and physical security. Virgo is kind of an airy earth sign, being mutable and ruled by mercury. More theoretical, more mentally oriented. Virgo is concerned with others while cap and taurus is concerned with me and mine. I like to look at virgo as an earthy gemini. Maybe like a gemini grown up.

Fire: Leo
I think leo just behaves less "firey" than the other two. Less impulsive, more focused and directed energy. More grounded. But I dont have any fire in my chart and I know less firey people.

Water: Pisces
No doubt about this one. Pisces is not only the odd one out of water signs, but also the entire zodiac. Both cancer and scorpio hand onto emotions, they are both hard shelled and cling with their claws. Pisces just lets go and everything flows through and around them. They are also the least emotionally roused of the three. The other two are concerned with the immediate world we live in but pisces is not. Cancer and scorpio will be upset today because someone at work gave them bad attitude. Pisces is upset today because he was thinking about the homeless.

Water: Scorpio - I think because of its Mars-Pluto energy, just feels less like water and more like a simmering volcano to me.

Earth: Virgo, because of their scattered and worrisome energy. I know some Virgos who you’d think were Pisces, with their heads all up in the clouds, except they’re thinking about Earth things instead of Pisces things.. Mutable Earth is an odd one

Mine all came out as Fixed signs, too.

Fire
Leo - Leo feels like the least independent fire sign to me. Leo likes attention and the approval of others and even needs it to some degree, whereas Aries and Sag seem to have more of an "I can take it or leave it" attitude when it comes to the approval of others.

Earth
Taurus - Virgo and Cap feel like they are way more work focused and way more driven in general. If I need a job done and done right, then I'm gonna give it to a Virgo or Cap before a Taurus. Don't get me wrong, Taurus has many other great attributes that I love, but I think Virgo and Cap have that work ethic that stands out from Taurus.

Air
Aquarius - I think Aquarius is less into individual relating and communicating than Gem and Libra. The type of relating Aquarius loves feels less personal, so it stands apart from the other two in that way.

Water
Scorpio - Scorpio has that whole "still waters run deep" thing going on, so they seem to come across as less vulnerable than Cancer and Pisces. It's not that Scorpio doesn't have emotions, they are just not as on the surface as the other two, but it can make them "seem" less emotionally sensitive. Cancer and Pisces both wear their heart on their sleeve.

Leo stands out by definition It is ruled by the Sun, the star in our solar system, and all planets revolve around it. The purpose of Leo placements in one's chart is to make someone stand out and of course, also doing it responsibly. You want to be a king, you need to act like one.
I think all three fire signs have a great need for being the center of attention, btw.

Scorpio stands out because it combines the watery side with Pluto's fire. It's a tough influence in the chart, compared with Cancer and Pisces which bring sweet, mellow, water energy to it. Scorpio is an affirmation sign, traditionally. (but so is Cancer, as cardinal sign). By affirmation signs, I mean the markers of potential leadership in a chart.

Aqua stands out because this is what Aqua placements do they bring originality to a chart.

On the other hand, all signs stand out in my view, depending what you need them for. You need to identify the greatest therapist or caretaker? Look for Cancer in there. You need to identify the most eccentric? Look for something in Virgo. You need to know which one stands out as a Hulk? Look for something in Taurus. Or the greatest opera singer? There will be something in Taurus. A great sportsmen? Check some Aries and Sag. The Pope amongst the priests? look for some Sag. The greatest artist or mystic? There will be Pisces. A great political leader who has changed the world for better or worse? Check out the Cap, and Libra. Someone who sacrificed themselves for humanity? Check Libra too, and Pisces. The brightest men and women out there, inventors, writers, teachers? You will find something in Gemini. Etc.

FIRE: sag, because they seem to be diving a bit deeper than the rest. also i don't find them to be the slaves (for a lack of a better word) to their emotions as aries and leo.

WATER: cancer, because they don't let their emotions get the best of them, as pisces and scorpio do. also, least manipulative of the water signs and the most serious.

AIR: aquarius, because there's no people pleasing like with the rest of air signs. they are actually firm and have big ego, something i don't see in gemini and libra.

My experience is that Cancer are the ones that do let their emotions get the best of them. Much moreso than Pisces. Scorpio does, too but they are more covert about it
